Review titled Terrible experience at orthopaedics
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Esther - Posted on 03 November 2023
I was given an ‘urgent referral’ to orthopaedics by the advanced practitioner physio. The appointment was in 10 months time and when it did come round it was a complete waste of time. The doctor did not take a thorough case history or listen to me, he did not fully examine me. He lacked listening skills and empathy. I found him very patronising and condescending. He was not able to give me a care plan and fobbed me off. The reason the advanced practitioner physio had referred me to orthopaedics is because I had already privately been doing physio, having manual therapy and a paid for a hydrodilation, none of which had helped significantly. She felt given those circumstances she wanted the opinion of orthopaedics who unfortunately fell very short. The appointment was a complete waste of time. I’ve had plenty of bad NHS experiences but this one definitely surpasses them all.

I had to visit Paediatric A&E with my very poorly 2 year old granddaughter on Wednesday evening. We were triaged and received care swiftly by very caring staff. She is now much better and I would like to thank all staff involved.

Review titled Excellent treatment
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Elaine - Posted on 03 September 2023
I attended A & E after a fall and received excellent treatment from a doctor and nurse. I didn't have too long to wait considering the problems in the NHS at the moment. Every care was taken to treat my injuries and relieve the pain. X-rays were taken before and after treatment to make sure it had been successful. Everything went very smoothly from entering the hospital to leaving armed with antibiotics. I would like to thank all those concerned.

Review titled Great experience - Coloscopy

by PRIYA - Posted on 24 August 2023
The staff (whom I am not able to name here, hs & f.k) made me feel very comfortable. Both very warm and asked me what they could do to help me relax during the procedure. They also had a relaxing picture of a garden in the ceiling above the treatment chair, a very nice touch. Thank you

Review titled Poor standards of care and professional practice
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 19 August 2023
I have the displeasure of visiting this hospital several times over the week. The NHS is under pressure and staff are leaving and cherry ward would be a perfect example of how those that remain are so lacking in basic manners and empathy you wish you could wave a magic wand and cure yourself to escape. Imagine hearing those words from a relative just admitted to cherry ward. I visited myself and witnessed first hand lack of simple manners eg hi, poor practice eg staff not bothering to wash handing or change apron between patients. That’s simple infection control. Staff on their phones, staff ignoring patient alarms or attending and telling them to do things for themselves. Horrible experience to witness as a visitor when your loved one is under the care of staff at Cherry ward.

Please accept our apologies for the behaviour of the staff on Cherry ward, and the poor standard of care received by your relative and witnessed by you. Please be assured that we take your comments very seriously and the ward sister and I have had meetings with the staff to make them aware of your concerns. We are monitoring staff behaviour and attitude and reminding them daily of the importance of delivering compassionate care. A project focusing on compassionate care will be commencing soon and all staff will be involved in this. If you have any further concerns please contact our Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) on 020 8333 3355 or pals.lewisham@nhs.net. Kind regards Matron, Cherry Ward

Review titled Kind and caring
Rated 4 stars out of 5
by Ulka O’Brien - Posted on 05 August 2023
My dad went to A&E with a suspected stroke and the care he got from all the staff there was amazing. Despite being extremely busy and working long shifts and under huge pressure, the triage nurse and the A&E nurses and doctors ensured that he was well looked after and got all the tests and scans that he needed. They were all so kind and thorough and admitted him as an inpatient for further tests, explaining to us exactly what was happening and why which was very reassuring. The staff on Hawthorn ward were also amazing and we cannot thank them all enough for the kindness, care and treatment he received whilst in hospital. Before discharge the doctor explained the treatment plan and what follow up care he would get in detail and we are so grateful. NHS staff are truly special people who go above and beyond every day, doing their best to help patients in an underfunded service and in very difficult and challenging conditions. You all deserve a massive pay rise as you are one of the country’s most valuable assets. Thank you!

Review titled Very bad organised

I had vascular surgery to remove a cloth from my vein. On the first examine I was given a date but not a hour. I was told the hospital would contact me to give me exact hour but this never happen. I needed to call twice to finally arrange it. On the day of the operation I came in the hospital 30 min earlier. I used to wait 4 hours for this operation in cold room , dressed in a tiny nighty they gave me, provided with a tiny blanket which helped nothing siting on an old uncomfortable chair. 4 hours are turturing in this conditions.

Dear patient Thank you for your feedback. We are sorry that your experience wasn’t as you had expected, this is not the service we aim to provide to our patients. The Vascular theatre lists run with a high volume of patients that are advised to arrive at different intervals throughout the day. Unfortunately, is hard for the surgeon to predict the exact timings per procedure, as each individual case is unique and may experience complications on the day which can cause the list to overrun. The surgeon reviews and consents the patients booked into the session prior to proceeding to theatre to ensure that the list runs continuously, however you should have been made to feel comfortable in the waiting area. We are sorry that you had such significant delays on the day of your procedure and that the conditions in the waiting area were not satisfactory. We will make enquiries regarding the temperature of the waiting area to ensure that patients are made to feel comfortable prior to surgery. We would like to thank you for your feedback as this helps us to improve the service we provide to our patients. Kind regards Service Manager, General Surgery

Review titled Go the extra mile, not
Rated 4 stars out of 5

The unit I attended was the Ambulatory Care Unit. Two of the reception staff sat and looked at their mobiles for 75% of the time I was there. I could clearly see them and their work stations as I was sitting only a few steps away. From when I was admitted at approx 11am until 1.30pm when I left, both staff members sat gazing at their mobiles doing very little computer work or interaction with patients. One of them a woman chatted and laughed with staff with her mobile in her hand. Very unprofessional. The rest of the staff and my consultant were brilliant. Nursing staff tried to help as much as possible but it was obvious these members of the reception staff were not doing much at all other than surfing their Facebook accounts.

Dear patient Thank you for your feedback. I have shared and discussed this incident with my team and would like to apologise sincerely for the behaviour of those two staff members. This is very unprofessional and I have reiterated that phones must only be used at break times. I am glad that your experience otherwise was positive. Kind regards Ambulatory care unit manager
