Review titled Excellent practice
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Jackie - Posted on 25 January 2024
Attended A&E with a broken shoulder. Waiting times were acceptable. X-rayed quickly and respectfully. Follow up appointments at Orthopaedic clinic were timely. Orthopedic consultants were attentive and informative. Instructions and advice were clear and thorough. Every member of staff I encountered in all departments was professional, courteous and efficient. I have received excellent care and speedy follow up physio treatment and would like to thank everyone who made this possible.

Review titled A hospital unable to dress surgical wounds??
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 12 December 2023
I had life changing surgery a week and a half ago and came to A&E because my stitches have popped and I have a hole in my body. I was passed around from pillar to post, reception staff were disputing that I did not belong in both departments. Eventually serious injuries decided to take me as their paitent, however I was told that they cannot cover my wound, I would need to visit a GP for this because they do not have staff to do it? I started my hospital visit at 8pm. Its now 3am and I have an undressed and unclean wound. I know our NHS is stretched so I am happy to wait my turn, but I did not expect to leave without absolutely any support. Aslong as I "haven't got sepsis it should be ok" unbelievable!

I was admitted on 25th Christmas Day for dizzy spells and soar chesty cough, from care and treatment from ambulance team to the wonderful doctor/nurse, I felt they were outstanding, my head was rough and I felt disorientated after each dizzy spell, I just want to say from the bottom of my heart, thank you and keep up the good work.

Review titled How do staff cope?
Rated 3 stars out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 21 November 2023
Took my mum to a&e at 5.30pm on a Monday, it was incredibly busy but as the evening wore on it became totally rammed with ambulances queuing up. Every member of staff we spoke to was brilliant & working so hard, but the hospital is so under resourced both in staff & the size of a&e. I cannot believe that such a recent redevelopment was planned & signed off and is so inadequate for the needs of the community. I must admit that I wasn’t convinced by how the system works, up & down speaking to different staff having to go over & over why you’re there, in for BP, then blood tests, then to see a nurse, then a doctor then a scan, it just seems to inefficient. Those suffering are those needing medical help & the staff trying to deal with everyone. As people are waiting 6 hours plus, getting tired & hungry tempers are fraying & the staff are not always being treated as they should be which is so difficult. It is so sad to see such an amazing institution with amazing staff struggling.

I recently attended the day case unit for minor surgery. The day was well organised, the ward was calm and clean, the staff were friendly and caring. The surgeon had lovely bedside manor. An enjoyable experience! Would 100% recommend.

Review titled Hard working and kind
Rated 4 stars out of 5
by Lesley Price - Posted on 12 November 2023
Initially admitted briefly to same day emergency care, then acute medical1 and c5. In all these wards the staff - nursing and all support staff - worked hard and were very kind despite having so little time to do everything. They noticeably supported each other when a lot was happening at once and their routine was disrupted. They were adept at dealing with different sorts of patients. The treatment advised by the doctors turned me round in under a week so thanks also to them when they were so busy.

Review titled Poor experience
Rated 2 stars out of 5

Our son went into A & E having collapsed, been sick, and being very confused, he didn’t even know his own name. The process in A & E is chaotic with people being left in the waiting room for many hours, sometimes days, because there are no beds. They were very slow putting him on antibiotics, which did sort out the infection he had. The reason they were slow was because there was nowhere for him to go. They eventually put him on a reclining seat in A & E and then into a cubicle after about 24 hours. Once he was treated he recovered quite well. The system would work much better if patients were treated quickly and either moved to beds or sent home. The worst part of the experience was that they allowed him to escape in the night despite promising us that they would supervise him. He walked about 2 miles from hospital towards home, he was very confused so anything could have happened. The hospital didn’t even report him to the police as missing! It was down to his girlfriend to report it once she knew. Thankfully the police found him safely. The other difficult part of the experience was the way the staff at the hospital spoke with him and his girlfriend. They practically accused them of drug abuse, domestic violence, mental health issues. It was clear that they were looking for a reason to send him home rather than treating him. I appreciate that they are under pressure but need to treat patients and family with respect. This was not just our experience, others in the waiting room had longer waits and were treated very badly. Overall our son was in the A & E waiting room for about 10 hours and in A & E department for about 36 hours.
