Review titled Upsetting Experience
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 30 March 2023
After seeking medical advise from 111 website which directed us to call 999 which then directed us to A&E, which then it led for us to shouted at by the doctor at the end for wasting his time. I understand that the nurses and doctors are over worked, but there was no need for the doctor's attitude. We were only following instructions, being told what to do by the 111 website.

Review titled Urgent care department - quick, helpful and great service
Rated 5 stars out of 5

Just wanted to say how quick and good the urgent care department were today. We had a fractured knee and we’re seen within 30 minutes of been there and sent for x ray before returning to be seen again. They couldn’t have done enough and the whole process was quick and easy.

Dexcom which is a Continuous Glucose Monitoring system provided to aid better help with controlling my Type 1 Diabetes I have had for 53 years. Nurse explained use very precisely and was very helpful when applied transmitter myself. All staff are very polite and courteous. I was transferred to Sunderland hospital from Durham (at my request) and have found that they are more helpful than I have had before.

Review titled Disappointed

following a bad experience at our dentist (having the needle in the gum for a tooth extraction, my granddaughter aged 6, had waited for quite long time to be put to sleep to have a couple of bad teeth removed. She was a day case, to be there for 12 noon, we got there at 11.30 to make sure we were on time and could get parked. The staff on the ward were exceptional, perfect to be working with children. At 12noon we asked what time will she been seen, apparently everyone is given the same time, the clinic didnt start until 2pm and with her being the oldest child she would be last to go down. She had numbing cream put on the top of both hands with a dressing to keep it there not long after we arrived. So we were told it would be after 4 before she may go down, a very long day, a scared, hungry and fidgety little girl. We met the dentist and anaesthetist, who again we super nice. The anaesthetist explained they would sit her on her mams lap and take her hand around the back and try to get a needle / canula in, but if she doesnt want it fine they wouldnt push it and they will put the mask on her. She went down with my daughter to the theatre, my daughter came back very upset, said it was terrible they tried one hand then the other, my granddaughter was sobbing, trying to get away and shouting for her brother. When she was wheeled back up after the removal of the teeth, she was crying and wanted to go home. We know children forget quick and stop crying in an instant, she did come around a bit but sobbed while eating. Both of her small hands have awful large bruises on for a week. One month later she is telling us never again Nana, you wont ever take me back there. As it is I am taken her to her dentist next week, this it to take the fear away and hoping she will forget. Very disappointed that she would be put through that, yes they tried to put it in one hand, she was very distressed why try again, it wasnt necessary. Everything else about the stay, apart from it being far to long to wait for a little one, not eating from 7am until after 4pm. The Staff fantastic, the method not so good. Thank you for the good job on the operation but not a good experience for my daughter and granddaughter.

Review titled Brilliant from admission to discharge
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Carol Groombridge - Posted on 09 April 2023
I was admitted in 29th March for a knee replacement. The care I received from walking in the door of the admissions unit to discharge from ward D 48 with surgery and recovery in between was second to none. Caring helpful and attentive every step of the way. I was in for a total of 29 hours and felt very confident to go home. Thank you to everyone.

From arriving at a and e by ambulance to leaving the department seven hours later I have been treat with care and compassion. Each member of staff from checking in doctors and nurses and also the domestic were all very pleasant and kept me informed with what was going on. The department was very busy but at no time did I feel rushed and listening to other patient’s conversations I feel everyone was treat the same. I thank you for the care you all showed me whilst in the department. You are all an asset to the NHS

Review titled Poor service
Rated 2 stars out of 5

I attended the hospital for an ultrasound in February and the staff were brilliant, however it was the talk of the place that lots of people hadn’t turned up for their appointment. Sadly I found out why when I had to telephone the Directorate of Diagnostic Imaging. It took a whole hour for anyone to answer the phone. I was told I was number 3 in the queue. I hoped this was unusual, but when I later had to phone back to cancel my appointment sadly it was exactly the same. I then received a letter telling me I’d missed my appointment despite the fact I’d cancelled it. Totally unacceptable. What a waste of money.

Review titled 8 hours wait before assessment, 11 hours in total
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Chris - Posted on 02 April 2023
After a fall at home went to A&E suspecting a broken wrist, and with a large lump on my head and back pains. Arrived at 8pm, booked in and sat until well afer 4am without being assessed. Went to reception three times but got curt response on 2 occasions. On 3rd occasion, not having been seen by anyone seemed to trigger response. After 4am finally assessed and fast tracked to another department for treatment by nurse practitioner, finally leaving hospital at 7am! The wait for assessment was inexcusable considering the pain and possibility of more serious complications. Badly broken wrist confirmed, excellent treatment given once assessed.

Review titled Fantastic Doctors and Nurses

Im currently under investigation with the neurology team at sunderland royal hospital. Im very afraid of needles and needed and lumbar puncture, the neurologist who treated me was extremely understanding and really helped me through the process whilst being patient but also with a sense of urgency to my health. The same Neurologist is uses extremely sensitive language surrounding my mental health and previous issues i’ve had with it in the past, which was lovely to experience as most health care professionals won’t tip toe around the subject and make me feel worse and use triggering language. The Neurology team at Sunderland Royal Hospital are a part of the best health care i’ve ever received and they have saved me from vision loss. I hope the whole team get passed on this message and know how thankful i am for their help and care.
