  1. Review titled Great Service

Rated 5 stars out of 5

    by A Ahmed - Posted on 09 December 2022

I would like to begin by giving a special thank you to the midwife who looked after me from when I arrived at the hospital and until I gave birth. She was professional, calm, reassuring ,friendly and a great asset to the NHS and hospital midwifery team. I would also like to give a special thank you to the trainee midwifes who assisted , they also were very supportive and helped me tremendously. They will be great midwives in the future . The midwife team overall was outstanding and very hard working. Everyone working in the department was polite, friendly, reassuring and professional. I required an assisted delivery and would also like to give a special thank you to the surgical team, the nurses and all the members of staff who assisted . Their professionalism was outstanding.

  2. Review titled Lonely and Unknown

Rated 2 stars out of 5

by Samantha - Posted on 10 March 2023

I have birth to my daughter at Watford Hospital and had to have a c-section. My daughter and I both got an infection and had to stay in after care for a few days. No one showed me where any of the amenities were and no one told me anything that was going on. I just kept getting woken up to be given medication which I had no idea what it was for. I'd get introduced to a midwife and told she was caring for me just for it to be a different person every time. No one kept me informed on what was going on and any time I asked for help I felt like I was being a burden. I was left one night holding my baby trying to feed her whilst also trying to hold in my cannula which was coming out and no one came around regular enough to help, I didn't have a spare hand to call anyone to help and was left crying and unable to move, once someone did come round they told me they would go get another midwife and I was left waiting ages yet again and she didn't even take the baby off me so I could at least free up one of my hands. One night my daughter just wouldn't sleep unless I held her and I was fighting to stay awake until my husband could come visit in the morning, my husband had to then tell them to leave me alone and let me rest. My husband then had to keep chasing midwives around to get me released from the hospital. I kept getting told I was being taken off antibiotics only for another midwife to come round and keep given them to me. My cannula kept getting taped up and then another midwife would put it in again and another one would tape it up again. No one communicated with each other or me. It was very daunting as a first time mum.

I cannot thank the A&E, CCU, Pharmacy and AC Ward staff for their excellent care, dedication and professionalism. The personal attention they give to patients , all with a positive and friendly manner, is second to none. I've not been to Watford previously and feel confident in saying you're in very good hands

  4. Review titled Excellent Treatment

Rated 5 stars out of 5

    by Mr R M Ross - Posted on 23 October 2022

I had an eye examination earlier yesterday that suggested I had a potentially serious condition called Temporal Arteritis. I rang NHS111 and an appointment was made at the Urgent Treatment Centre at 5.30 yesterday afternoon. I arrived a little early and by 6pm I had blood samples taken. There was a four hour wait for the results of the blood tests and to speak to a Doctor, but that is a sign of the pressure under which the staff are working. At 10pm my Optician’s diagnosis was confirmed, medication administered and a treatment plan drawn up by the resident Consultant. I cannot praise enough the care I was given and the way in which all the staff I met treated me. They are working under tremendous pressure and I want to thank them all - well done! However, a complaint! The mens urinal and wash hand basin in the Urgent Treatment Centre were taped off and out of action and the lock on the toilet cubicle was missing. In a hospital where basic hygiene is a high priority this is just not good enough!!!

Thank you for taking the time to leave this feedback, it is great to hear you have had a great care experience. It is very pleasing to read how well you were looked after from beginning to end and that all the staff that you met treated you with care and comfort. We will of course share your very kind words with the team. Regarding the toilets in the urgent care, I will make sure the team knows of this and investigate.

  6. Review titled Poor behaviour

I was sent to the hospital for an X-ray and informed it was a walk in service. I went to the department and the female at the counter said has it been vetted I replied I do not know I was told by the GP you could walk in, and I asked what to do and she was then raising her voice and saying you have to get it vetted with no help. I left and telephoned another local hospital and drove their and had an X-ray straight away. I then went to the same department for a scan in January and this time I was waiting whilst the person carried on making a personal phone call. Now the reason for the review, last week a friend went to the X-ray department and was sent by their Gp and was told it needed vetting. They asked why and was told it was lunchtime at 11:55 and would take hours. They waited and within 20 minutes the X-ray was carried out. What behaviour is this, if you go there a bit down and vulnerable it’s going to be a bad day.

  7. Review titled Caring staff in A & E

    by appletonk02 - Posted on 27 October 2022

I spent 6 hours in A&E last Saturday night. The receptionist was lovely as I felt dizzy when checking in. I was seen immediately by a registered nurse and health care assistant who were professional, kind , introduced themselves and explained what they were doing. On the down side, I then had to sit in a really uncomfortable chair for nearly 6 hours which with a high blood pressure and heart rate and also post hip replacement was very painful. I was told there was nowhere else for me to go. I had to ask what the wait time before seeing a doctor which was 6 hours. The ladies toilet was really dirty and the floor was awash so I found another one outside the department. It would have been helpful to kept informed about the wait time as I would have sent my husband home earlier ( he was waiting in the car park ) In the morning I was seen by an advanced nurse practitioner who was obviously very experienced, she was very professional and thorough. She was also kind and non judgemental. Overall, great care by the staff but facilities could do with an improvement.

I came in with a friend who had been referred by her doctor. Met by very helpful receptionist. Seen after about half an hour and then had to wait for a blood test result. Doctor and nurses all very helpful and i cant praise her treatment enough. She even had a follow up call from Herts Care a few days later asking if she needed any further assistance.

Referred same day by GP. to Watford Accident & Emergency. Despite long wait I had tests and was admitted to Green Bay for further tests. 5 days later I had a pacemaker fitted in the morning and discharged in the evening.I cannot thank everyone enough for giving me an extra lease of life. I very much appreciate the excellent care given to me by all the staff doctors and consultants in A&E and Cardiology.
