  1. Review titled Endoscopy

Rated 4 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 18 August 2023

I had a Gastroscopy yesterday and there was a delay of around an hour which, to be honest, I understood and had no issue with. When it came for the procedure, the Health Care Assistant who did all the checks, the two nurses in the room (and the consultant who performed the gastroscopy) were faultless. The same was true of the nurse in recovery. If I had one complaint it is that you previously received a copy of the report of the endoscopy whereas now you only get a standard letter with handwritten comments. Other than telling me I had another large ulcer and should take some additional meds, it didn't tell me the extent of the ulceration. I am pretty focused on this because I have had two partial gastrectomy procedures to resolve bleeding ulcers that were refractory to the medication and so I am not sure if I will make the 8 week wait for a surgical review. My history involves multiple admissions with either melena or haemetemesis and a little knowledge that could have been shared might have helped me discuss things with my GP. That said, the service on the day was absolutely faultless, even with the unplanned delay at the start.

  2. Review titled Excellent

Rated 5 stars out of 5

Unfortunately, my procedure had to be postponed a few weeks due to staff illness. However once the procedure happened it was excellent from start to finish, from receptionists to nurses and doctors. Everyone was friendly, reassuring and made the process easy despite nerves. Thank you all

  4. Review titled Very respectful

I had a CT scan of the colon area today in our wonderful new hospital and the experience was as good as it could be. I was treated with care, understanding and respect by all the staff in the diagnostic department and of course the facilities are impressive. Communication and appointments haven’t always been good but once in the system our NHS is second to none.

  6. Review titled So impressed…

Rated 5 stars out of 5

I saw a Consultant in Lewes following an earlier attendance at Accident & Emergency. I was referred for a stress echo and was so impressed with the clinician and the consultant who performed the test in the new building. Following the echo, unfortunately I am now waiting for an appointment for an angiogram but, so far, the attention I have received from the entire cardiology team at Lewes and RSCH has been phenomenal. Thank you.

  7. Review titled Room For Improvement

Rated 3 stars out of 5

by Victoria Nagy - Posted on 22 June 2023

Spent 12 days in major trauma with broken ankle with complications. Positives: - The permanent nursing staff is awesome. professional, efficient and caring above and beyond keeping up the good cheer despite all the issues they had to deal with on top of complex patient care. - The surgical consultants I met were excellent in every way. Admirable efficiency, candour and people skills despite the long hours worked due to the jr doctor's strike that weekend. Negatives: - Fire in the i.t. department on a Saturday night meant no computers till late Monday. The nurses were writing medication and vitals data on paper towels because they had no back up system like a diary or paper even to write on, at a 20 + bed major trauma unit! result: two recent post-op patients on my ward had no pain killer for seven hours! - Agency nurses on my second nigh left the water tap running for no reason opposite me bed and didn't answer my neighbour's (old lady with with dementia on top of injury) for 27 minutes. Then two of them returned to loudly and extensively discuss their problems of getting paid from their agency at the foot of my bed at 3 am. - Poor listening skills: among other instances I told the physio that three of the metatarsals were previously broken in the foot they wanted me to use, yet they insisted that I jump up on a high step - not in the records so ignore eyes? This made me put my injured foot down, which means one of the recently fixed broken bone bit got misaligned (hurt like hell). - Got released with problem on the xray to be reviewed but consultant didn't call back the next day as supposed to. - No hot water for shower for my last four days there. - No airconditioning in the millennium building meant on hot days we suffered. One small working fan was found. 1 - Only one Xray machine worked (the other is out of order) in the whole building meant hospital beds and wheelchairs crowding every inch of space for hours. Moving to new building the same day meant no porters available to take patients back to their ward afterward. A worried nurse from my ward came looking for me after an hour ... Sum Up: Lots of broken equipment + staff shortage for moving to new building + doctors strike + fire + Insufficient contingency measures + poorly supervised agency staff other than that I have no complaints.

  8. Review titled Professional, caring, service

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Fi Luck - Posted on 06 June 2023

Second visit to the cardiac unit this year. On both occasions the care has been exemplary. Professional, caring staff. Procedures are explained and staff go out of their way to reassure you. The staff in the operating theatre really put you at ease, making what could be a stressful situation calm. All the team are kind, caring and professional. I have full confidence in the care I received.

  9. Review titled Amazing Staff, Amazing Skills - Life Savers

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by David Mortimer - Posted on 06 June 2023

I was admitted under Blue lights from a heart attack and cardiac arrest where I had died twice and brought back by CPR from an off duty police officer and AED by paramedics. Once in, the amazing staff at this hospital, installed a stent and induced a coma for 10 days to which I was attended to 24hrs a day keeping me going. My situation was grave but at no time did they give up on me. I am now through it thanks to the skills and professionalism of every single staff member I came in contact with. The eternal gratitude of myself and my family go out to all that attended me and brought me back to life. I will never forget them.
