  1. Review titled Abysmal Clerical Staff - Good Clinical Staff

Rated 4 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 16 January 2023

Went to Minor Injuries Unit and filled out the paperwork which the abrupt receptionist then went and lost. After waiting for 2 hours in pain and discomfort, getting frustrated at not even having an initial assessment, I spoke to the receptionist who said I wasn't on the list and they couldn't find my paperwork. The NHS is at breaking point, but treating a job like a social club really doesnt help it cope. With virtually no apology was then left to wait another 30 minutes before an assessment that probably should have happened at least 60-90 minutes earlier. I then heard the receptionist have the gall to say they had been rushed off their feet and it was manic - when they had been chatting about holidays and with colleagues most of the time I was in there. I appreciate that the NHS is underfunded and for the work involved pay low wages. There is not a simple, cheap, quick fix to help it either. Fixing the chatting coffee machine culture, when there is work to do or check work already done would help. And it would have gone a little way to minimising the pain and discomfort I was kept in through someone not doing their job properly. The clinical staff were really nice, helpful and good at their jobs, they were in my case just let down by clerical colleagues.

  3. Review titled Extremely Disappointing

Rated 1 star out of 5

by iolapade - Posted on 06 December 2022

I was sent to A&E by 111 as I could not breathe and had chest pain. I went to A&E and was greeted by the rudest receptionist imaginable who told me it would take 9 hours to see a doctor. I was eventually checked in and went into the waiting room. After waiting there for an hour with no hope of seeing a nurse or doctor any time soon, i started to feel extremely light headed and felt that I couldn’t breathe at all. I was very visibly ill. I went to the reception to voice my concerns and was turned away and dismissed. As I walked to go to the toilet I eventually blacked out and collapsed, hitting my head and thigh on the way down. I woke up being attended to by paramedics who happened to be in the corridor, who assessed me and found that I was stable. I then heard the receptionist talking with one of the nurses loudly stating that I was “faking” it and I simply just fell for attention. I was sickened and shocked that a professional would ever say anything like that. I was then attended to by one of the nurses who insisted that I stood up less than a minute after I collapsed. She did not offer to help me stand, did not ask if I was okay. Just rudely told me to stand up. 2 hours later I was finally called into triage where my blood pressure and temperature was checked. I am a young, healthy woman, however my blood pressure was 170/120. This is very abnormal for me and should really be classed as an emergency as it is hypertension. My temperature was also high. I was sent back to wait in the waiting room. an hour and a half later I was called to take my blood and take an ECG. I waited until 7am and was not called and not even acknowledged, all while I was struggled to breathe. I felt extremely uncomfortable being under the care of nurses who obviously did not believe that I was in distress and would constantly dismiss me, so I eventually decided to go home. Writing this almost 8 hours later, I am still struggling for air and can’t breathe properly but honestly at this point I’d rather suffer in silence than go back to that shambles of a department. The waiting room is tiny, there’s no actual separate rooms when your going for obs and ecg’s, there’s just a thin curtain that separates you and the rest of the waiting room. There was only 1 nurse and 1 HCA doing obs and triage, which is absolutely ridiculous and honestly probably unsafe.

  4. Review titled Excellent care

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Roxanne - Posted on 23 December 2022

I was told to come here for wisdom tooth removal and abcess that was on half my face. So painful and swollen. I was given a bed on a ward the 1st day. X-ray done. And the next morning my symptoms got worse and was given an early morning appointment for operation. The surgeon was very reassuring and I had plenty of staff around I felt I could reach out to if I needed it. I was on sau22 then moved to day surgery. I spend about 24 hours here and the nurses always checked on me and made sure I was ok. I was offered alternate food as I couldn't eat. And help if it was needed. The hospital seems under staffed but the staff that was there was amazing. Thank you for helping me

  5. Review titled Thank you Day Surgery department!

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 09 December 2022

I was admitted for day surgery for a wisdom tooth removal yesterday and the care I received was great. My admission was swift and easy, the nurses were very friendly although they were obviously very busy. My surgeon was reassuring prior to the operation and did a great job with minimal trauma to the area. It is obvious that the NHS is under pressure for beds as this seemed to be a common worry for the nurses on the ward and it is clear that more staff members are needed, however they do a great job regardless of their understaffing and I will be supporting the nursing strikes later this month. My only downfall would be it would have been nice to have had a conversation with the surgeon post operation prior to discharge regarding the success of my procedure, I know they are very busy but this would have set my mind at rest a little more. All in all my experience was very positive so thank you to all of the staff who were working on the Day Surgery ward yesterday.

I was referred to the Dept of Nuclear Medicine for a full body bone scan. This involves a visit of around four hours, and as I have mobility problems the staff ‘went the extra mile’ to ensure I was as comfortable as possible.

  7. Review titled A prompt and good service

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Pat watson - Posted on 18 November 2022

I visited the minor injuries unit at 9am Thursday morning and I was assessed immediately. I needed an X-ray and I was taken down to the X-ray dept straight away where I was immediately dearth with. I was taken back to the MIU and the staff explained the results to me ensuring I understood the X-ray would be reported on by a radiologist to ensure nothing had been missed. I was then given advice and support. The whole service was very good.

  8. Review titled Wonderful staff in Endoscopy unit

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 03 November 2022

All the staff are very caring and go out of their way to reassure patients. Every procedure was explained clearly and I felt looked after at every stage. I’ve been here several times and this last appointment was much better than ones a few years ago. The waiting and recovery areas are gender specific and comfortable. I feel much less anxious for my next visit now

  9. Review titled Very good Department

Rated 5 stars out of 5

My husband attended Rheumatology today. The lady doctor was marvellous. Explained everything to him. She was thorough with a lovely manner. Hope she reads this review. I do wish we could name the consultant when they are so good. I have previously remarked before, shame other departments are not the same.
