  3. Review titled Horrendous experience of cancer surgery

by Amazon warrior - Posted on 16 June 2023

From entering this hospital in the early hours of the morning it felt like a factory type production line. It resembled being in a airport but you were simply a piece of luggage. You had to stand beside your hand luggage if you were staying over night. The paperwork was completed by staff who marked you up like a piece of meat. It felt like this is what you were to them. Then you are naked in your dressing gown and marched into surgery. A staff member involved with the surgery asked if they could use my cells or cut off bits for experimentation or research - who knows? I said yes as it wasn't private and I felt under pressure. I then awoke on a hospital bed surrounded by other women. Two had had a hysterectomy, there was constant vomiting in the night. There were only two nurses, one reading a book and the other one who came when the buzzer was pressed. I found it a horrendous experience which I will never erase from my mind. Not the place for major surgery in my view. They want you out the next day asap. It may be ok for small type surgery but not for cancer operations. I found it disgusting and impersonal - no care, just a carrier bag of bandages and dressings and leaflets. Horrendous.

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Neil Parkes - Posted on 16 May 2023

I recently spent time as an in patient on Ward 28. The care and support from all the team here was amazing and nothing was never a problem. They all went above and beyond to make sure myself and everyone else on the ward were receiving the care. The team are friendly. Words cannot express the gratitude I have. The team ( Day and Night shift ) are a credit to the hospital and the NHS Thank You 😃😃

  6. Review titled Professional and friendly experience

Rated 4 stars out of 5

Had a visit to Neuro radiology on the 2/5/23, 10:30am. The nurses and doctor i had my treatment with made me feel very comfortable and relaxed. It was a fairly painful procedure, 4 injections in neck, and the Dr and assistants where really good at putting me at ease. All went well, everything explained in detail and procedure was faultless. Many thanks to all.

  7. Review titled Incomprehensive planning system

Rated 2 stars out of 5

by JEAN PIERRE RIEP - Posted on 06 May 2023

For a weekend visit in England, my partner had a domestic accident resulting in a 7cm and quite deep flesh wound. At arrival, registration and first assessement went quite smoothly and quick. Then, after a more than one hour wait off to another area, with again more waiting. Then, after practically 2hrs, finally a nurse came to have a look at the fleshwound. Get in the consultant, need more examinations. Ok... Then, change of shift of doctors, and when we asked when she would finally be stitched up, the answer was that the computer decided when it would be her turn. If they had only done everything at once it would have been much more efficient and over and done with. Now, we're up to 5hrs of stay in the hospital, with maybe 15 minutes of actual treatment time. We fully understand that emergency departments are overcrowded and understaffed. But this ridiculous "planning" or "treatment" system is not efficient nor helping at all.

  9. Review titled Contacting the department.

Rated 3 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 25 April 2023

No one ever answers the phone. This is shabby and unprofessional. I need assistance with pain management - I can’t sleep, my joints are in constant pain.. I need to know the outcome of tests for services that can help me - tests were completed at the end of 2022 and the beginning of 2023. My symptoms are becoming worse. It is truly depressing to think that I am not the only patient in this situation and some people will have been waiting much longer. The inability to reach the rhumatology department by phone is frustrating and demoralising. Patients need to be able to speak to someone - it’s an essential part of the service. You are letting yourselves and us down James Cook. Get your act together.
