Review titled Selfish smokers at the hospital entrance
Rated 3 stars out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 08 November 2024
I'm a Cancer patient. Every time I visit the hospital I am having to walk through a cloud of cigarette smoke to get into the building. There are 'No Smoking' signs all over, yet these selfish people ignore them and choose to smoke right at the entrance, and between the entrance and the car park. They may not care about their own health but I care about mine, and I do not want to inhale their exhaled filth. At my previous visit I raised the issue in person but attended an appointment today and nothing has changed. I confronted one of these disgusting people today and explained to them that Cancer patients are using that entrance but they don't care. Royal Hallamshire needs to deal with this issue, it is a problem every time we visit the hospital. If the policy of the hospital is that it is a non-smoking site then why is it not being enforced?

Review titled Excellent care
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Janet Musson - Posted on 16 October 2024
I attend for my eye injections. Whilst the idea of them is quite stressful the staff make the experience bearable. They explain everything, they stick to appointment times and they work quickly but with care. On most occasions you would hardly know that I have had the injection, once or twice a blood vessel has left me with a bloodshot eye, but this is very rare.

Review titled Entrance to the hospital
Rated 3 stars out of 5

As it is now impossible to be dropped off outside the main entrance to the hospital, it is really difficult if you are unwell, or have limited mobility, attending appointments is very difficult! The last thing you want to do is to be traipsing all the way along that corridor past the chapel to get to the lifst on A floor, to get to where you need to be in the main hospital! Recently my husband had to park in one of the drop off bays, fetch a wheelchair, wheel me to the lift, go up a floor, wheel me to the main lifts, take me to G floor, then wheel me to G1, where I was being seen as an emergency, leave me, hurry back to the car to find a space before being able to join me on the ward. Frankly I did not want to be left alone at that time as I was very frightened. Also why aren't patients allowed to use the link corridor to the jessop wing? You can only do so if a member of staff takes you, which surely is not a good use of their time . For many of us, the walk outside is just too exhausting!

Thank you ever so much for taking the time to share your feedback about your recent experience of care. We are sorry to read about your difficulties with logistics of getting to your appointment from the drop-off bay. Almost 2 years ago the Trust took the decision to make B Road a pedestrian only area, with vehicular access only being for emergencies. The area was originally closed off for a period to enable structural work to be undertaken. This was reviewed and overall it was felt to have been beneficial and a much more pleasant and safe environment, with the decision then being that the road should remain closed to vehicles. It is recognised that this does put further pressure on A Road and also that access into the main building is through the use of the lifts. We have reviewed options for improving A Road and we are also working with the council to look at improving access from the roads adjacent to the hospital and hope to see improvements in the near future. We do also have welcomer volunteers at our sites who may be able to help with getting you to your appointment from the drop-off location, so you do not have to navigate this on your own or be left alone while your partner finds a parking space. Please do ask our volunteers (in blue t-shirts near entrances) who are happy to help. I have now received some advice from our Estates team to advise patients can only use the link corridor to the Jessop Wing if accompanied by a staff member. This is to ensure safety and security for the Jessop Wing and because the approach corridor from the Hallamshire Hospital building is a staff only access area, meaning that patients cannot enter the area to get onto the link bridge without being accompanied by a member of staff for the security of this area. I hope this information is helpful and provides some clarity on this point for you. Once again we are really sorry to read about your poor experience, and would like to take this opportunity to wish you all the best with any ongoing care or treatment.

Review titled Very long and unecessary wait when in pain.
Rated 3 stars out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 30 September 2024
My appointment in the day assessment pain clinic today was 10 30 am. A very busy time for traffic and parking at the hospital. My procedure took place at 3pm. Why get you there at 10 30 am when the procedure was never going to happen in the morning? A very long and boring wait in uncomfortable chairs when we are in pain after all. They could have told us we wouldnt have the procedure until the afternoon.

Thank you ever so much for taking the time to share your feedback about your recent experience of care. We are sorry to hear about the long wait you experienced between your arrival and your procedure taking place. The current process for the service's theatre lists (for patients coming for procedures) is that all the patients on the list are asked to arrive at the same time to enable the consent process to be completed for all patients before the procedures take place. Unfortunately, this does mean that some patients have to wait for some time before their procedure. This process is the same as is used in a number of other areas, but the pain clinic team are keen to learn from other areas across the Trust to understand if a more efficient system that they could learn from could be used, so are going to explore options for improving this for patients. The team will also link in with the team responsible for the waiting area to share the feedback about the chairs and to explore any further support which could be provided to patients who have longer waits. We would like to take this opportunity to wish you all the best with any ongoing care or treatment.

Review titled Outstanding care
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Alnaar Clayton - Posted on 17 August 2024
I recently spent three weeks at Halamshire Hospital in Sheffield, and I cannot express enough how impressed and grateful I am for the exceptional care I received. From the moment I was admitted, I was looked after by an outstanding team of professionals, including doctors, consultants, neurologists, nurses, and all the supporting staff. Their expertise, dedication, and compassion were evident in every aspect of my treatment. The hospital is impeccably managed, with a highly professional and supportive staff who went above and beyond to ensure that all patients were comfortable and well cared for. The environment they create not only aids in physical recovery but also helps ease the anxiety that often accompanies hospital stays. The level of personalized care I received made a significant difference in my experience and contributed greatly to my sense of well-being. Halamshire Hospital is a model of excellence in healthcare, and I am deeply appreciative of the remarkable work they do for their patients. Thank you to the entire team for your tireless efforts, kindness, and the exceptional service you provide. Your commitment to patient care is truly commendable.

Review titled Wonderful staff.
Rated 5 stars out of 5

Having been dreading my visit to the Breast Screening Dept this afternoon 13.3.24 (after my last visit) I would like to thank both the lady on reception and the lady doing the screening. Both lady's were really friendly and caring. I can't think of any ladies that can say they enjoy having to visit this unit but a friendly smile, and a little bit of kindness, goes a long way. The lady doing the scanning told me exactly what she was doing whilst she was carrying out the scan in a very relaxed way. Thank you so much.
