Review titled Next-best thing to enjoyable
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by RaDar217 - Posted on 16 April 2023
Had a cystoscopy in Clinic 2 last Thursday. The consultant and nurses were totally professional, friendly, cheerful and helpful. The consultant gave me a conducted tour of my waterworks, including prostate, explaining everything as he went. Allowing for the inevitable ( fairly brief) delay on my appointment time - you're attending to patients, not the clock, there is nothing that I can think of that could have improved my experience. Many thanks.

Review titled RSH - Amazing 👏

I attend the Urgent Treatment centre during the Bank Holiday weekend. I was triaged within 25 minutes, sent for an xray, and received a diagnosis and prescription. I was there for less than an hour. I have not attended Shrewsbury Hospital for a long time. I have to say the UTC set up was fantastic. Such an efficient service and well orchestrated. I appreciate the department may of been experiencing a quiet period and my attendance was at the right time, however I would of waited far longer if necessary. A huge thanks to the friendly staff from reception to the nurse who treated me and all those in between. A huge thank you 😊

Review titled Good care on the endoscopy unit on sunday.
Rated 4 stars out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 26 March 2023
My appointment was booked quickly. (i have used this unit twice, but before covid). The unit was busy and running to time with appointments on a Sunday. The staff were professional kind, caring and helpful. The unit was clean and staff took great care of their cross infection protection of us all. My procedure however was not completed due to my own health problems. The nurse who cared for me after the colonoscopy cared for me well. doing regular obs bringing me tea and biscuits, offered to help me dress and kindly phoned my husband when I was ready to go. She explained the findings, gave me a copy of the letter she was sending to the consultant and my GP and escorted me to my husband in the waiting area. However it must be disheartening for the hard working staff of the hospital to be described as "inadequate" by the inspectors whoever they are. After covid and strikes, these good people have been through a great deal of stress and need praise and compliments for all the things they are getting right. I did sense a slight atmosphere in the hospital of low spirits from pre covid days. They are doing a wonderful job in Shrewsbury Hospital well done very "adequate" by my estimation, Thank you Drs. Nurses and helpful support staff.

Review titled Terrible service
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Barbara Schwarz - Posted on 02 February 2023
a man with a bad heart condition had to wait 2.30hrs in pain. I was sent by my gp to have an emergency scan. told by a doctor, they would not do a scan, he was arrogant, would not listen to what I had to say, I was in excruciating pain, and was told to go to my gp for pain relief. a terrible experience that left me in tears. I would never ever go there again no wonder the rating is 1 After coming from Norfolk, and having treatment by real professionals, I really noticed the poor standard in Shrewsbury Hospital

Review titled Cancellation twice of surgery to remove my gallbladder
by Michelle234 - Posted on 07 March 2023
I was due to have my gallbladder removed mid February this year, I was sat in the hospital all gowned up ready to go to theatre and my surgeon came in to tell me he would be cancelling my surgery as his last operation was more complicated than he thought. I was sent a new date for the beginning of March 2023. I received a phone call from the hospital yesterday afternoon to say that my surgeon has cancelled my operation as he has seen something in my blood test. I had at my pre op and wants me to have another scan I am so upset as I have been in constant pain since June last year. I am being sick on a regular basis and my stomach is so bloated I look like I am about 8 months pregnant which I am not and could not be as I had a full hysterectomy in 2007. I am also slightly confused that the surgeon who was going to do my operation the first time didn't say anything about my blood test results and only cancelled due to a complicated surgery before me. I am getting worried about this as other than saying he saw something in my blood test and wants me to have another scan I wasn't told what was seen that concerned my surgeon enough to cancel my surgery. I just hope I have a scan date for sooner rather than later as I don't honestly know how much longer I can cope with it

Review titled Total waste of time and 50 miles away.
Rated 1 star out of 5
by hans jones - Posted on 15 February 2023
Arrived early in outpatients waiting room Clinic 2. A nurse came for me and I sat in Wheelchair like scales she asked if I smoked I said no. I was then sent back to waiting room. Quite soon I was ushered into a consulting room, a side door opened and a young Consultant appeared. He asked me one Question no information for me after less than 1 minute he disappeared through same door. A complete waste of time a phone call for me. No car at all dreadful place.

Review titled Shocking

Urgent care being run by the A & E doctors in A & E. Result...an 8 hour wait until 2.30am and then told we would be waiting all night in urgent care as the A & E doctors were in A & E. Could have told us that when we arrived at 6.30pm. Gave up and came home. Daughter in bits because of her pain. No painkillers available whilst we were waiting. 5 hours to be triaged. Shocking

Review titled Day surgery appt
Rated 4 stars out of 5
by Ray Sant - Posted on 19 January 2023
I went into the dept for a day procedure under local anesthetic. I did have to wait 5 1/2 hours before I was taken down to the theatre but in defence of the staff I was 3rd on the list to be done. I was informed when in the theatre that the emergency theatre staff who had just come on duty kindly agreed to let the surgeon carry out the procedure as there were no emergency procedures to do. I was treated exceptionally well by all theatre staff and consultants/surgeons who operated on me and they all kept me at ease and I have to say the procedure went seamlessly well. I have nothing but praise/respect for the RSH Urology and theatre dept . I know it was a long wait to get treated but I was very appreciative of the staff who enabled it to take place. The NHS is an excellent service which is sadly spoilt by over administrative procedure, just let the surgeons and nurses do what they do best. Sincere thanks. Ray.

Review titled Amazing Service

Speed of ambulance, x-ray and A&E staff to attend to my husband following a traumatic fall resulting in a broken patella and arm were exemplary. All the staff were caring and compassionate and looked after me as well as him. Everything was explained in detail and the teams were polite, jovial and friendly. Successful surgery the same day and excellent pre and post care by the theatre team then wonderful care on the day surgery unit. I cannot express our thanks and gratitude for what was an awful experience made so much better by all your staff; Thank you.

Review titled Experience with Same Day Emergency Care Unit.
Rated 4 stars out of 5

Reception and initial tests were faultless and speedy.. Staff were friendly and welcoming. Cup of tea and biscuits on arrival. Sandwiches for lunch.Very long wait (nearly four hours) for doctor, who was friendly and helpful on arrival, despite the pressure he was undoubtedly under. Scan and evaluation followed reasonably swiftly. Note was taken of my need to leave before dark. As a separate issue, I am disabled, and had to walk some distance, because the allocated disabled spaces near to the Unit were occupied by ambulances. I hope note will be taken of this.
