Review titled First class treatment
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 08 February 2024
I contacted 111 on Sunday morning. I had internal bleeding and was extremely weak. The entire treatment I received from everyone was exceptional from the paramedics who took me to A&E, the staff in A&E the treatments I received including endoscopy to find the cause scans, a blood transfusion and an ultrasound scan. I was monitored day and night and moved by porters who appeared to take me to the next department. By Tuesday morning I knew what the problem was, that it was under control and that I should be released on Wednesday following an additional night of checks. A pharmacist came to sort out my leaving medication and I was discharged Wednesday afternoon. I lost count of the number of highly qualified people who looked after me and in most cases I only saw them for a short period of time and do not know their individual names. This is why I want to write this review to thank each and everyone of them. Not only were they professional they were kind. It was an amazing logistical operation. I do not have to go back other than for an outpatients appointment in a few weeks. They were absolutely fantastic and I am extremely grateful.

My son was very poorly and the service he received from the ambulance service to A&E until we left was really good and we couldn't thank the staff enough. They were all very friendly and helpful. Many thanks from the English family.

Review titled A special place filled with special people.
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by David James - Posted on 07 February 2024
I would just love to thank everyone involved in my passage through my first stay in hospital. I took an interest in how it all works and learned loads.12 hours in A and E on Saturday seemed excessive but I have no complaints because when I eventually met the Doctor, I had all of his attention and felt like I was important which put my mind at rest and speeded the whole journey through following his treatment. A&E staff were fantastic and do a great job often in very difficult circumstances and even more difficult people. It was decided that I spend a few nights in with them so I went from CT scan to SAU who again explained everything a out my condition and its treatment. From there I went to Ward 307 and the staff were fantastic, really looked after me and couldn't do enough for me on dayshift and on nightshirt, just lovely caring people. Back home today Wednesday for a couple of months then back in for a little op. In closing, Thank you for my journey starting with the Ambulance people right up to the lady who gave me my last coffee in the Depart area from me and my family x

Review titled Can't access hospital. Parking impossible.
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Andy - Posted on 05 March 2024
Ironically I opted to get referred to Derby as my nearest hospital (Sheffield Hallamshire) have made it impossible for disabled patients to park. I have had to miss two appointments now at Sheffield due to this and decided never to go there again. I made the 35 mile trip from near Sheffield to Derby for a urology appointment I had waited a year for and I arrived well early at 9.45am, a good hour and a half before my appointment. When I arrived I discovered that all cars are funnelled around a tiny roundabout near the entrance off the main road, causing traffic. Then I made my way to the first car park and there were cars queueing and waiting for a car to exit so that one car at a time could enter through barriered gate. I drove to the next car park. Exactly the same. Queue of cars a mile long all stood waiting. I was driving around the loop of the hospital and needed a disabled blue badge space ideally so the further away the worse it was for me. Every single car park around the loop of the hospital grounds was full and had a tailback of cars queueing and this was at 9.45am! Eventually I just gave up and could not have the appointment I had waited a year for. I rang the phone number on my appointment letter to let them know I could not attend and nobody picked up so I gave up. I am autistic and the journey was stressful enough but to be met with this shambles of a car park circus upon arriving was really difficult to self-manage emotionally in terms of anger and anxiety. The hospital is inaccessible to disabled patients who arrive by car and I won't ever be asking to be referred here again as it is pointless because there is nowhere to park. Whoever is responsible for parking and estates needs to have their competence scrutinized. Complete waste of N H S resources and a waste of patients time if they can't even access the hospital in the first place! Absurd place. Stay well away.

Review titled Great Hospital Team
Rated 5 stars out of 5

I had bariatric surgery 2 years ago now, and have just had my review and have been discharged. The staff are fantastic, they listen to your needs and explain everything to you in terms you understand. They showed kindness and curtsey throughout my stay and all follow-up appointments (the video link appointments are very easy to navigate). You can call with any questions and you will be listened to and be reassured. I would recommend this hospital and the staff I worked with.

Review titled Disastrous experience. Choose somewhere else!

Waited a year for a urology appointment. Never been to Derby hospital before so did not know what to expect and I drove the 40 miles from near Sheffield for an 11.15am appointment. I arrived at the hospital entrance in my car at 9.45am, so a good hour and a half prior to my appointment and the entire site was like the M 25 at rush hour. All car parks full with long queues of cars at the barriers waiting for one to leave so that they could get in. Disabled parking a joke. No spaces. Surrounding area with parking restrictions. I drove round and round and in the end just gave up and went home without being seen. My whole experience from start to finish with Derby hospital is akin to something out of a comedy scene from a sketch show. The litany of 'you couldn't make it up' examples from referral, to communication, to admin, to parking etc is absolutely crackers. I would not choose this hospital ever again as it is inaccessible and inept.

We been coming here for 9 days it kept getting worse and worse and they didn’t want to admit him the staff wasn’t even helpful. Just for them to admit him on the 8th date. first they we came here they said stomach infection. Gave him shashays of a drink and he was vomiting after them. This is an absolute disgrace for them to come back 9 flipping days later saying that it’s hsp and that his kidneys are affected. This is absolute disgrace. Every doctor of urs kept diagnosing him with other stuff. Like are you crazy . Make it make sense

Review titled Efficient caring team

I have had several treatments within the gynaecology department in the last two years. These have included urgent care and planned procedures and continuing assessment. I have been treated by several doctors, nurses and team members. On each occassion, the staff have been friendly, patient, caring, reassuring and understanding. Everything which I was advised would be required was carried out in the time frame given. All results and follow ups were prompt and informative. The administration team have also been helpful when clarifying appointments and answering queries. I have great confidence in this department and the team.

Review titled Really impressed
Rated 5 stars out of 5

We were sent to A&E due to my dad failing and being on blood thinners. Apart from the triage nurse (who was testing everyone over the high counter and appeared quite rude) the rest of the staff were amazing. They were caring and considerate, and ver patient with my dad, who has Parkinson's too. I was impressed by them asking about his medication rimes and the treatment we were given. Everyone from the Consultant to the Porter and Cleaner were really friendly. 5 star service. Thank you!

Review titled Failing autistic patients and not meeting needs
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 05 February 2024
Was referred to urology about a year ago by my GP. After multiple attempts soon after with the PALS team asking them to meet my needs as an autistic patient in terms of communication and information to no avail, I eventually just gave up. Appointment letter arrived in the post the other day about 1 year on! Disgusting wait for health care. In that appointment letter, it asked me to book some blood tests for the 31st of January. I received the letter (dated 26 Jan) on 3 February! They allowed 5 days for the letter to be delivered and for me to book a slot for a blood test. Insanity. Not only that but I was unable to attend the appointment I had been waiting a year for because it was dated a week from when I received the letter and this was not enough time for me to prepare for this being autistic and arrange for transport etc so I have had to try and re-arrange, which is proving impossible. I have emailed the PALS team multiple times informing them that I struggle with telephone calls due to sensory and communication issues and asked them for their help via email in having this appointment that I have waited a year for re-arranged. No response. What now will happen is that I won't be able to attend the appointment and have told them I want to re-arranged and can't and then the hospital will reply on here asking me to contact the PALS team (with a phone number I can't use) in order to have my concerns addressed! This hospital are a prime example of a service who bang on about diversity and inclusion but don't actually provide for any of either or meet the needs of disabled patients. Communication is dire. Information provision is dire. Common sense absent. Managed incompetently.
