  1. Review titled Paramedics were great, very competent and kind.

    by neptunenk37 - Posted on 15 May 2023

Fell off a set of small steps while cleaning ground floor windows. Flung myself to the right to avoid falling on the rockery. Landed hard on my right side on grass. Couldn't move to start off with, then managed to hitch on my bottom inside the house. A lot of pain in my groin, couldn't put any weight on my right leg. I knew I hadn't broken my hip as it's a titanium one, but really worried I'd cracked a bone in my pelvis or something. Rang 111 first and they were really kind and reassuring. They arranged an ambulance. Had to wait several hours but that was understandable as I wasn't an emergency. Paramedics were great, very competent and kind. At the hospital I had X-rays done; no bones broken. I was in a ward for a time resting, then I was given crutches and practised walking a few yards. Very nervous as still in a lot of pain but able to go home. Over a week later I'm still on crutches as I still have to take some of the weight off my right leg, and I'm still taking painkillers, but definitely improving.

Thank you for taking the time to share your recent experience of our emergency services. I am sorry to hear that you had to wait a while for an ambulance to reach you but it is lovely to hear of the care you received from both paramedics and our emergency department. The paramedics who attended to you are employed by South Central Ambulance Service (known as SCAS), and I have provided their contact details below: Telephone: 0300 123 9280, Email: patientexperience@scas.nhs.uk . I have shared your feedback with the clinical leads of the Emergency Department at the Royal Hampshire County Hospital, I know they will be greatly encouraged by your words. I do hope you are making a good recovery, and thank you once again for taking the time to share your experience with us, it is appreciated. Kind regards Alex Whitfield Chief Executive

  2. Review titled Amazing A&E Department

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 16 May 2023

I attended here with my Daughter on a Saturday afternoon, expecting to be there for hours (had I needed to it wouldn't have been a bother) We were initially checked in my a wonderful receptionist, then into the paediatrics waiting room, swiftly called into the back to be assessed. Then seen my the X-Ray team and back to the wonderful nurses/clinical staff members to be given the results. I cant express enough how lovely every member of staff here was. I though I may have been wasting their time as it may have only been a minor injury. However it was actually broken. We were in and out within 2 hours! We are so very lucky to have this service on our doorstep! Thank you to everyone working in the A&E department - especially the paediatrics department who we dealt with on this occasion.

  3. Review titled Thankyou Bartlett Ward Staff and Theatre Team

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Susan Marion Mead - Posted on 26 April 2023

Earlier this week I was unfortunate enough to need to be admitted for surgery for the removal of my gall bladder. My surgeon and his team were efficient, effective, supportive and above all excellent with the extra care during my procedure. The male anesthetist was so kind and patient ensuring the process was as bearable as it possibly could be under the circumstances. The surgery was ably supported by the Bartlett Ward in my case. All staff on ward ably led by Sister Abby was exemplary from admission to discharge thankyou to the entire team. I continue my recovery at home which is incredibly slow, and painful but the Hospital was excellent. The NHS is wonderful and the staff deserve every penny extra they seek...Thankyou NHS

  4. Review titled Wonderful care

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by MRS HELEN L CARCAS - Posted on 23 April 2023

I was admitted to hospital on Easter Monday 10th April 2023. The care shown by ambulance crew, the staff in ED, and Mcgill Ward was amazing. From the time I called 111 until the time I had a bed in Shawford ward was less than 6 hours. I was discharged on 19th April and all of the time I was in Shawford Ward I felt confident that I was very well cared for by a consultant, registrars, all of the nurses and care staff....you are an amazing team . Heartfelt thanks to you all. Unfortunately I have been home 3 days and now my husband and I have Covid , hope it doesn't set me back too much.

Over the past two months I have been treated by the staff of the Opthalmolgy department at the Royal County Hospital Winchester. The treatment that I received was exceptional; all of the team were extremely professional and the skill of my Consultant was simply amazing. Thank you so much. This is the NHS at its very best and we are lucky to have them.

  6. Review titled Our Mum’s care following a stroke

    by septembercr89 - Posted on 20 July 2023

Mum was admitted to Winchester hospital - Twyford ward - following a stoke. We were given various promises about physio and ensuring she could walk, when she was discharged it was apparent this had not been the case. We were told she had capacity and could therefore refuse! We had specifically stated that she could be difficult and were happy to go in and work with the team - we were not asked! We also felt that we were being pushed to have a feedtube in her stomach but choose risk feeding. We felt she was messed around with this too as her water and food levels were changed with no reasons given often putting her backwards. When she was discharged we refused the 8 carers a day and has managed her care successfully on our own. She has physio at home and three weeks later is now able to walk and eat normal meals. We feel very frustrated and let down by the hospital as she could have been so much more independent had she been given the correct care. Since her discharge the support we have received has been far more specific to her needs and the results are showing.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback of your mother’s care at our hospital. I am so sorry to hear of your experience. The team on Twyford ward work incredibly hard to provide patient centred care that is specific to each patient, and they would be heartbroken to hear that this had not worked for your mother. Please do contact our PALS and Complaints Team so that we can discuss your concerns further and learn from your experiences to improve care for future patients. Their contact details are: Palsandcomplaints@hhft.nhs.uk telephone number 01256 486766. I do hope you will get in touch. Kind regards Alex Whitfield Chief Executive

  8. Review titled Regular calls from the virtual ward doctors worked well

by AlWoo - Posted on 06 April 2023

I’d tested covid positive on the Monday and on Wednesday my throat had become so sore and restricted that I thought if it got any worse I wouldn’t be able to breathe. My partner drove me into A&E Winchester, where it was very quiet at about 10 am. May have been a strike day. My sats were found to be low so I was put on oxygen, given steroids and antibiotics. After a couple of hours my throat was painless and I could swallow again. The doctors initially said they wanted me to stay overnight, but about 5 pm decided that virtual ward was a possible option, which I preferred anyway as sleep is not easy in hospital on first night. I was given a sats monitor and antibiotics and sent home feeling much better. Progress each day found me out walking on the Friday. Regular calls from the virtual ward doctors worked well.

  9. Review titled The best care and attention

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by John F Holloway - Posted on 08 March 2023

I was having lunch in winchester when I fainted. The restaurant called for an ambulance ...the crew spent a long time checking me and eventually I was taken to a&e where I was checked all over again and I even was seen by a consultant! I was then taken to a 'ward' where more checks were done and eventually released after 6 hours in the a&e. I was most impressed by the care and attention by all your staff. Thank you all....
