Review titled Fantastic maternity care from 9 weeks to post birth
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Frankie - Posted on 05 September 2024
I can't thank the midwives - especially the Olive Team, MAU and the Home from Home Birth Centre staff - enough for their fantastic care throughout and after my pregnancy. I had a traumatic first delivery at a different hospital. St Thomas took the time to go through my notes from that birth with me, took my mental health extremely seriously and have treated me very much as an individual. Due to hypertension in my previous pregnancy I also had obstetrician appointments and weekly checks in the final few weeks of my pregnancy - although this time my blood pressure was fine. I had a couple of minor complications and MAU were fantastic - I also had an extreme eczema flare up on my face during one visit and they arranged a dermatologist to see me while I was there. At Home from Home I was offered judgement free pain relief and gave birth in a birthing pool, complete with mood lighting and built-in Bluetooth speakers. Our room, which we got to stay in overnight, overlooked the Houses of Parliament. We were discharged by lunchtime the next day. I think the idea of Home from Home might be scary to some, but the midwives are compassionate and keen to make sure you give birth as comfortably as possible - and you're so close to the hospital birth centre that if you need any interventions, you can be transferred quickly and safely. The whole experience was very cathartic - after my first labour, I had to process a lot of trauma and this positive labour genuinely helped me.

Review titled Awful experience
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Iop - Posted on 24 August 2024
Rude nurses with god like syndrome, and even though I went to emergency services still took me 4 hours to be seen by a doctor in training who needed supervisor approval for the given treatment. I went there with excruciating pain and I had to chase things up as nobody will tell you anything, but when I asked "what is the estimated waiting time" the nurse felt offended and became aggressive and said couple of things. Now imagine the same scenario in a hospitality business, how long do you think that those nurses kept their job?

Review titled Needs to be better organised.
Rated 3 stars out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 16 August 2024
I appreciate the strain on the NHS and nobody expects to go to a&e to be in and out within an hour. I fully prepared myself to spend a good 5 or 6 hours there, but 9 hours between entering and leaving is excessive. I was told multiple different things - first doctor saying i had an infection, then hours later being told by another doctor that there was no infection. When questioned she checked and said oh yes there is and said I’d have to come back the next day for antibiotics and would be in the pharmacy. Coming back the next day there was nothing in the pharmacy for me, and I was sent to so many different places to chase up my own prescription, just to be told yet another hours wait. Like I said I appreciate the strain and don’t expect to be seen instantly, but patients should not be having to chase their own prescriptions and pass on information between doctors- this needs to be better communicated. On top of this the state of the a&e department was shocking in comparison to what I have seen before. The lady at the registration desk had her bare foot up on the side rubbing sanitiser between her toes with her hand. The toilets were clogged, there was rubbish all over the floor and there was a pad on the floor by the water machine that was still there 6 hours later. No cleaners to be seen for hours, which for a hospital is appalling. Overall there just needs to be more organisation- the wait is expected but not 9 hours with minimal communication wondering if you have been forgotten about.

Review titled Efficient, consistent and amazing care
Rated 5 stars out of 5

Was apprehensive about taking a family member to A&E yesterday; however, despite the wait - we were seen to. Just appreciative that when we needed help they were supportive, present and professional. From the triage nurses to the Doctors, support staff - everyone was on the ball. Keep up the good work.

It has been five weeks waiting for an x-ray results and nothing until now! My gp said to me to contact the hospital what I did through an email and I heard it was unreported and they would send it to the report team. Still didn’t get it.

Review titled A terrible experience
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 31 July 2024
I suffer from severe chronic pain and can barely walk. I’ve been waiting for an appointment at this supposed centre of excellence pain clinic since last November. I had pinned all my hopes on this appointment. It was my last hope to diminish my pain and possibly recover my mobility. I was seen by someone with zero empathy and a dismissive and unsympathetic manner. He made it perfectly clear that he didn’t want me on the spinal cord clinic pathway and didn’t utter a single kind word. I was deeply traumatised and left the appointment in floods of tears. I cannot express the degree of my disappointment. I’d been battling with depression before this encounter and this was the final straw. I hope I never see that doctor ever again and wouldn’t wish such a horrible experience on my worst enemy.

Review titled high dependency ward end of life care team
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Chloe Williams - Posted on 17 August 2024
I could not thank the nurse’s more who looked after my nan who was placed in the high decency unit and the end of life team they took such great care of her although she could be very difficult when it came to watching her programs. As a 20 year old making very tough decisions for my nan they always ensured i understood everything to great details. I didn’t take any of the nurses name as it was such a difficult time but the australian nurses who looked after my nan was amazing and was there everyday and even sat and spoke to me and my nan and treated her a person instead a patient. There was one nurse who even came into the room with me after my nan had passed away and even hugged me and stayed with me until i had left. The end of life team was amazing and they support me the whole time and made sure i was okay while making very tough decisions and ensure i was taking care of myself during this time. My nan passed away peacefully on 10/06/2024 and she has such great care and i hope the nurses are receiving the praises they deserve as they looked after jenny so much.
