Review titled Caring and Compassionate
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Angela Cowsill - Posted on 08 October 2024
My mother passed away in the A&E department 7th October. She was taken to the department on 6th early evening. From the moment she arrived until her passing all her needs and that of the family were met with dignity and respect. We saw 4 or 5 staff shift changes and every member of staff were compassionate and caring. We were kept informed at all stages, given options, allowed time and most importantly mum was allowed and peaceful and dignified death. Truely grateful

Arrived at A & E on a Friday morning, the place was very busy. Was seen very quickly as it was a cardiac problem. From my arrival to my discharge the whole experience was excellent. Well done to all concerned

Review titled Triage staff unprofessional, very disappointing
Rated 1 star out of 5

My partner attended at the referral of his General Practitioner for an urgent matter- he had collapsed unexpectedly being one of the issues in question, the Registered Nurse and Health Care Assistant within Triage were rude,no bedside manner at all... very dismissive and unsympathetic to say the least. I myself used to work at the same trust several years ago as a Care assistant and I'm disappointed to see it go further into decline, with staff that don't seem to care at all about the patients. My partner was also left with dried blood all over his arm and hand, from where he'd had bloods and a canula put in. I'm disgusted in his treatment and the clear lack of empathy shown.

Review titled First rate service in a really challenging department
Rated 5 stars out of 5

To whom it may concern My 86 year old mother became very unwell yesterday with severe chest pain. As she is normally very fit and healthy I hesitated but then called 999. The ambulance service who came to the house were prompt and extremely professional. They were really patient and thorough explaining everything they were doing. They were really respectful of mum and asked permission for every procedure they undertook. They handed over to the hospital sourced a bed cleaned everything thoroughly and only left mums side when they were safe in the knowledge A&E had all the information required and mum was comfortable. This crew were so professional, setting high standards and an absolute credit to the ambulance service. We were then in the care of A&E staff, it was extremely busy. We were then see by a physician associate named who was absolutely outstanding and provided a level of care to my mum that was first class. He made her feel like she was the only patient he was looking after (although as the day progressed we witnessed the same high standard of care from this individual across the department for many others). He spent time understanding the problem, thought outside the box sourcing tests and expertise when required. He explained in detail how the diagnosis would rule out certain things and why we had to take it step by step throughout the day. He chased results, as said sought other professional advice and is an absolute credit to your organisation. We were still in the department over 6hours however this was really not an issue as we couldn’t have asked for a more hard working individual, with high professional standards and level of first rate care from and I am sure there are others. They work in a really challenging environment day in day out and we as citizens are extremely lucky that they dedicate themselves to their profession. The NHS at times gets some bad press but I can honestly say our experience yesterday with these individuals concerned was first class.

Review titled Fantastic A & E Staff
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Leslie Cash - Posted on 27 September 2024
After seeing my GP I was told I had to go to A&E immediately. I arrived at A&E around 3pm, staff got me booked in quickly. A&E was already very busy which was quite surprising for a Monday. After about an hour or so I was seen by a nurse, super friendly and they explained everything. Then about an hour or so after that I got seen by someone else for blood tests, and that's when it got super busy and the wait times got crazy. I ended up being their for 10 hours till around 10pm at night, this is not something I blame the A&E staff for, they were amazing, and they were rushed off their feet none stop all day and night long, this was the fault of the government not funding them properly. Since it was so late they made sure I had a bed for the night and monitored me every couple of hours till the morning, then I was promptly seen by the consultants, and other staff before they would let me go. I can not rate them highly enough for how hard they worked and how well they looked after me. What did annoy me though was not the staff but the general public who came in looking for help, I saw a drunk guy effing and blinding none stop while there who kept disturbing the staff and being aggressive with them till security had to be called, there were a couple of women who were getting really short tempered with the nurses for no reason, how those members of staff kept their cool I'll never know as I would not of done. Those staff members deserve to be paid a lot more than they currently do because of what they have to put up with. So a big thank you from me to all the staff for looking after me, it's very much appreciated.

Review titled Fantastic professionalism

I was in a+e while they dealt with the fallout from the riots in Southport those 2 days. Nothing but admiration for the staff, handled the whole situation amazingly well. I have to admit I did not enjoy the experience myself, it was stressful and i wished i wasn't there. But considering what the staff had to deal with I have nothing but praise for them. Absolute heroes.

Review titled Unbelievable Care and Attention
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Niall Bootle - Posted on 28 June 2024
I had the dubious honour of being taken to Southport A&E by ambulance after collapsing and blacking out in Ormskirk Hospitals Car Park. The way that both hospitals attended to me was more than I could have wished for. The nurses at Ormskirk were wonderful from my befuddled memory and then once transported to Southport the teams that looked after me gave me back my dignity, treated me with an urgency I could have only have dreamed of and the attention and dedication from all in the Amber Ward I cannot speak highly enough of. I was constantly being checked, tested and recorded and they were all polite, friendly and extremely helpful to both me and my wife. The consultants (I saw at least 2) were superb. The Triage Nurse in charge provided me with the dignity I really needed and the following day came to see me personally. I can't praise everyone who saw to me highly enough. The paramedics were excellent. My only regret is I don't have all the names of who treated me so I could name them all. I cannot complain about any of the staff that treated me and can only say a huge thankyou to all involved.

Review titled I received excellent help
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Joy - Posted on 12 June 2024
A&E now has a good system in place which moves people through more quickly to where they need to be. After Triage I had tests and bloods taken. Once the results were through I then saw a Doctor, was given a diagnosis, medication was administered and I received medication to take home. Throughout the 3.5hours I was there I found all staff to be professional, approachable, knowledgeable, and they clearly explained my diagnosis. They were very busy but weren’t rushed in their manner. The day after I received my follow up clinic appointment for the near future. I’m very happy with my experience
