Review titled Expert Caring
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Sui Keung Francis Ho - Posted on 10 September 2024
As I am now in the final stage of my life, I must express my gratefulness from the bottom of my heart to all the Doctors, nurses, caring team, even ladies serving meal of Priory 5 Bay 1. (Admitted 13 August – 27 August 2024) Special thanks to a fantastic lady. From the 1st day of my admission when my wife and I met her, we felt that she was a friendly, caring, considerate and proactive person. She will not just do her job, for example, getting you sit upright and leave. Without any other emergency, she will stay to see if there is any other help you need until the patient seems able to handle the problem. Thank you very much. Francis

Review titled Lack of interest
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Alex - Posted on 27 June 2024
I was booked for a surgery I was on the waiting list for more than a year. After contacting the relevant team for rescheduling due to not having the necessary aftercare available at home, I was assured that this will be handled and I will get a phone call to reschedule when a space becomes available. Only to receive a call on the day of my preop appointment, in which the person had no idea I have called for a rescheduling. I was shocked to then receive a letter saying that I dna’d my appointment and I am taken off the waiting list and discharged to my gp. I feel very disrespected by this and the lack of communication between departments is appalling.

Review titled Very bad experience
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Fernando - Posted on 20 June 2024
First I must acknowledge that many members of the staff are very attentive and cordial but my comment is unfortunately not to praise the few but to comment on my bad experience at Sandwell General Hospital. The cleaning is too inefficient, I have been in the hospital for three days and the door of one of the bathrooms is still stained with blood as is one of the walls next to the sink, it is disgusting! I was transferred from a Birmingham hospital to there and therefore control and isolation tests must be carried out supposedly to protect others from possible infections imported from these places. Well surprise! . Despite the isolation, the same bathrooms are shared because the isolation toilet has been damaged for as long as possible. Could it be that if the isolated person tests positive for some contagious virus or bacteria, I will no longer distribute this throughout the hospital when using these same bathrooms? It also seems to me that there was poor treatment from the nurse who did the isopo test, exaggerating her procedure and causing harm and pain to me as a patient. It seems that she did it out of ill will, that's how I perceived it. I think that instead of them being careful that viruses are imported from other hospitals, others should be careful that they are imported from Sandwell Hospital. Too many noises at night without taking into account that it is a hospital and there are people in pain who deserve respect and peace to mitigate their pain. There is a lack of professionalism. It is a disappointment and very sad to see a hospital with good resources being misused. I work in the hospitality sector and I know what I'm talking about so I ask myself: Where is it and what has happened with the audits? So that the NHS can find a solution to it. Because in conclusion this hospital is sad!

Review titled No attempt to make a diagnosis
Rated 2 stars out of 5
by Patient in extreme pain - Posted on 26 May 2024
Was sent to Surgical Emergency Assessment Unit after 4 days of intense pain via City hospital. I was seen at City hospital A&E who thought it was a gallbladder problem. Doctor at SEAU said it wasnt a gallbladder or kidney problem based on his physical examination but I was not scanned etc to actually find out what was causing the pain. I was told to take paracetamol and come back in 2 weeks for a scan. Totally unacceptable to be sent home after 4 days in pain and having been to a walk in centre, A&E dept then to SEAU. What is the point of SEAU if it only repeats what’s already been done a few hours earlier then sends you home without proper investigation and any attempt to find a diagnosis. Very poor and I feel neglected. Appalling. No advice on pain relief until I asked then I was told to take paracetamol which was a joke seeing as City hospital felt I needed morphine which did work. I know morphine can’t be prescribed easily but surely something stronger than paracetamol could have!! I feel fobbed off and dismissed! No doubt if my pain continues I will have to go back to A &E which is awful as SEAU could have at least tried to sort my problem out and also leaving me on in pain for longer.

Review titled Good practice for CT Scan
Rated 4 stars out of 5
by Harry Hancox - Posted on 13 April 2024
After being unable to see GP, I made a visit to A&E a year ago assured all was fine, bar a mild anomaly found on a 2nd or 3rd ECG & assured nothing serious, I had then waited almost 10 months for scan, so chased it up because 6 month review by GP due. Within days appointment made. I was in & out in 2 hours, well treated & given assurance before scan etc. The only problem was the catheter needed two attempts and the 2nd resulted on removal in 10 minutes before blood stopped. A nice Doctor worried me, given my previous GP & the NHS assurances, because an angio-scan is now required. The Doctor explained that process, which I already understood was preventative measures & to enable if necessary, early mitigating &/or preventative action. So far my experiences at Sandwell A&E (despite 12 hours there last year) & yesterday at Cardiolgy have been good; not so much my GP's however.

Review titled Medication.
Rated 4 stars out of 5
by Tahera - Posted on 07 May 2024
My medication strength was not written on the prescription so I had been trying to contact the ENT department. I called atleast 3-4 times and have explained the situation to get a new prescription. It has been a week or more and I still haven’t gotten a prescription. My time has just been wasted not only calling but going into the pharmacy to not being able to get the medication I need. Very dissapointed.

Review titled Shut this hospital down
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 20 February 2024
Waited 12 hours In A & E,for chest pain and other symptoms only 3 weeks after a heart attack amd surgery(done at new cross).no heart medication was given to my husband and not even a cup of tea for his diabetes..nurses are very rude and don't look like they've been trained properly... For the 11 and half hrs we were sitting in A & E there was wee and sick on the floor and staff members just stepped over it...2 coppers were in reception with someone waiting to be seen and even they said...the staff at sandwell are a joke.. We self discharged and went to New cross hospital(organised, clean and staff that actually care about the patients)... Avoid sandwell at all costs

Review titled A threat to humanity
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Zeno - Posted on 17 January 2024
I am writing to express my profound disappointment and deep concern regarding the quality of care and operational efficiency I experienced during my recent visit to Sandwell Hospital. Throughout my 14-hour stay, I encountered a series of issues that raise serious questions about the hospital's adherence to acceptable standards of patient care and organizational competence. The most concerning aspect of my experience was the extensive wait times faced by myself and other patients. Despite seemingly straightforward needs, I waited for **two hours** to receive basic medication and an additional **one hour** after it was supposedly dispensed. Furthermore, I was informed that my blood work would be reviewed within **two hours**, however, the results were not available for **ten hours**. These delays were not isolated incidents, as evidenced by a young patient with disabilities who remained in a waiting room for **26 hours** seeking a prescription due to unavailability of beds. Beyond the significant delays, the communication breakdown between departments was evident and deeply worrisome. The lack of coordination and information sharing resembled the actions of young children playing with toys rather than the professionalism expected from a medical facility. This ineptitude not only caused immense frustration and anxiety for patients but also raises valid concerns about the potential for serious clinical errors resulting from such dysfunction. The overall lack of accountability and apparent apathy exhibited by hospital personnel, from frontline staff to leadership, was particularly disheartening. This negligence constitutes a severe threat to patient safety and well-being, and the sheer miracle that no casualties occurred during my brief stay speaks volumes about the precariousness of the situation. Given the gravity of these issues, I urge you to take immediate action to investigate and address these systemic failings at Sandwell Hospital. Urgent reforms are necessary to ensure patient safety, improve operational efficiency, and foster a culture of professionalism and accountability within the hospital. I am available to provide further details about my experience and would welcome the opportunity to discuss this matter further.
