  1. Review titled Fantastic staff

Rated 5 stars out of 5

    by Alison K - Posted on 03 November 2023

I was taken by Ambulance to A&E following a hip fracture whilst on a weekend away in York. The Ambulance staff were lovely and one even came back to find me at the end of his shift to see how I was. Care in A&E was very good and every member of the team so caring and kind. Was admitted and had to undergo replacement hip surgery. Most of my stay was on Ward 15 and I have nothing but praise for the nurses, health care assistants, cleaners etc each of whom was friendly and cheerful which means alot when you are along way from home and feeling very vulnerable. The surgical team including the anaesthetist kept me fully informed about the timing of the operation and the best choice for me. I'm now on my way back to Surrey to recover thanks to everyone at York Hospital.

  2. Review titled Felt comforted and informed at all times

    by Sj12 - Posted on 12 October 2023

Absolutely brilliant unit, always so friendly and caring. I’ve had to have 2 scans in the last two weeks and the nurse and sonographer on both occasions were amazing. Luckily, we had the outcome we wanted and just wanted to say how comforted and informed we felt at all times. Thank you!

  3. Review titled The care I received from all the staff was amazing

    by cheetahtk64 - Posted on 13 November 2023

I was admitted having had chest pains on train and thought it was heart burn but it didn’t go away and got worse. I was on my way to north of Scotland and had to get off train at York. Train station staff called for ambulance. Lovely paramedics took me in even though ECG didn’t indicate a heart attack but blood test at hospital did. Miles away from home and travelling on my own, it was very stressful to be told I’d had a heart attack but from start to finish the care I received from all the staff was amazing. I stayed in CCU unit overnight and was taken downstairs for an angiogram in the morning and a stent was fitted successfully. I felt so much better afterwards and was discharged the following day. Thank you to all. I will never forget you. I wish I had all your names to mention but special mention to Laura, staff nurse who spent a lot of her time with me on my last day there answering all my questions and giving me some food from the cafe to take on long journey home to Kent.

  4. Review titled Excellent care

by JoyG - Posted on 23 November 2023

I would like to express my deepest appreciation for the excellent care I have received from the eye clinic recently. I had a yellow card from a previous visit to the clinic, which meant I was able to contact the clinic directly when I experienced new symptoms. I did this and was seen on the same day. In that visit alone, I was helped by five staff members and they were, without exception, professional, kind and knowledgeable. I was diagnosed with a detached retina and scheduled for surgery for the very next day. This kind of urgent access to care is essential to avoid very bad outcomes (including loss of vision) and I am so grateful that I live in a country where such prompt treatment is possible. On the day of treatment I was again supported by multiple excellent health professionals, including a theatre nurse who was particularly excellent at making me feel calm and looked after in the lead-up to the procedure (which was anxiety-provoking as it was under local anaesthetic). The theatre team were equally good at making me feel able to cope with being awake for the procedure and I appreciated that way in which both the surgeon and the ophthalmologist provided clear information in advance of the procedure. The nurse who looked after me in the recovery room was also very reassuring before and after treatment. Since then, I've had a couple of concerns about my eye and have, again, been very impressed by the fact that I could ring the clinic to get advice. This has included reassurance over the phone and one additional appointment to be sure the pressure in my eye was normal. I really want to thank the entire team for doing such a great job. I know they must see thousands of people and yet I've never been made to feel like just a number or that I'm being a bother with my many questions and concerns.

  5. Review titled Ignorant,Arrogant,uncaring staff.

Rated 1 star out of 5

My son went to A&E, because he was feeling so ill. He was checked over apparently and told that he had to leave as he was not going to have anything further done. A nurse told him to leave as he sat trying to work out how to get home, she told him it wasn't her problem he was stranded. He asked in reception if he could sit there until he found a way to get home. Security came along and were aggressive towards him,it's not a dose house for druggies and drunks apparently,my son was neither. My son could barely walk,he was so unwell. He managed to get home eventually. My son found out he had cancer on the 23rd of December 2023, he passed away on the 6th January 2024. I just wanted to thank all the staff that dealt with him when he attended York Hospital. Well done for spotting the cancer.I have lost my lovely, unoffensive son, I already lost my eldest son and my husband, so have no one now.

  7. Review titled A mix

Rated 1 star out of 5

I experienced a very warm welcome from the desk staff, who directed me where to go. They were polite and friendly. Upon meeting the staff member who was to be providing me with my pain management help, I immediately got the sense that I was unwelcome - that I was wasting their time. They were visibly irritated about something; I couldn't figure out if it was me, or not. We briefly discussed the various serious health issues that I've been through. I nearly died earlier this year. I wasn't there for a shoulder to cry on, but I expected at least a flicker of human warmth. Nothing. Zero empathy throughout. I was then told to go, apparently there was nothing they could do - they didn't have to tell me twice. Suffice to say, I won't be coming back!

  9. Review titled Great care

    by empathyrz45 - Posted on 08 September 2023

I used 111 online after feeling wheezy and unable to take deep breaths. A nurse rang me back and made me an appointment at the out of hours GP at the hospital. After concerns of it potentially being a blood clot I was transferred to SDEC where further tests and treatment were provided. Everyone throughout the whole process was very friendly and kept me informed (Gp, SDEC, X-ray, CT scan etc). They worked hard to fit me in with the CT scan that evening to save me coming back the following day despite this being the handover time which I really appreciate. I would like to pass on my thanks to everyone involved in my care.

  10. Review titled Exceeded expectations

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Ayse - Posted on 16 September 2023

I was a walk in who came by car from Malton to York. The ED was very busy with ambulances queuing at the doors. I was registered immediately and asked to wait. The waiting time to see a doctor was displayed as 8 hours. Within 10 minutes I was triaged by the nurse and given a tetanus injection. The doctor came and stitched up a deep gash to my knee and well within an hour of me arriving at York Hospital, I was on my way home. Thank you to the receptionist, nurse and doctor who were clearly very busy but efficient and caring.
