Review titled Contacting the department.
Rated 3 stars out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 25 April 2023
No one ever answers the phone. This is shabby and unprofessional. I need assistance with pain management - I can’t sleep, my joints are in constant pain.. I need to know the outcome of tests for services that can help me - tests were completed at the end of 2022 and the beginning of 2023. My symptoms are becoming worse. It is truly depressing to think that I am not the only patient in this situation and some people will have been waiting much longer. The inability to reach the rhumatology department by phone is frustrating and demoralising. Patients need to be able to speak to someone - it’s an essential part of the service. You are letting yourselves and us down James Cook. Get your act together.

Review titled Well cared for
Rated 4 stars out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 02 November 2023
Throughout my pregnancy, labour, and recovery I felt well taken care of. Pros; supportive staff, fast responses, really friendly, advocated for me and my needs. Members of staff were so supportive with me to take care of my baby, and helped me to get rest when I really needed it. I had a student as well as a midwife in my delivery and they kept me well informed throughout even when they had their medical huddles in my room with other professionals. Cons; I would have liked more input from lactation specialist after birth, but my mind was too scattered to remember they came by once.

Review titled Consultation in a Cupboard
Rated 2 stars out of 5
by Mrs Robinson - Posted on 01 April 2023
As a woman I would expect equal treatment of all genders across a hospital. Indeed after being given a timed appointment in main Out Patients. I duly turned up to find myself ushered into a corridor opposite the toilets and two seats. It got worse when I was ushered into a junk cupboard with literally no space for a chair to sit down. Or a wheelchair, so it's discriminatory towards people with disabilities under the Equality Act (2010). After a consultation of around 7/8 mins women are despatched with what cancer services describe a a "bespoke" prosthesis. The items are unwearable and as one nurse who had breast cancer herself described as so heavy to wear. You would get a back injury after only a few hours. The bras weren't much better with straps so wide in order to hold up these heavy lead like items that belong in the 1970/80s. What a waste of money, and insult to women of all ages. Come on James Cook hospital what decade or century or we in?

Review titled Great Hospital Lousy Parking
Rated 2 stars out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 08 March 2023
Trying to find disabled parking anywhere is impossible, people parking on double yellow and red lines blocking the way. Took over 30mins to find a space nowere near where I needed to be. Being mobility impaired I found this very stressful and painful. Bad news I have to do it again tomorrow so two 70 mile round trips to have a heart monitor fitted and returned. A simple proceedure my local GP could easily have done or my local hospital (University of Durham) which is a 5min drive with plenty of accessible parking. Please sort out the parking, every car park is overflowing onto the roadways. I would never come here again given the choice.

Review titled No specialist nurses available
Rated 2 stars out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 16 March 2023
There are never any specialist Breast cancer nurses available by appointment or telephone. Only pamphlets given by Consultants to take the place of actual cancer nurses. Patients are cast adrift without the proper assistance required. Male consultants believe a nurse can be outsourced by a leaflet or helpline number to a charity? Ridiculous.
