Review titled Unnecessary rudeness
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 07 December 2023
I attended the out patient’s on a weekly basis over a period of several months with my son who is 12 as he had broken his leg and was in a full cast etc. There was a particular member of staff on the reception who was beyond rude and on one occasion almost shouted at us because we asked if it was possible to change an appointment… The 2 health care assistants were also very rude, not approachable and had serious attitude.. no eye contact, dismissive .. we dreaded going to this clinic in the end! What an awful experience!

Dear Service User Thank you for taking the time to leave feedback. I am sorry to hear about your experience following your son breaking his leg, this is not what we would wish for. Because of the anonymous nature of the feedback I am unable to look into your experience in more detail, however your feedback has been forwarded to the Clinical Matron for Safety and Patient Experience to share with the department. Thank you again for sharing your feedback and I do hope that your son is recovering well. Kind regards Lisa

Review titled Great Hospital
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Clair - Posted on 28 August 2023
I wanted to leave a review of Exeter Hospital, as I feel that they deserve acknowledgement for the standard of service I received. I was completely blown away by the professional and reassuring staff at the hospital.. who not only put my mind at rest but changed my view of hospitals. After debating for the last six months whether I wanted to go through with surgery and worrying about the level of care that I would receive, all my worries were put to rest from the moment I had my case transferred to Exeter. From the first phone call to arrange an appointment, I was given an email with a link to an app called “my care” which kept me up-to-date, with letters, assessments and records throughout my stay. On the day of surgery, I was very nervous due to a past bad experience with anaesthesia at Torbay and I can say, without shadow of a doubt, my concerns were heard. I was taken care of and sailed through being put under for the operation and came out the other side, not even realising it was all over. The after-care was 2nd to none, nothing was too much trouble from the ladies that clean the rooms to the catering staff and the nurses were fantastic. Just what I hospital should be like. Well done to the team at Exeter and thank you

Review titled Dismissive
Rated 1 star out of 5

I recently attended the breast clinic as a two week referral, following the discovery of a lump. Following a brief examination by a man who I assumed to be the Consultant, I was sent for an ultrasound. The Consultant who performed the ultrasound was dismissive, stating that he could not see anything. When I asked what the lump could be, he suggested that there was nothing there. Good news but I still have a lump, with no idea what it is. I would have appreciated reassurance but this was not forthcoming.

I am sorry to hear that you had a poor experience during your attendance to the Breast clinic and that you felt there was a lack of reassurance. It is really important for us to receive feedback so that we can make improvements. I have shared your concerns with the teams at Barnstaple and Exeter so that we may reflect on the way we communicate with patients in the future. If you would like to talk with a member of the breast team at either Barnstaple or Exeter, please do call our main hospital number (Barnstaple or Exeter) and ask for the Breast care team.

Attended via ambulance after a fire in which I went from nurse to patient in a click. The team from start to transfer to otter ward were professional, made me feel at ease and worked their socks off . It was after here the care changed sadly and I now have bed sores I didn’t when I came in . Thank you for your part , I sadly didn’t get names as wasn’t in a fit state to, but you were on the morning afternoon shifts on Weds 16th August

Review titled Amazing Staff
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Ruth Fairman - Posted on 04 July 2023
My father was taken to A and E with mental health issues. Even though the wait was long my parents and I were constantly treated with care and respect. We are informed of approx. wait times and processes. Even though it was the early hours of the morning the staff remained good humoured, patient and even fed us. Despite the extreme conditions NHS staff our under currently. They were just amazing. We need to look after the NHS and the people who work within it with the utmost respect they so very much deserve. Thank you.

Review titled Miscarriage care
by sunny75 - Posted on 02 August 2023
Sadly went through a miscarriage recently, but the team at Exeter Women's Health Centre were all very kind and supportive and handled the situation very sensitively. The service was efficient and I felt well looked after. The kindness of the staff was really valuable to me.

Review titled Excellence in hip replacement
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Robert Ferrier - Posted on 03 August 2023
I was lucky to get a cancellation for full hip replacement. The slick, professional and friendly treatment from the initial contact to my discharge was I felt exceptionally good. The operation went so well I actually have not memory of it . The pre op , admission and anaesthetic procedure were excellent and informative. Post op on the recovery ward and working towards discharge was friendly caring and not without humour. Less than a week after the operation I am mobile and able to resume life although still somewhat restricted. The team should rightly be proud of their professionalism and care throughout. I thoroughly recommend them to anyone needing a hip operation.

Review titled Wonderful service
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Sally-Ann Hunt - Posted on 20 July 2023
Yesterday I suffered a very severe nosebleed, my third in a month; I was advised by the 111 service to attend A and E in Exeter. Although there were delays which I’d expected, when I was seen, I was thoroughly examined and a complete medical history was taken by a nurse practitioner whose knowledge and reassuring, friendly manner impressed me. She contacted an ENT doctor who came to see me and carried out a surgical procedure on my nose. Again, her manner and expertise were reassuring and impressive. I am extremely grateful to the NHS and all the hardworking staff in this department, especially to the two members who attended to me.

Review titled Excellent Hospital
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 04 July 2023
Excellent 5* care given to my 97-year-old Mum in the Orthopaedics Department recently. The attention and treatment she received from all staff was outstanding and she felt completely at ease. Can’t fault anything. However, the car-park service was disappointing with the inability to pay either by contactless card or ‘phone app although signage said you could, and to top it all a payment in cash on one visit resulted in a Penalty Charge Notice being issued for the date and time in question. Just as well I retained my Car-park receipt, so I now have to go through the Appeal process. Visited daily and paid in cash each time, so just waiting for more erroneous PCN’s to pop through the letterbox.
