  1. Review titled Very caring

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Phillipa Massey - Posted on 07 October 2022

I attended the outpatients 1 clinic on the 5th 6th oct 2022 with my daughter who was unwell in the waiting area she has seizures, of which she had a few of on both visits. The team were very caring, friendly and professional both with myself and my daughter. I am a Nurse myself and we have had numerous hospital appointments and admissions over the years and this team were the most professional . They put me at ease as well as my daughter and it makes a huge difference to us. Thank you all for your care, keep up the good work.

  2. Review titled Terrible experience overall

Rated 2 stars out of 5

by Becky - Posted on 19 July 2023

My waters broke at 36+2 weeks, the dr I saw at MAU first didn't believe me but changed his mind after scanning me, I was kept on the ward overnight and sent home the next day as labour had not progressed. I was back a day later with regular contractions. After a few hours waiting at MAU I was told my baby had a reduced heartrate and was told I would be taken to labour and delivery to be induced as I still wasn't progressing. The midwives changed shifts and I was forgotten about untill I asked what was happening hours later, the senior midwife said I wasn't contracting enough so why on earth would they send me to labour and delivery. When I asked if she had any handover notes she said she would have to find them, suggesting they hadn't been read in the first place. I was then told I couldn't go to labour and delivery as they were too busy and my baby's heart rate had stabilised, I would have to go back to the ward overnight. This was after being there for 10 hours, with no offer of food and rarely offered water unless I asked. The next morning I was put on the ward with women who had given birth already, eventually left by myself when they were moved on to postnatal, my requests for pain relief or any help in the early hours were met with a lack of compassion that made me feel like I was being a pain. When I told I would have to wait a couple of hours for more paracetamol and then being upset as it wasn't helping I was told by the midwife and I quote "You don't have to be a martyr, you can have some pethidine". As a first time Mum I had no idea what pain relief I could have, and felt upset that I was being spoken to like I was just trying to be difficult. The midwife didn't return to give any more pain relief. I was finally taken to labour and delivery to be induced 5 days after my waters had gone. My baby ended up in NICU due to suspectdd sepsis and low blood sugar, when upset about this on the ward, I could hear the young midwives at the desk nearby ridiculing me for being so upset. Going back there to have a baby in the future is my worst nightmare, the thought of even stepping foot back in the building makes me anxious.

Dear Becky, I am so very sorry to read your comments regarding your experience of our Maternity Services. 3. Review titled Tenacity in adversity

Rated 5 stars out of 5

    by Leo K - Posted on 13 September 2022

I was treated on ward 231. I was treated extremely well by every single member of staff over a 4 day period, going above and beyond. However, during my staff I was exposed to some of the most disgusting people I have ever had the misfortune to meet. I witnesses countless examples of verbal abuse and one example of physical abuse where two nurses. On every occasion it was dealt with calmly and patiently despite the disgusting behaviour they faced. I wouldn’t blame the waiting times on a lack of staff; it’s these types of people monopolising staffs’ time. I can not imagine why somebody would want to work here. Thank you Ward 231 for everything - you were fantastic. Leo K

Dear Leo, Thank you so much for taking the opportunity to comment on your experience on Ward 231. It saddens me to read of the behaviours you witnessed from other patients, however our staff work extremely hard to remain professional at all times and I know they will very much appreciate your kind words which I will share with them. 4. Review titled World Class Heart Failure Service

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Dr Peter Barritt - Posted on 11 October 2022

I transferred here from care in Telford which was chaotic. The consultant and nurse specialists in Stoke are brilliant, up-to-date, friendly, professional and kind. I am now on 6 different medicines for heart failure and no longer feel ill, tired and breathless on minimal exertion. Thank you so much.
