  1. Review titled Long wait

Rated 4 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 12 November 2023

Maternity Dept is terribly understaffed. My daughter has been in 5 days to be induced …. very slow process. Still waiting for waters to be broken as she is in a queue! Even though she is high risk. I cannot fault the staff they are excellent and do everything they can but unfortunately there is just not enough staff to cope with demand. The delays due to understaffing are causing stress, frustration and upset to patients and their partners when this should be such a happy positive time. I strongly feel staffing issues need to be addressed asap on the maternity ward.

We are happy to hear that staff have been excellent, but it is disappointing to read that your daughter has not had a good experience whilst in our care. We have shared your comments with the Matron and Lead Nurse who will take appropriate action. 2. Review titled Great service, but some areas lacking

Rated 4 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 30 November 2023

My wife was induced but ended up having an emergency c-section. The midwives throughout induction were amazing, 10/10. We were there for four days and they could not have been more helpful and caring. However my wife had an emergency c-section and the aftercare wasn’t up to the standard I expected. I wasn’t allowed to stay as it was around 11pm so past visiting time by the time we got up to the ward, but my wife had little to no help cleaning herself or changing/feeding little one. Considering she was recovering from major abdominal surgery, and was still regaining feeling in her legs, I expected there to be more help for her. Either give the women the help they need after a c-section, or let partners stay to give them help instead.

  3. Review titled A very and pleasant and content stay

    by Annette947 - Posted on 27 October 2023

I brought myself into Russell Hall recently with severe abdominal pain, was seen in 15 minutes by a doctor and sent straight to ward B5 for further investigation. A cat scan was ordered upon finding a problem with my bowel, and I was admitted to ward B3. I have got to say the nursing staff couldn't do enough for me. My visit and stay as been a wonderful experience, I have a phobia about needles but even that was no problem

  5. Review titled Great midwives!

Rated 4 stars out of 5

by Anna Darbinson - Posted on 22 September 2023

I can’t express enough gratitude for the exceptional care provided by the midwifery team during the birth of my baby girl. From the moment I walked in, I felt safe and well looked after, creating an environment where I could truly embrace a positive birth experience filled with beautiful memories. The two midwives who delivered my baby were not only skilled professionals but also incredibly kind, caring, and attentive. Their dedication to their work is truly remarkable. I sincerely hope that their exceptional care is acknowledged and appreciated by every expectant parent who walks through the doors of the maternity ward. Thank you for making this journey so special and ensuring the arrival of our little one was met with such care and compassion. You’ve left a mark on our hearts and memories to cherish.

  6. Review titled Poor Hygiene

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Helen Shaw - Posted on 23 September 2023

3 hours ago I used the toilet with A and E and there was no liquid soap in bottle. I reported this to receptionist so they could rectify issue. I have just been to toilet again and it still hasn’t been refilled which I find completely disgusting as well as being totally unhygienic. This place is full of patients many of whom are using the facilities and then unable to wash their hands. I have reported the issue again and receptionist doesn’t appear to be overly bothered.

  7. Review titled A credit to their profession!

Rated 5 stars out of 5

I attended gynaecology dept; recently, for a hysteroscopy . The consultant and his team were brilliant. I was warmly, with humour and caring, supported throughout. This made a huge difference to my experience. Very much appreciated. A big thank you to all.

  8. Review titled Amazing nurses

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Katie - Posted on 30 August 2023

I can’t begin to express my gratitude to the IBD nurses at Russell’s hall. From the day of my diagnosis (2 years ago) to my current issues around my health/ they’ve been nothing but supportive, efficient in their responses and incredibly detailed and knowledgable about things that absolutely terrify me. To know that I have them to turn to with any concern gives me a sense of calm in an ongoing storm. They really are amazing at what they do. I’ve heard of other patients with IBD who haven’t had great experiences with their IBD teams so I forever count my lucky stars.

We kept being called into triage then sent back to the waiting room and this happened four times despite my husbands obvious walking difficulties They took some blood and put a canula in When we saw the doctor , she didn’t know blood test had been done I had to organise the removal of the Canula myself The whole place is squalid Far too small When you go into triage , there is very little privacy It’s very noisy in there and very cramped The access to a and e is also very bad A most dreadful place

  10. Review titled Efficient despite challenging circumstances

Rated 3 stars out of 5

by Lesley - Posted on 27 August 2023

Triaged in Accident & Emergency/Emergency Care and admitted to Acute Medical Unit 09/08/23. Moved to Acute Medical Unit 2 Short Stay11/08/23. All the staff I encountered were very pleasant, patient and good humoured despite some challenging patients and despite clearly being tired by the end of those long shifts. This to include the consultants, doctors and nurses, phlebotomists, pharmacist who came to the ward twice, cleaners and kitchen staff. When they had the time the nurses had reassuring chats with patients and always responded to the patient buzzers. My treatment was explained and though I wasn't feeling well enough to take it all in, I was able to ask a few questions. Obs and Meds were administered regularly and efficiently. I was moved to Coronary Care overnight on 16/08/23 as presumably my bed was needed in Acute Medical Unit 2 and I was to be discharged anyway. The nurses in Coronary Care were really helpful in arranging for the discharge meds to be delivered next day at home so that I could get a lift home and didn't have to wait in the Discharge Lounge. Many thanks to everyone involved in my care and for all their efforts to make me feel so much better than when I was admitted.
