  1. Review titled Very poor communication

Rated 4 stars out of 5

by Peter Stafford - Posted on 19 October 2024

While I am sure this department does marvelous work, however their communication skills are nowhere good enough. I recently underwent 5 sessions of radiotherapy, which ended on the 25th September, with a follow up of a telephone call at 9.30 am on the 18th October from the doctor concerned with my treatment to discuss the results of my treatment. This never happened!! Yesterday I waited two hours before phoning oncology department. The person I spoke to did not have a clue why the phone call was not made to me. He suggested that the doctor concerned would finish her surgery at 12pm. That the doctor might phone then. This did not happen. I had no communication from anybody in the oncology department. It was not until 5pm that I got a notification on my NHS app that a new phone call had been made for the13th December for 9.30. Nearly 2 months before I know whether or not I have got cancer. This is totally unacceptable. As one can imagine,I have been very uneasy while I have been waiting on that phone call to find out my results of the treatment. Not even a text, email, or a phone message to let me know what the hell is going on. Very poor communication with patient-doctor., then having to wait another 2 months of worry before the doctor deigns to get in touch with me. Although your hospital does amazing work and saves many lives, it would be nice if your doctors let patients, who might have cancer, know what the problem is,not no message at all to ease the patients worry and stress. A very unsatisfied patient.

I was taken into Hospital as an emergency admission. I cannot fault the care and attention by any of the staff during my stay in the General Hospital. Its too easy to criticize these days, but I wish to thank all involved during my stay. Their hard work and dedication to their jobs is a credit to them. Thank you so much.

  3. Review titled Amazing

Rated 5 stars out of 5

Had an appt on Saturday 28th September in ear, nose and throat dept. The doctor I saw (kk) was absolutely amazing. He was friendly, respectful, extremely caring and talked me through everything. He checked I was happy with everything. As soon as I walked in the room and he introduced himself, I felt at ease. I can’t say enough good things about him. He has arranged for an MRI scan and said he would ring me with the results to talk them through with me. If you could please clone this man then nobody would ever have a bad word to say about the health service.

  4. Review titled Friendly, helpful and very professional service

Rated 5 stars out of 5

I had a variety of scans today in the Nuclear medicine department. The staff are amazing. They were very caring and explained every step in a clear concise manner. This has been one of the best visits I have had to a NHS hospital. Well done.

The quoted average waiting time of 21 weeks is actually at least 46 weeks. Cancelling operations at short notice , several times, gives no consideration for patients mental health

  6. Review titled D4 - Wonderful Ward

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Joanna Thompson - Posted on 27 September 2024

My son was in D4 for 5 days and the staff couldn't have been more brilliant. Everyone went out their way to make us feel welcomed, and the care couldn't have been better or more genuine. Thank you so much to all the lovely staff of D4 and the wonderful surgeons who saved his life - we are forever grateful.

  7. Review titled Not so scary Dat scan, Nuclear Medicine

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Annie Pratt - Posted on 06 September 2024

Finally got round to having a Dat scan after having to cancel previously due to ill health. The staff in the department were excellent, and gave me plenty of time to ask questions before the procedure. Even if some of my questions were somewhat silly they took time to listen... The actual scan was very restful, none of the clanking and noise from an Mri scan, thankfully. Thank you to all concerned!

  9. Review titled Poor communication

Rated 2 stars out of 5

There were many incidences of lack of or poor communication during our visit to the John Atwell Day Ward. The signage at the hospital was unclear and we had to ask several staff for directions to the ward, many lifts were out of action. We weren’t told where to wait when my daughter was in her surgery. My husband and I were sat in a corridor when someone told us there was a place to wait. When I was shown out after my daughter was put under anaesthetic the nurse didn’t know where to take me, took me to the wrong floor and didn’t understand what I was saying. I had to call my husband for help. We didn’t feel we had all the information we needed prior to the surgery, we called the hospital and asked about my daughter’s blood pressure medication- a nurse on the ward told us she should take it. On the day, we were told by the anaesthetist that his advice would have been not to give it to her. I called the ward for advice on after care and was spoken to rudely by a nurse who was dismissive and said “you’ll be told on the day”. When I explained I wanted to try and prepare my daughter for potentially wearing an eye patch or perhaps not being able to wear her glasses- the nurse said she didn’t really know. When my daughter’s surgery was finished, we were told to go to a different level to the recovery area we were shown. When we asked at the recovery area we were shown a very rude, sour faced woman asked why we were there and if we’d been told to come. She rudely told us that eye surgery is on another level- no one had shown us this area before the surgery and it was confusing. It’s unfortunate that the ward itself is part waiting room and part ward, it felt busy and chaotic and we were directed to wait in a play area instead.

  10. Review titled Wonderful Nurses

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Mrs R Geddes - Posted on 16 July 2024

I spent 2 days in the lovely new Ward E12. The Nurses day time and night time were lovely, also those in the Endoscopy Ward. Not forgetting the very patient Dr who did the procedure. I was very stressed and he took the time to reassure me. Thank to you all.
