  1. Review titled Incredibly kind care

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Shirley Ferrie - Posted on 14 June 2024

Although I was incredibly nervous the team settled me in and did their best to make me calm. I was told every step of the way what was happening both by the consultant and anaesthetician. After being wheeled down the anaesthesia staff actually had me laughing, they were wonderful. Both the recovery team and the staff on the ward (Becketts) could not have done more. Amazing care

  2. Review titled Blood tests

Rated 4 stars out of 5

by Amanda Heller - Posted on 04 June 2024

Seen straight away for my appointment. Very clear instructions about logging in and where to go. Lovely phlebotomist, made me feel at ease. She reassured me that they do their best to accommodate every patient. Next time I will use the 30 minute free parking and I feel reassured that if my blood test is urgent I will be seen quickly.

  3. Review titled Blood Test Department

Rated 4 stars out of 5

by John - Posted on 22 May 2024

was very disappointed with the way I was treated by the front of house booking in staff. .on my arrival at the department I explained that I was sent for an urgent blood test by my local gp because of a sudden renal function deterioration ( I am a kidney transplant patient of 17 years). I explained I didn't have a pre arranged appointment, but my gp had marked the blood test forms as urgent. The front of staff said I couldn't have a blood test without an appointment and said there was nothing he could do from his end or from handheld booking in pc tablet. He advised I go back home and make an appointment. I explained that this test was urgent and my gp advised that the dept should be able to fit me in and showed my blood test form. Again, I was told I would need an appointment and they could not do anything without an appointment.  On my way out of the hospital, I noticed my gp had indeed marked my form as urgent and returned to the reception staff to point this out. At this point the member of staff apologised and booked me in on his handheld pc tablet.  Why lie to patients that appointments can't be made on the day using the hospitals front of house systems and shouldn't staff be trying to help patients with urgent medical needs be seen to, instead of finding ways to turn them away.. very disappointed with the lack of help and comparison of the blood test department booking in staff.

  4. Review titled St Albans Blood Test online booking

Rated 3 stars out of 5

by Anne - Posted on 31 May 2024

The online booking service for blood tests continues to be approx. 3 weeks.......which suggests almost a month to await the results (request to GP). Having phoned the helpline I was advised St Albans had a 3 week delay, Hemel, 2 weeks and Watford, 1 week. Is an improvement to the SLA expected going forward to reduce the 'queueing schedule' process ? Thanks

I wanted to thank you for the exceptional care my son received for his injured finger at St Albans City Hospital. The professionalism and kindness of your staff, especially the nurse who treated him, were truly appreciated. Her expertise and compassionate attitude made a significant difference. 8. Review titled Blood test Clinic

Rated 2 stars out of 5

by Simon thwaites - Posted on 28 March 2024

The new system to have a blood test really does not work. Residents are confused on attending the clinic (the blood form makes no reference to needing an appointment, simply listing the clinic opening times as always - what a glaring error that is. I attended without an appointment and had to wait two further weeks as a result. I also had then to change my GP follow up appointment, further wasting everyone’s time. While I was there today (on my appointed date) there were people turning up without appointments and generally members of the public were confused. Also, how is it acceptable for my name to be on a screen along with all the others waiting? It’s nobody’s business in the waiting room who I am. Over all a very poor service and an unworkable system. Everyone involved should be embarrassed.

  9. Review titled Blood sample to be taken

Rated 4 stars out of 5

by Beatrice Clark - Posted on 24 March 2024

I made a mistake with the date of my appointment. The person who seemed in charge was sympathetic, very professional, but most of all extremely helpful in making sure I booked another appointment 10 minutes later. I’ve seen this person in action on previous occasions when there was a long queue generally encouraging patients to prepare themselves by getting their papers ready, coats off etc., this was done with great efficiency, and best of all humour. What a star character. Thank you.

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Jo - Posted on 05 March 2024

Today I had day surgery ( guynae) I arrived and was treated like a princess. It was clean and happy and loving and caring. It was the nicest place ever. The hca and nurses and doctors all of them were unbelievable so shocked it felt like I was in a private hospital as my care was of such a high standard I should have paid for it. Wish they done major surgery there a s I don’t want have it anywhere else thanks everyone for today xxx
