  1. Review titled Wonderful paediatric practitioner

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Holly - Posted on 13 November 2022

One twin broke his leg. Male nurse was full of energy, patience and kindness with both boys. Advice and manner were superb. Amazing care and service. Shame I can’t name and identify him on here as I’d like to thank him.

  2. Review titled So Professional

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Tony Harvie - Posted on 18 November 2022

Went into A &E because I could not urinate. Had to have a catheter inserted into my bladder to drain it. Have nothing but praise and thanks to everyone who was involved in my treatment. So kind and reassuring.

  3. Review titled These people are saints

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Del huse - Posted on 28 November 2022

I spent over 12 hours in A&E here today, from about 0230 in the morning, being diagnosed and treated for tremendous pain which turned out to be kidney stones. Faced with some less than cooperative nor appreciative customers, I watched the staff work solidly from shift to shift, maintaining their composure and professionalism when “the public” at times behaved terribly. I met everyone from the kitchen porter and trainee nurses through to junior and senior doctors and couldn’t be more impressed. Well done to you all, you are a credit to your profession and to this hospital and department.

  4. Review titled Xray and ultrasound booking line

by DashaDi - Posted on 18 November 2022

This is about the Southampton X Ray and Ultrasound Booking Line. My GP gave me this number and told me to call them for an appointment for an ultrasound. After numerous attempts and finally calling, to book an soft tissue US, which, according to the doctor's request, should be urgent (since for 5 months they have not been able to diagnose me and prescribe the appropriate treatment), they told me that they do not make an appointment by phone and they will send me a letter with a booking for home address during the working week. However, 2 weeks have already passed, and I still have not received the letter and the booking, respectively, too. Am I misunderstanding the meaning of the word "urgent"? In my understanding, "urgent" means at least in the next few days, not weeks or months.

  5. Review titled Fabulous treatment from every Department

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Jo - Chandlers Ford - Posted on 02 October 2022

I arrived in a & e via an ambulance on a very busy night. Despite the pressures the team were under I was looked after a received regular pain medication until a Doctor could assess me. I was admitted to f4 Spinal where the whole team were lovely, caring & reassuring. I received an mri scan & again everyone involved explained the procedure to me & considering I had been in agonising pain tried to make me as comfortable as possible. I received the result almost as soon as I returned to my room. A new pain regime commenced & after 7 weeks of intense pain I was completely surprised by the speed at which I started to feel better. Unfortunately I had to be moved in the early hours of the morning to a new but this was done with the minimum of fuss (almost exciting to be travelling the hospital in your bed at 3am). I arrived in f4 Neuro & was once again treated by lovely staff. Everyone I came into contact with was amazing. The food was great with lots of choice to build your own meal. When I was discharged I was almost sorry to leave! A heartfelt thank you to you all 💚

  6. Review titled Great Patient Centred care

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Farai Mupawaenda - Posted on 26 October 2022

My son came in for a procedure of his hip and steroid injection. On arrival we were met by very friendly staff . The Anaesthetist was around and immediately came to talk to us about the procedure. The way he allayed my son’s fears was just amazing. He took time to explain everything about the procedure and how the anaesthetic works. Am sure he must have seen the anxiety and fear on my son because he managed to just distract him by talking about football and general kids things . He really made my son to be at ease with his way of talking, casual but professional. As he left a few other staff members came who were very friendly but carrying out their duties with due diligence. Nobody tried short cuts , the questions were asked , the next staff member would ask exactly the same, not assuming it’s done already, double and triple checking that no mistake was made and no important information was missed. This impressed me as a parent because I am very particular about safety. None of the information we gave was ignored, everything was considered seriously to the point that Consultant doing the procedure came to talk to us about the few questions we had raised, she was very calm and listened very carefully and answered us in such a way that we were put at ease. My son was all relaxed by then, and smiling, everything that worried him was answered clearly and explanations given. Then the best part came, the Healthcare assistant who took care of us throughout made my son feel like he had found a better mother. This lady has a calling in her job, total dedication and passion, everything she did was done with genuine care and love for her patient. Any little request she would not discard it. Initially I thought this was morning by midday she would run out of fuel and change her attitude, but I was surprised as she took us to the ward after recovery, still showing 100% zeal and passion to everything she was doing. A very caring lady, very calm and respectful. I would have wanted to mention her name here but unfortunately I am not allowed. Up to this moment my son still talks about this wonderful nurse with a smile on his face. And the Consultant who did the procedure, busy as they are always , created time afterwards to come and explain in detail what she had done and what she hoped to happen after. The day I dreaded ended up being an amazing day for me and my son. The young anaesthetist and his assistant, I wish you could both remain young because you know how to talk to young people and make them laugh and forget the fears around them. The 2 nurses in recovery, I loved the way the senior was training the new member of staff, not intimidating, not ridiculing her or showing off that I am the senior here, she was just so chilled and this kind of team work is very important in minimising mistakes, it means the new nurse could ask for help from her Snr colleague easily. That made me relaxed. Thank you everyone. You really are a patient centred caring team.

  7. Review titled Unhappy Experience

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 31 October 2022

I am very sorry to say that I visited the A&E on a Saturday with my daughter who was in pain and we had no other option but to visit. We didn't want to but she needed a medical opinion and to be honest it was a nightmare. We had to wait for 6 hours, being triaged x 2 by very unfriendly, unhappy nurses who were so under pressure who asked if my daughter should be there! It was packed with so many people with mental health issues, mum and children, people with broken legs, arms, burns and bites. Old people crying and sitting in bewilderment. It was like a living nightmare for me and I wasn't ill. Something needs to change. Instead of people flocking to a big hospital perhaps the GP surgeries should be open 24/7 especially at the weekends with access to scanning equipment, etc or the community hospitals need to be reopened. Too many people are coming to A&E because there is no where else to go.

  8. Review titled Unacceptable

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Charlotte Ready - Posted on 07 September 2022

Triage nurse looked at my foot from about a meter away. No up close observations nor asked about circulation etc. Decided it only warranted the nurse practitioner and put me back into the waiting room. After an agonising 2hr wait and feeling my foot losing all it's circulation, I had no choice but to leave. Going to hospital shouldn't warrant you getting worse whilst waiting. I'll pay for private care as it is completely unacceptable.

I have spent two weeks on ward d10 for iv antibiotics and can’t express enough the dedication, care and unbelievable support and help I’ve had, every single one of the staff were wonderful, my consultant is the most caring, patient doctor I’ve had in my whole life and there have been quite a few, I feel very lucky to be treated by these wonderful caring professionals, unlike d5 which I’ve had unfortunately two previous visits to.

  10. Review titled Fantastic staff

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Peter Travis - Posted on 25 September 2022

Hi, unfortunately, I had to visit A&E on today, 25 Sept. Fortunately, I was treated by amazing staff who were so joyful, kind and professional in their work. Whilst waiting to be treated, I also observed a member of the public being abusive to staff. I feel for the teams in this situation. The staff member acted in a very professionally manner. Thank you to all. Pete
