  1. Review titled Amazing service

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by alisha taylor - Posted on 16 May 2023

Today (15/5/23) I went to spec to have a lumbar puncture. I received amazing service from and nurse and their student nurse. Both of them were extremely professional and explained the procedure very well. They made me feel at ease. The procedure went great. I was very worried when going in but came out very happy with the service provided. The two nurses I just want to say thank-you so much as they were amazing.

  3. Review titled Exceptional level of care and service!

Rated 5 stars out of 5

    by Amanda S - Posted on 10 August 2023

I needed to express my thanks to all at Bolton Accident and Emergency. I was admitted in May this year twice, one involved an ambulance sent from Wigan, a further episode a Dr was sent to my home address. As a fit and healthy 50 year old the need for emergency care was terrifying due to an acute asthma attack, now referred to asthma specialist team. The level of care and attention from every member of staff was exceptional. In these current times there is even more need to recognise al the incredible work our NHS staff do. When I refer to the staff these includes from ringing for advice, the reception team, nurses and doctors, along with X-ray, blood testing, asthma team and the staff who took extra attention to find gf toast for my breakfast. I do hope this can be feedback to the staff involved. Without that emergency care I might not be here to write this! Thank you and well done.

  4. Review titled Seamless service in Breast Clinic

    by earmarkmb79 - Posted on 24 May 2023

THE MAMMOGRAM. I received an appointment for my first Mammogram in my late forties. I joked with my friends that I'd heard it really hurt and because I had big boobs they would probably explode and I wasn't going to attend! During the laughing and various first time Mammogram stories, my friends said I must go. And so off I went. The Mammogram, was less than 5 minutes (at least that's how it felt to me). It wasn't at all painful, maybe slightly uncomfortable, I didn't feel embarrassed, the female staff member made me feel at ease and most importantly I was literally in and out. SUPER EFFICIENT. I was relieved it hadn't hurt and with that behind me I went on holiday with my friend, to celebrate our upcoming birthdays. I came home on a Monday, the following Saturday I came downstairs to find a letter from Bolton Breast Screening Clinic. I had been given an appointment for that Monday. It was a general letter so it did not have the reason for the appt but it did have a list of the type of things people got called in for and it also had a list of the type of things that would be done at that appointment. Repeat Mammogram, physical breast examination and ultrasound scan (like when you are pregnant) I also read biopsy, which I didn't much care for, I said to my Husband that surely that wouldn't be necessary? Then the googling commenced!!!! Make sure you only use NHS sites! THE BREAST CLINIC. Anyway Monday arrived and off we went. Firstly, they are all females, I know that's a worry to some. (Well at least, I didn't see any men). All the staff were very friendly and professional.. The service is so efficient, you won't have time to worry, there's barely any waiting at all. So first I saw a Breast Specialist Nurse, she told me that they had concern because I had an area that showed calcification. I had never even heard of this not even on Google! I had never felt any change or lump when examining my breasts! Apparently this is what can happens to our Breast tissue as it ages! And you can't feel it, it will only show up on a Mammogram. The concern is that sometimes it can be pre cancerous and that is why I needed further tests. After this I had a repeat Mammogram, physical exam of the Breast and then a female doctor/ radiographer explained that I would need to come back the following morning for a biopsy. I wasn't expecting that to be honest, she explained that I hadn't tested positive for cancer and all this showed at the moment was that I needed the biopsy to rule out pre cancerous changes. THE BIOPSY. My appointment was at 9:15 and by 11:00 I was back on my sofa. Again all female staff. I was brought back into the room I had had the Mammogram in. I was positioned in a chair that then was lowered into a bed, I was wheeled under the Mammogram so that my breast was again positioned on the plate of the machine, it was held in place again like having the Mammogram. They do put you at ease and make you as comfortable as possible with pillows. The breast is then numbed with a local anaesthetic, this stings very mildly and I consider myself to be very soft. They make an incision, which you do not feel, and then use a needle to take bits of the breast tissue, tiny bits. After this I had a 20minute wait for another but gentle Mammogram and I was off home. I was given an appointment for the following Monday and I was told that if the results were not yet available that they may call me on the morning of the appointment so that I didn'+t come in unnecessarily. I have to say the whole service was seamless, I would be proud to work as part of that Team. That brings me to today the Monday of my appointment. One of the Breast Specialist Nurses has just phoned me... I don't have pre cancer and I will receive an appointment for a Mammogram in 3years. Will I attend? Am I worried about it hurting? Am I hell! LADIES AND GENTS BE BREAST AWARE, check your breasts and always keep your Mammogram appointments.

  5. Review titled The service that I received was exemplary from start to finish

    by Attended110523 - Posted on 12 May 2023

Today I attended the Bolton Breast Service in the Sunflower Suite and the service that I received was exemplary from start to finish. All staff took the time to introduce themselves, check my details, seek consent and explain the findings of my investigations to me. Medical students attended and were well supervised. My appointment was completed in 80 minutes and that included a consultation before and after a mammogram and an ultrasound. The team and service are a credit to the hospital. Thank you all x

  7. Review titled Brilliant experience

Rated 4 stars out of 5

I cannot fault the day care unit and ent department at all over this last couple of weeks. I was referred by my gp and was seen with a week at the ent dept with a lovely consultant and was listed for surgery within 14 days. Having gone back today for a follow up and a few more test and some extra treatment plan to be started the empathy and support has been amazing and I feel I may be able to feel some benefits in the next few weeks. I cannot thank the staff and consultant enough for there brilliant care.

  8. Review titled Bolton Wheelchair Service

Rated 3 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 10 May 2023

A referral was made by my elderly fathers GP to the wheelchair service for an assessment of his needs. The referral was rejected by letter with no valid reason as to why. Turns out when I tried to speak to someone, they blamed the GP surgery for incorrectly filling out the form. Having seen the form, I can see it was completed correctly but some information was missing, I wonder why they couldn’t chase the GP surgery to get this corrected rather than reject the referral causing upset to both the patient and carer. Eventually I spoke to the team leader who agreed to come out and carry out an assessment, this was in line with the wheelchair service referral process as detailed on the website. The assessment was then cancelled 90 minutes before it was due to take place due to staff sickness, and no-one has bothered to make contact to re-book the appointment.

Visited in April due to supporting a young person in crisis. Both the doctor and triage nurse were both impeccably understanding regarding the young persons mental health needs. Both were very patient and kind which helped make the overall experience a little better. Thank you

  10. Review titled Emergency surgery

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Charlotte Slade - Posted on 19 April 2023

My Dad was taken to a&e by ambulance. Within six hours of being there, he had had surgery on a strangulated bladder caused by a hernia. The staff were quick, helpful and caring. He was dealth with initially in the ambulance by the paramedics, in a&e, by surgeons and the staff on f3 and f4. Everybody he came into contact with was incredible and worked so hard to ensure a positive outcome for him. We are so grateful for the staff at Royal Bolton Hospital and our wonderful nhs.
