So impressed at how efficient and thorough the ophthalmic team have been today. Staff were all friendly, taking time to explain everything and answering all questions. Cannot praise them highly enough.

Review titled Outstanding service
Rated 5 stars out of 5

I've had 5 visits to opthalmology, 3 for emergency Eye care in approx 5 weeks. Each time all the staff I've seen have been friendly and reassuring, some even going out of their way to make sure I was OK to travel for a holiday that I'd had booked for sometime.

Review titled Don't believe the waiting lists they publish
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Ian R - Posted on 11 April 2024
After suffering for over a year, I was finally referred for surgery by my GP on 3rd April 2023. I chased from June (Initial letter said to contact them in June 2023 if I hadn't heard anything) I was told they hadn't even gotten around to looking at my referral yet. I chased several times after this with no joy. I got progressively worse and in October I had to go back to my GP because I couldn't take it anymore. He changed my referral to urgent. I had a phone consultation with the surgeon at the beginning of December and it was agreed that it was urgent...then radio silence. It's now over a year since my initial referral- the MyPlannedCare website says average waiting time for treatment is 20 weeks. What a joke.

Review titled Poor

Hi there, I'd like to start this by saying I'm a huge supporter of the NHS and have huge sympathy for the pressure it is currently under. But My experience at Stoke Mandeville has left me distrusting and really questioning my belief in it. I had an awful 10 hour experience in A&E, not because of the wait time but because of the lack of communication from staff and the unnecessary stress that they made me feel because of that. I was then referred to eye casualty, who made me feel completely un listened to, I explained to the doctor of a genetic eye condition that runs in my family and she told me that it was impossible for my mum to have that condition, even though she is being actively treated for it at Moorfields, I think that is a horrendous thing for a doctor to say. I was booked in for a second appointment for a different test and when I arrived the test had not been booked in, I essentially had the same appointment again with a different doctor who was equally as dismissive and seemed like he had not bothered to read anything on my file and just made me feel awful to be honest. It felt like a complete lack of care and has caused me to lose all confidence in Stoke Mandeville. Again I fully appreciate the pressures that the service is under but already as a nervous, anxious person, this experience has really effected me and I wont be coming back to the hospital.

Review titled Excellent Physiotherapy
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by John Harper - Posted on 08 June 2024
After leaving hospital in April following a fall which resulted in a fracture of the femur neck I was lucky enough to be visited at home by a physiotherapist. I can only say as I find and I have nothing negative to say. The care I received was excellent and through her guidance and exercise regime I am getting back to walking with more confidence. Unfortunately the home visits have now stopped but I cannot praise her enough

Review titled Disappointed
Rated 1 star out of 5

111 referred me to A&E as I had complex issues. They felt I would get all the tests i needed and a better assessment rather than seeing a GP. I waited almost 4 hours to see GP, who did not examine me correctly or didn't listen. Told me I needed to go and see my own GP, to refer me for scans. When I tried to explain, that I had been trying to get through to the practice and couldn't for over a week. He basically said it was, my fault for living in Aylesbury! He made reference to the Grammer school that it brings in to many people! And something about car parks! I was in pain and shocked by his comments. I had to go home in pain, another night of restless sleep with no help from this Doctor.

Review titled Poor a&e
Rated 2 stars out of 5

Second visit in two weeks with my elderly mum. Both visits in excess of 7 hours, which seems to be a common experience. Staff generally kind and helpful, but very little information given and no indication of timescales - just left waiting for hours on end. Lots of people lying on trollies in corridors. Not great.

Review titled Long wait for described symptoms
Rated 3 stars out of 5
by Maureen Worley - Posted on 02 May 2024
Presented with typical heart attack symptoms for a woman.Waited for 6 hours before doctor realised one vital blood test had not been asked for. Then waited another 90 minutes for results that confirmed I had had a heart attack. It was all systems go from then on and had to be blue lighted to Harefield.Lots of vital time wasted

Review titled Adequate but attention to detail needed
Rated 3 stars out of 5
by Mrs Dennis - Posted on 02 April 2024
Whilst we are grateful that our grandson was delivered safely and our daughter recovered from her C-Section. The way in which she was sewn up was a mess. The scar was up and down like a fiddlers elbow and some internal skin protruding from the wound. She will probably have to have further surgery to remove this as it’s affecting her confidence. Her first c section scar was lovely and neat. I wish they could have just taken a little more care. I know they are rushed at getting numbers in and out of theatre and this shows. I’m left disappointed that now my daughter has more appointments looming with 2 young children to care for. Please either take more care or let someone else sew up the patients who is more proficient. Thank you.
