  1. Review titled Amazing Care

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Mrs Laura Rouse - Posted on 11 March 2024

My son, in his early 40s was rushed to the hospital via ambulance from Hemel walk-in centre. He was immediately admitted to the resus centre as he was very ill with pneumonia. We couldn't fault the care he received. Intravenous antibiotics plus an oxygen mask had a wonderful effect. His grey pallor gradually returned to his normal skin tone. I would also like to mention their care of my daughter May 2023. Having been in another hospital where they dismissed her condition, and a private hospital where the useless Doctor refused to admit she needed an urgent scan, the Watford team was first class after she was admitted by ambulance. A scan revealed a growth in her bowel which was removed the following day by the second excellent team. The growth was cancerous, she was referred to the excellent onconolgy team. After treatment at Mt Vernon, she is slowly recovering from her traumatic experience. Well Done Watford!! Your staff deserve every penny they can get from this penny pinching government.

  2. Review titled Accident and Emergency experience with a 93 year old

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Sue - Posted on 12 February 2024

I attended Accident and Emergency with my frail 93 year old mother, who is diabetic, partially sighted, needs the assistance of a frame to walk, and very deaf. She normally lives alone with the support of carers 2-3 times a week, and I happened to be visiting from the north of England, due home that day. She had caught her arm on the bed, tearing a 3cm strip of skin off, which needed steristrips and the combined efforts of two nurses to bring the edges together. The extent of the injury was beyond what I could deal with at home without any equipment, and I thought her doctor's practice would refuse to see her, so we came straight to Accident and Emergency. Although she was seen for initial assessment within 15 minutes, we had to wait 5 hours for her treatment. In this time my mother refused to drink anything because she doesn't like using public toilets, and at no stage were we given any indication that it would have been this long. My husband could have gone away to do something useful if he'd known, but having found the signage to the Accident and Emergency dept so bad, and having found a place to park, he didn't dare leave the car because he thought we might be out soon. During our wait numerous people came in and were seen first, mostly considerably younger than my mother, apparently because they had made an appointment by calling 111. I didn't know that was possible for an injury like this, and I felt that the lack of attention to my elderly mother during this long wait, sat on hard metal seating, with no member of staff coming to check on her, was unacceptable. When she did eventually receive treatment, multiple steristrips and a dressing, with instructions to soak them off in 12 days, no spare dressing was given, and no arrangement to contact her doctor for follow up was made. Her blood sugar was not checked. I had to buy spare dressings for her on the way home because blood was already oozing through the dressing. I am a retired General Practitioner, and I feel that the level of treatment she received, and the time taken to be seen (which I gather is not unusual) was unacceptable. The poor signage for people unfamiliar with the hospital layout who wanted to drop someone elderly off by car (my husband eventually found the Accident and Emergency drop off point) was below the standard that I would expect, and disorientating.

  3. Review titled Rude staff

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 30 January 2024

I was booked in for a CT scan and I do suffer from claustrophobia. I went in to the scanner feet first and as I went in to the circle I began to panic and had to get out . The lady was understanding and trying to explain to me what was happening. Another lady who I think was operating the scan then came in and more or less said that the scan could have been done by now as had already taken 10 mins and to basically get in and close my eyes . This I did as was quite shocked at how rude she was. When over I was told to forget it and get on with my day!!! Very rude and no bedside manner.

  5. Review titled Outstanding care

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Peter - Posted on 08 February 2024

My granddaughter was taken by ambulance to the Emergency Department where she received amazing treatment. She spent time in the Children's Emergency Department, Pediatric Assessment Unit and Starfish Ward. She was treated with kindness, dignity and professionalism in all of them. All the staff including the most senior doctors, nursing staff, cleaners and volunteers looked after her and made sure she was comfortable, informed about the treatment she was receiving and delivered that treatment with kindness. All of the areas we visited were very clean and tidy and the food she received as an inpatient was appetizing and nice and hot. We were advised how to apply for reduced parking and that was handled very efficiently and very simple to do. The restaurant on site was very comfortable and welcoming and the choices and quality of food was excellent. I wish I had some way to repay the hospital staff for the kindness shown to her.

Many thanks to all the staff in A&E and the AAU level 3 who looked after my 95 year old mother. Her care was exemplary. She was always treated with dignity, kindness and patience. She is now recovering at home and still singing your praises Thank you to you all.

  7. Review titled Excellent experience

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by John Nolan - Posted on 23 February 2024

Having just had a basal cell carcinoma removed ( 30th January 2024), I wanted to thank the doctors and nurses involved, and the staff for the excellent treatment. Not only for the medical work but for the time, courtesy and consideration they displayed. Everything happened on time and the doctor doing the procedure talked me through every stage and couldn't have been nicer. So thank you and say congratulations for the running of the department. I was very impressed. John Nolan

  8. Review titled ACU

Rated 4 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 27 January 2024

After waiting quite a few hours in A&E myself a 2 other patients were transferred to ACU. Saw a Dr within half an hour, more blood tests, another ecg and chest xray all done within an hour. Yes, I had to wait a few hours for those results to come back but seen again, re-assured and discharged by a very caring doctor. A&E and ACU all working under extreme pressures but I was treated by very polite, caring staff throughout my visit. All doing their very best in the circumstances

  9. Review titled Poor Road Signs

Rated 3 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 12 February 2024

Was taking an immobile person to a&e in my car and followed to Road signs to a&e. Road signs direct you to Thomas Sawyer Way (eventually approaching from Oxhey Park that is). Signs missing at thar Junction. Sinage within hospital grounds variable and eventually leads to a blockaded barrier. Would appear access to a&e drop off is actually by a different route, from Vicarage Lane. Thought signage was really poor and needs resolving quickly.

  10. Review titled Professional Treatment in all ways.

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by peter le huquet - Posted on 27 December 2023

My wife was admitted with a broken shoulder in the early hours of Christmas day after falling down the stairs ( no alcohol involved ). She was treated with great care, skill and shown great kindness. We left some three hours later. Just recieved a "follow up" telephone call. We are totally satisfied with their practice.
