  1. Review titled 19 mo the old emergency

Rated 5 stars out of 5

All the staff are so caring and made me feel like my child was just as important to then as he is to me. Always going above and beyond to make both the patient and parent feel safe and comfortable. Thankyou so much for helping my baby in such a kind and caring way

  2. Review titled Severe abdominal pain episode

    by leathertg37 - Posted on 05 August 2022

I had severe lower left hand side abdominal pain during the night. I took paracetamol and nurofen which had no effect on the pain. I could not get comfortable in any position. I phoned 111 in the morning and then I had a call from my doctors surgery with an appointment. The doctor in the surgery was excellent and he gave me a referral letter to go straight to the Surgical Assessment Ward 15 at Stoke Mandeville. I had my ops done and a blood test. There was a long delay until I was seen by a doctor. They questioned me on my symptoms and then administered painkillers, and said they would come back to me in 5 minutes. Several hours later another doctor called me in to a room. Was not aware that I had already been seen. I’m still waiting to be seen by a senior doctor. I have never felt so invisible and poorly treated in my life. I am very disappointed by my treatment. I hope no one else is treated in this way.

  3. Review titled Lack of follow up

    by castoryr59 - Posted on 16 August 2022

At an appointment with a consultant, where I was told to stop taking a pain killer medication and that a prescription for an alternative would be sent to my doctors surgery. It is now two weeks and that has not happened. Trying to chase this has been so frustrating, nobody picked the phone up, when the automatic telephone system eventually put me to right department. After two days of trying I spoke to a member of staff who said a letter had been sent 13 days after the consultancy, I checked back with my surgery and said they had just received an email but it was a copy of a letter confirming a telephone consultation had taken place over a month ago no prescription. I have now had no pain relief for 2 weeks I am post a major stroke and now in severe pain with no help.

  4. Review titled Paediatric Ward

Rated 1 star out of 5

I came with my daughter last night as she was suffering a fever our first visit to Stoke Mandeville children's ward. I must emphaticise the staff where brilliant especially the front receptionist and the nurses on the ward. what I was most surprised about was the ward itself the waiting room was very dirty with litter and used wipes laying about that where still there when I left 8 hours later. my daughter was seen in the triage nurses room again litter on the bed and floors from previously seen patients laying about surely this is not hygienic. my daughter was then placed in the flamingo bed which had no linen or sheets it took nearly 2 hours for this to arrive to area itself was dirty the tv had thick dust on it the underneath of the bed clearly hadn't been moped in a while as stains on the floor there was a used plaster stuck to the window also. The window itself would not close just opened itself back up as catch was broken. the toilet near the nurses station was in very poor condition also the toilet seat was broken the flush was loose and the hand soap was broken away from the wall. I know this is a temporary ward until the new one is completed but I was a little surprised how dirty it was and poorly maintained. Good points the hospital was very easy to find and sign posted well and car parking was easy and again the staff and doctors where very good.

  5. Review titled Very caring

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Claudia Edwards - Posted on 03 July 2022

I came in today for a colonoscopy and gastroscopy. I had heard terrible stories of how painful these two procedures were and was very nervous. From the moment the first nurse started talking to me, I was put at ease and reassured. Both procedures were explained thoroughly. I cannot remember much from the moment I had the back of my mouth sprayed with local anaesthetic which means that the whole procedure was pain-free. The staff was knowledgeable and incredibly caring and reassuring and I want to thank them all.

  6. Review titled Care is about more than the treatment

Rated 2 stars out of 5

My 81 year old mother spent a total of over 4 hours on site + 2hours return travel for a simple glaucoma laser treatment. Seen quickly for initial check but then 1.5 hours wait with no reason or reassurance, others coming and going. Then had to wait afterwards for ages in the pharmacy for a prescription which presumably she could have been given to take away with her. No coffee/tea machines working. A drink of water only. People coming and going whilst she waited (thank goodness with my father, also in his 80's). To top it all, they had another wait to exit the car park because the machine was not working. They are stressed and exhausted. The actual practitioners are very caring and not at fault - it is the organisational and maintenance systems that create these uncaring and anxiety provoking situations for vulnerable people. Please focus on the little things, mending machines promptly, inviting people for realistic appointment times, not just ignoring people who have clearly been waiting a long time. Patient care is not just about the treatment itself, it is about how someone feels when they are inside the building, and how they feel when they leave. Eighty year old patients should not be spending the whole afternoon in uncomfortable waiting areas with no refreshment and then made to wait again for simple prescriptions and to try to leave a parking area which has probably cost them a great deal for 5 hours parking for a procedure that probably took minutes. Very disappointed.
