Review titled Thorough investigation
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Ruth Williams - Posted on 20 March 2024
I attended the ED today with my mother as she had been triaged at a community hospital with possible heart attack symptoms. She was seen very quickly for an ecg, blood pressure and bloods by the HCA who was amazing and asked for her consent every step. The nurse she was moved on to then took her blood pressure again and explained the next stage was an xray. Within 10 mins she was seen for the xray and then about 45 min later a doctor thoroughly reviewed her and explained her thoughts and predictions in a really kind way. She put my mum at ease. Once the blood results came back we were reassured it wasn't her heart but gall bladder and were advised on next steps. From reception to the dr we were treated so kindly and respectfully. Cannot thank you enough.

Shocked at how I was chucked out post op with no regard to if I could stand up. Collapsed at hospital door but grateful for off duty staff who helped me. Also read there’s a policy for unpaid carers. It doesn’t exist. Staff paid no attention to me as unpaid carer

My friend had a stroke and was taken into Phoenix ward. All the staff were professional and worked well as a team. I was very impressed with the calm and attentive care. I would recommend this ward.

Review titled Colonoscopy experience
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by River Tees - Posted on 13 February 2024
After a positive bowel cancer test, I was booked for a colonoscopy at Treliske Hospital. This sent my Anxiety levels very high and required extra medication just to get there. Once booked in I was still very anxious as I waited for my Colonoscopy, although the preparation nurse was very comforting. When I went into the room and was asked to lay on the trolley my anxieties started to fade. From that time, I felt little or no anxiety as I was with an extremely accomplished team. A team that had a lot of empathy and kept me informed throughout. It is a long time since I have felt that secure and confident so was able to relax more and let them do their job. I can only give my thanks, which seems so little to me, to the team that helped that day.

Review titled Excellent practice

I was referred to the Eye Unit by Boots Opticians, Falmouth, who had identified what they thought was either a shard of glass or plastic sitting on the white conjunctiva of my right eye within a millimetre of the cornea. By 2pm on the same day I had an appointment at the Truro Hospital Eye Unit where I was seen within minutes by a triage nurse followed by an ophthalmic consultant/ surgeon who successfully extracted what was a tiny shard of plastic. Every single member of staff I encountered at the hospital was exceptionally kind, helpful and professional. I simply cannot fault the service and care which I received.

Review titled “Frequent flyers”
by Anonymous - Posted on 27 March 2024
I attended the Emergency department and they class me as a “ frequent flyer” I have a number of chronic health conditions, including epilepsy, asthma and more. This term is unfair, those with chronic illnesses do not choose to be unwell, I feel we are “judged” by doctors, nurses and consultants. Most of us have a hospital passport for this reason, so we can be treated appropriately however we often get dismissed, I have heard nurses and doctors discussing another paitent, who is a “frequent flyer” and it was awful to hear the way they spoke about this individual. I respect and appreciate the care and time, but this does not change that paitent confidentiality was broken, and a lot of paitents heard this aswell. As someone who lives with a chronic illness I often have to attend RCHT, through no fault of my own. I really wish staff were educated on those living with chronic illnesses and also mental illness, and would understand this is out of our control, the minority of people that abuse the NHS should not mean that we are all seen in this way. Please understand chronic illnesses, and ill mental health is horrible to live with, and we shouldn’t fear coming to the hospital due to being “judged”. We are like any other paitent and we already have enough to deal with without being treated unfairly. Some nurses/doctors are very understanding but this is a minority, and it needs to become the majority.
