  1. Review titled The team were really supportive

    by Outpatient1 - Posted on 24 August 2023

I have urethral bulking today due to stress incontinence. I had the procedure at the Treliske (Royal Cornwall Hospital Trust). First they give you a bit of a clean, insert a tube to give you injections to numb the area. These are uncomfortable, I wouldn’t say it hurt, I found injections at the dentist hurt more. Once this was done they put a camera into my bladder, I had the option to watch on a screen to see what they were seeing and they explained everything. They then started the injections - some were fine, slight scratch, some hurt more, but the team were really supportive and I didn’t require any other pain relief, it’s about 10 seconds and it wears off. Once it’s done they give you drinks as you to pee if you have a good pee they scan your bladder to ensure it was empty and then you're off home. It’s uncomfortable, a couple of injections hurt more than the other, but overall it was manageable. If you’re having this procedure the team will support you and you do have the option of additional pain relief if needed. Try not to worry, you're in control. Recovery is quick, a little sore after your put your feet up and rest.

  3. Review titled Carcenoma removed from my upper ear

by Billy Bongo - Posted on 05 September 2023

I was told several months ago that I had a carcenoma on my upper left ear and part of my ear which contained the carcenoma would have to be removed. This procedure was carried out in early September 2023. Apart from the anaesthetic the procedure was almost painfree but a little uncomfortable listening to my ear (gristle) being cut away as I had it done under local anaesthetic. The care team I had were fantastic and friendly. I was put at ease immediately and everything about the procedure was explained in detail.

After hip replacement surgery I was discharged from hospital. A few days later began to feel poorly eventually having thumping in my chest. Paramedics visited and I was taken to hospital where I was eventually found to have dehydration. I was given a drip and eventually felt better. Everyone was excellent at the hospital and especially the paramedics. The service was excellent and I was very impressed ythe service

  5. Review titled Exemplary cancer care

by BBLouis - Posted on 31 August 2023

I was admitted late in the evening with suspected sepsis. I am currently having chemo for cancer at Treliske hospital in Cornwall. I was admitted to Löwen ward in isolation due to the risk of infection. The care that I have received throughout this journey has been exemplary. All of the people involved from top to bottom have been the most caring and supportive and deserve to be proud of the work they do. Thankyou for everything that you have done for me.

  6. Review titled Disabled without this service.

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Tony King - Posted on 08 August 2023

I have been in need of hearing aids for many years and have nothing but admiration for the service provided by the Audiology Unit. Something of a Cinderella Service insofar as the general public profile is concerned as hearing loss is a hidden disability. I needed help when my hearing aids developed a fault and although the department has a long waiting list for assessments I was given an appointment and seen within a few days. Although my firast visit failed to remedy the fault I was then given another appointment, again within a few days and my hearing problems were resolved. Only those who have hearing loss will understand the isolating and depressing nature of not being able to communicate with friends and partners. I sincerely hope that this department will continue to provide a service to those with complex needs and continue to be staffed by professional practitioners. It really makes a huge difference to those in need to have such a service in an age when mediocrity and cost have become so prevalent.

Thank you for taking the time to provide your feedback on our Audiology service. As a person who has hearing issues I can appreciate how isolated it can be when there is a problem which means you cannot hear as well as you should. It was lovely to read the Audiology department took care of you and were proactive when trying to find the problem and solution to enable your hearing aids to work again.

  7. Review titled The service was efficient, courteous and friendly

    by caelumpm64 - Posted on 08 August 2023

My wife collapsed late in the evening. She had a serious stroke five years ago and another recently, so the local surgery in Boscastle advised I ring 999. From then on the response was very quick, first responders based at Tintagel within minutes and ambulance shortly afterwards. The responders and ambulance crew were very helpful, reassuring and carried out essential tests immediately, also managed to carry my wife down narrow stairs and tight corners to ambulance without mishap. Followed her to Treliske by car, finding her already scanned, tested and in a cubicle when I arrived. It was a lengthy wait for a doctor to discuss diagnosis and treatment, but understandably hospital staff were very busy at this time of year. I advise packing sandwiches and a good book. Overall the service was efficient, courteous and friendly in difficult circumstances and it was a relief to discover she was not badly affected and there are followup options conveyed to our doctor. Learning it was my birthday, I was offered biscuits with my cup of tea, but the care she received was the best present. Thank you all.

  8. Review titled Perfectly delivered message - firm and friendly

    by GR234 - Posted on 12 September 2023

I fainted late in the evening while on holiday. Although I faint about once every 5 years on average, my family had not experienced this before and were quite distressed by my loss of consciousness so called Emergency Services on 999. They sent out an ambulance with paramedics who ran an ECG and other tests after which I experienced severe vomiting so the paramedics recommended that I be taken to the Royal Cornwall Hospital Treliske in the Ambulance for blood tests for indications of whether I had a heart attack. After blood tests at the hospital and further ECGs the Doctor said all were good but gave me a stern talking to in front of my adult son of the need to get to the bottom of why I faint. My son was reassured by the fact that he could hear the doctor discussing his proposed approach with a more senior colleague. The lecture I received from the doctor was perfectly delivered as a message from a young expert to someone who considers himself very fit for his age- firm but friendly. As a result I have followed up and will now have a pacemaker fitted.
