Review titled Long waits at pharmacy
by Frustratedbyineficiency - Posted on 18 May 2023
Yet another nearly 4-hour wait at this hospital pharmacy! 2 hours waiting in line whilst my wife sits in her wheelchair in the busy main hospital corridor opposite! This has happened 4 times so far since my wife was diagnosed with lung cancer in November and today yet another wait.....yet more excuses. At a meeting with my wife's oncologist yesterday we were given a note to collect a prescription......I begged the oncologist to make it open so that we could obtain the medications from our local chemist, but apparently Pride Pharmacy is the only one the hospital can use. The waiting times continue! Coronavirus is still with us! Many people ignore the Mask signs! People cue for medicines in this unhealthy environment.......and it is call a hospital!

Review titled 5 Star Rating
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Sally - Posted on 27 April 2024
I was taken to the a&e royal derby hospital majors a department by a very lovely, friendly, competent female ambulance crew. Not being familiar with the derbyshire area. I was very reassured by the kindness, care and treatment I received. From the ambulance crew, nursing staff, doctors and consultants at this hospital. After working as a registered nurse in a variety of setting and posts for the NHS for 40 years I was very impressed with how well the staff worked together to obtain a good outcome for their patients. especially in a challenging environment like a&e. it was apparent that the staff I met were happy working at the hospital. They showed compassion and an interest in their patients and fellow colleagues. From moving to c area and mau this was evident in all these areas. there appeared to be strong leadership within these departments. with staff all delivering the same good care and values.

Review titled Fantastic Care
Rated 5 stars out of 5

Attended a&e on 13.04 at 11.30am. Greeted by and lovely receptionist. This caring, professional and friendly service continued throughout my stay. I really do need to mention you all. The receptionist, triage nurse, phlebotomist, doctors, Ct scan staff, porters and senior registrar was the best!!. I’ve had a bladder condition for over 4 years and became extremely unwell prior to attending a&e. Everything was investigated, I was involved in the decisions made and kept updated with everything. The problem was found and corrected and I went from being so ill to be able to climb Mount Everest (not literally but the thought was there). Please may I ask that my thanks and congratulations are passed to all involved in my care. If I’m ever that ill again I hope you’re on duty. Bless your beautiful hearts

Review titled A very positive experience
by microscopiumqs67 - Posted on 23 March 2023
I had a Colonoscopy at The Royal Derby Hospital. The nurse who rang me to explain the procedure and to talk through the bowel prep was amazing. I was incredibly anxious and she calmed me down, reassured me and went through everything carefully and slowly step by step. As the Colonoscopy had been arranged quickly, I had to pick my bowel prep up from the unit. The staff were brilliant at getting it ready for me and apologised it wasn't ready (I had turned up unannounced in the hope it was ready). On the day itself, my anxiety levels were at their worst. Right from the moment I walked into the unit the staff were amazing. I felt looked after from start to finish. The nurse who booked me in was so kind and gentle with me. The consultant who performed the colonoscopy could see how anxious I was. He was so lovely and calming. I felt calm throughout the procedure. I had a nurse next to me the whole time who let me have gas and air if I needed it and even gave me a hug! My aftercare was brilliant in recovery. All the staff were really kind and chatty. On discharge the nurse went through all the findings. She was brilliant, very informative and went through what to expect and answered all my questions. I am returning in a few months for treatment and can honestly say it was a very positive experience. Obviously it is not something you want to do, but the staff really do care and I feel as though I have taken positive action towards my bowel health. Thank you, Royal Derby Colonoscopy unit.

Review titled I have received excellent care
by Lauran90 - Posted on 10 March 2023
I cannot fault the level care and compassion the staff on this ward arr providing. I have received excellent care from all staff and students who are clearly overworked but who are tirelessly working to ensure everyone is safe and comfortable. An absolute credit to the NHS and I cannot thank them all enough.

Review titled Very poor service
Rated 1 star out of 5

My GP referred me in October, I have not been contacted with an appointment. I have been extremely patient. I have tried multiple times to call the appointment telephone number recommended on the e-referral service-no one answers the phone. I have called the department, but they cannot make appointments. I am planning to physically turn up at the hospital to find the department and book an appointment this way.I will also be making a formal complaint. This is not acceptable. This situation is causing additional health issues and anxiety which is completely counterproductive.

Review titled Uncomfortable
Rated 3 stars out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 18 March 2023
As a visitor to ward 313 I was made to feel uncomfortable. As someone who struggles with anxiety it isn’t the most comfortable place to be. Already feeling anxious I arrived at visiting time 1pm, the door was locked, unsure what to do, as there appeared to be many signs on the door but nothing about how to enter the ward. A lady who was walking by told me to press a buzzer, which was almost invisible as it is white on a white wall and no notification what it was for, many buzzes later, (10 minutes) feeling a nuisance, some one eventually answered. Already feeling anxious, I asked where my friend was in the ward and was greeted with the most unfriendly nurse who vaguely gestured to a room, later I asked the same nurse where I could get some fresh water for my friend as she requested me to get some, so she could take her medication,I just wanted to do something for her that would help her, but this same nurse again was not interested and made it clear I was a nuisance. I understand that everyone is busy but let us not forget that people visiting are nervous, worried, anxious and wanting to help our loved ones feel comfortable. That said, the nurses on the ward were wonderful, dispensing medicine and taking blood pressure. First impressions count and visitors maybe an annoyance but best not to actually show it!
