  1. Review titled Lovely staff

Rated 5 stars out of 5

    by Cissy Elkin-Pybus - Posted on 04 December 2024

I was sent to the same day emergency unit by my consultant due to headaches and concerns about an infection. The woman doctor who seen me was absolutely lovely, explained everything very clearly. All tests were thorough and helped to talk through any concerns. The two doctors who done my lumbar puncture were amazing also. Any nerves I had were talked through and was explained the very slim risks, and it ended up being a really good experience. Nicest hospital I’ve been to, such amazing staff.

  2. Review titled Awful

Rated 3 stars out of 5

by Jill Gregory - Posted on 27 November 2024

After 2 short tests waited 2 hours to see Dr. Her hands were cold and she was rough. I had told her beforehand that my eye lids were hypersensitive to touch: she managed to only get one pressure reading. The nurse did it with no trouble. More wait 1.5 hours to get drugs from pharmacy. They didn't have 0.5 ml vials for prednisolone drops. I find the 10ml bottles difficult and unsafe to use. I have to self medicate. Luckily my GP sent a script to my local pharmacy: I am a medic and the GP knows me. Should have a drinks machine. A board with waiting times. All Drs should have warm hands. The Prof and the Dr stood in the corner and chatted about treatment excluding me. Shared care? [Plus I had 1.5 hour wait for patient transport and had to be ready 2 hours before transport from home.] I also had a Sept appt. It was cancelled: no reason given and no date for a future one. I got the above appt with the help of PALS. I have other significant problems. Dr could not answer my question: were the oral drugs I was taking have affected my eye dryness? She didn't ask what they all were even or the dosage. I have a much higher dose of Morphine than perhaps the norm.

  5. Review titled Emergency same day care unit

Rated 4 stars out of 5

by Sophie - Posted on 02 October 2024

Came in to the A&E department after going to rake lane walk in Sunday evening after suffering with migraines for 11/12 days rake lane told me to go to cramlington emergency but came to Newcastle, I was extremely scared and in a lot of pain with my head throbbing for so long and nothing I was taking for it was working. They told me to go straight down to emergency care from the a&e where a ambulance helped me outside to go down as I was feeling dizzy and sick and very upset, all the staff whilst being on the unit looked after me well giving me a CT scan of my head and putting me on a drip as I was dehydrated, blood tests & urine sample, the doctor was lovely and caring towards me giving me painkillers to take and some to take home and have 48hrs rest, if I continued vomiting and the migraines came back to please come back to a&e and may need further tests done at the neurology or headache clinic. still feeling exhausted and poorly but have been told to come back if it continues. Hoping the treatment I have had resolves this and rest :(

  7. Review titled Wonderful care and practice

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 21 September 2024

My son recently broke his humerus and needed surgery. He recovered in Ward 23 and couldn’t have been more cared for. He suffers with OCD and the staff were so understanding and nothing was a bother. My heartfelt thanks go out to the lovely nurses, physio, consultant, anaesthetist and carers who helped with his care. My son was extremely anxious about taking any kind of drug but the nurses calmly explained the medicine needed in terms of pain relief and why it was necessary and how it would help over and over again. This really helped with his anxiety which was through the roof as you can imagine. He even said himself he has conquered his fear of hospitals now. All the nurses were amazing and deserve a shout out. Thank you.

  8. Review titled Outstanding Endoscopy staff

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Helen - Posted on 27 September 2024

I must praise the amazing staff in the Endoscopy Department for the excellent service that I received today. I was admitted as an outpatient for sigmoidoscopy and everyone from the reception staff to the lovely staff member who made me a cup of tea were exceptional. The procedure (although not pleasant) was in a very relaxed environment, thanks to cheerful and friendly staff members who were extremely reassuring. Having had failed endoscopies previously, today was a new experience thanks to the skill and expertise of the Endoscopist and supporting staff. I was put at ease immediately and both relieved and happy that the procedure was able to be carried out. I really can't thank the team enough.

  9. Review titled Eye Outpatients

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Chris Elizabeth Clarkson - Posted on 09 September 2024

Macular problems have reduced my vision and consequently restricted a lot of activities and general getting around. I anticipated my appointment at the outpatients would be to start a plan to maybe control the condition and slow down any further deteriation. This is going ahead, however what I did not expect was to walk out a couple of hours later with a lot of vision restored. I was advised part of my poor vision was down to past cataract surgery and laser treatment should help with this. I was able to get laser treatment the same day and cannot quite believe what an improvement this has made to my sight. My world is so much brighter and issues with blurred and foggy images have gone. When I walked into the centre that morning I could not see clearly anything past a metre in front of me, coming out I could identify my lift, and read the car registration from metres away, the results were that quick! Overall I think seen three consultants on that day, I know they cannot be named but hope they get to know they have given me such a quality of life back a big thank you is not enough. My world had become so insular and now I am back out re-visiting as many places as possible now I can see them again. Massive Thanks to all.
