I was taken by ambulance to Torbay Hospital with pains coughing and a very high temperature. The care they gave me was first class everything was explained on the journey i was taken into casualty seen within 30 mins. assessment done then taken to a room on my own i was checked regularly. the next day was taken to a ward same level awaiting a bed on a ward, that eve i was taken to Midgely ward where i spent the next 11 days with a nasty case of pneumonia. i have only have praise for the staff there they were amazing. They all did a wonderful job day and night staff included.

  2. Review titled Outstandingly kind

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Tessa Smith - Posted on 26 November 2022

I was totally humbled by the positive experience I had in the Breast Care Unit. Every person showed kindness over and beyond what is expected. From remembering my preferred name to understanding my grief at the loss of a loved sister a few days before, I am deeply indebted to them all. You hear nothing but negatives about the NHS so I was quite shocked at how I was treated with warmth and professionalism. Another feature of the experience was the impressive clarity of the procedures. They took the time to explain to me what was going to happen, why and how. That removed a lot of the fear and there was always a hand to hold. If anyone reads this facing their own treatment, rest assured you couldn’t be in better hands. Thankyou doesn’t seem to be enough.

  3. Review titled Very grateful

Rated 5 stars out of 5

My elderly mum was taken ill on a bus yesterday whilst out shopping. An ambulance was called & she was taken to Torbay Hospital. I’m so very grateful to all who cared for her. From the time she spend in the ambulance to when I collected her this morning. I would like to say “Thank you” to the paramedics in the ambulance & all the staff in A & E who looked after her & made sure she was okay.

  4. Review titled Poor dementia care

Rated 3 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 15 November 2022

My mum was brought in on an emergency from a care home. Paramedics and A & E were lovely and considerate to both my mum and myself, but when she was moved to Allerton Ward, the experience went right down hill. The staff were not dementia friendly and her needs were largely ignored. I remained with her the majority of time and she was left in sodden pads resulting in a wet bed. I notified when she needed to toilet multiple times but she was told to just wee in the bed. Throughout the day, not once did they check her pads or change her. This distressed her greatly with what was already a very frightening experience for her. I notified them that she needed prompting and encouragement to eat and drink, yet they did nothing, despite saying they were concerned she hadn't eaten or drank anything. I helped her and slowly she started to eat and drink again! Luckily she was only there 2 days, but I was appalled at the lack of care and support. All staff should be dementia friendly trained and understand their needs. It would of been so much worse if I hadn't been there to help and hold her hand!!! In some areas this hospital excels, but in this area, they are very poor!

  5. Review titled Lovely kind staff

Rated 5 stars out of 5

Although the pressures on the NHS are extreme and the wait time was to be expected, the care I received from the triage nurse, HCA and nurse practitioner was fantastic. I was kept informed of the next step at all times and really felt listened to. Triage nurse had a great sense of humour. The catering and reception staff were also lovely. I know things are tough but just wanted to say very impressed with the department and thank you all!
