Review titled Discharge Unit
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 19 January 2025
Our experience in this unit were of a hell on earth, I never expected in a UK hospital. I was able to walk away(albeit without the medication I needed at home) but on the day I was there there were many vulnerable and elderly patients who could not do this. Patients were ignored when they called for help and when we intervened and asked for help we were told that because of staffing nothing could be done. An elderly lady who needed tge toilet was put on an open commode for want of a wheelchair, but the nurse then busied herself doing other jobs. We asked a doctor for assistance for this lady and were verbally abused by the same nurse about the state of the nhs and if we could fix it then go ahead etc. She then returned to the old lady who commented that she felt like she was going to explode and probably did as the staff member came back to retrieve clean up items soon after. Ambulance staff came to collect a patient in a side room to tranafer elsewhere and because she was soaked through and needed cleaning up before moving and another lady in a side room was asking for the toilet and being told to go to sleep. We waited 3 1/2hours for meds in a conventional chair which didn't help the pain of my knee replacement. Everyone was asked the most personal details within the hearing of others in very brusque manner and had their obs done by a nurse who almost kicked my operated leg several times whilst moving around. I left without medication as I found the way people were being treated so upsetting. This unit may have seemed like a good idea, but on asking around my experience wasn't dissimilar to that of others. I had had wonderful care and treatment on ward 207 and the contrast to the discharge unit could not have been greater. It was like stepping into the dark ages. There was absolute no dignity for patients here and it was heartbreaking. Surely if there aren't the staff for this unit to operate to the high standards I believe most staff would aspire to, it should be closed. I completely understand that staff were struggling to maintain a reasonable and dignified standard of care. At the very least if they are so short staffed they should be able to refuse any more discharges in a day and wards would then have to manage their own discharge patients until matters improve. This should be not be allowed to continue. Staff should not be expected to work under such conditions and I'm sure letting standards of care drop so low, must impact on their own health as well, as they didn't enter this profession to provide poor care to vulnerable patients.

Review titled Exceptional care
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Gayle Marsden - Posted on 09 January 2025
We had a visit to the Royal Derby hospital on the 15/12/2024. My 17 year old daughter was rushed there by ambulance after seizures, cardiac arrest and a stroke. I can honestly say that if it hadn't been for the speed and care of the ambulance crew, the care she received in A n E, the stroke ward and ICU, things may have turned out very differently. I want, to sincerely thank all 3 of the above departments and each and every single member of staff, who were involved in the care of our daughter, you were absolutely amazing and a true credit to this hospital. We do not live locally, we are based in West Yorkshire and was on a Christmas trip when this happened, so I want to add another massive thankyou to everyone for the help and support that you also gave me, over the 9 days that I was in Derby whilst you cared for my daughter. You guys are exceptional, I can't thank you enough.

Review titled Great Hospital
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Adrian Sandy - Posted on 13 October 2024
A and E was very slow with long wait for a bed. Eventually to a transit ward at about 10pm then moved to medical assessment ward at about 11pm. later moved to respiratory ward. The service given on this ward by nurses, consultants was excellent with lots of care and help. Discharge was a shambles, time wasting and stressful. Was taken to discharge suite about 4pm last Monday. was waiting for a discharge letter and prescription which i got 9.20pm. one other similar age couple was in the same situation as us. Why does it take so long to issue 20 pills and a letter, also at 5.45 a lady from Pharmacy came and asked about my home medication so things must have been going ok but still a long wait.

Review titled pregnancy assessment unit lack of care
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Emma - Posted on 22 September 2024
Told to go in to pau, get there and wait over an hour to even been seen by a midwife for monitoring, one doctor on call that seems to be in surgery and seeing patients on pau, pregnant ladies over due date walking out after waiting 10+ hours and still not been seen, my daughter also has been in there 9 hours and not seen a doctor, this is seriously concerning and worrying on whether the care will be there when she has her baby. This is not acceptable and I’ve never known anything like this especially with pregnant ladies with possible complications.

Review titled Oncology uncontactable
Rated 3 stars out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 13 September 2024
Have been told that oncology have two items for me. One is chemotherapy. I think the items might be internet links but not sure. Been trying all morning to get through to them by phone. When the usual extension was not answered, switchboard operator tried many othe extensions. No-one could help. Latest suggestion is try again on Monday. Unbeleivable that a service as vital as this can't be contacted.

Review titled Very efficient
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Mrs Dj Miles - Posted on 06 August 2024
Called into the Elective Hub today for plastic surgery at the last minute due to a cancellation. The senior sister was great at putting me at easy and the lady in theatre kept me calm as I was awake. Great Service in and out in 4 hours. Thanks to all involved. Told on discharge when follow up would be and when to go for stitches out. Given medication in Recovery no waiting at pharmacy, such a bonus when not feeling 100%. Thanks to all involved

Review titled Easiest blood tests I've had in my life!
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 22 August 2024
Hi, there wasn't a specific thing to click on for the blood room so I'm leaving a review here. I went today, 22/08/2024 to get alot of bloods done, I was dreading it as I usually end up like a pin cushion with bruises due to my rubbish veins, ( not the staffs fault). I'd like to thank the nurse who did my bloods, I was in and out so quickly, virtually pain free and also had a laugh because she was also laughing about her stool being too high. Also I'd like to thank the volunteers there that drove the hospital buggy, and the helpful volunteer on the blood room door. I hope this helps others to be less nervous about having blood tests. Thank you! (-:
