  1. Review titled Excellent care by professionals

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by John Godfrey - Posted on 30 March 2023

I have nothing but praise and admiration for the many caring staff (I saw over 50 different individuals) at A & E, on the AAU and Stroke ward (even though I did not have a stroke - just a bed was available there!), the ophthalmology dept, ultrasound dept and maxillofacial dept. All staff from cleaners, porters, catering staff, admin staff, care assistants, nurses, physios, specialists, doctors and consultants were very professional, caring, informative, friendly and thoughtful, making my two week stay in hospital as pleasant as could be under the circumstances.

  2. Review titled Great experience at children's A&E - thank you

Rated 5 stars out of 5

    by Jean-Baptiste Rancon - Posted on 27 February 2023

My son dislocated his shoulder playing rugby close to Watford. My wife advised he was likely to be brought into Watford General Hospital but that she had seen poor reviews for this hospital and that I should therefore do whatever it took to get my son back into a Central London hospital instead. However, by the time I got to him, my son was being checked into the A&E Department at Watford General Hospital - in an inordinate amount of pain. He saw a nurse in less than 15 minutes, who triaged him appropriately. What followed was a very efficient and timely process, with multiple rounds through doctor, anesthetist and X-ray. We were given a very clean room and the anesthetics were both available quickly and powerful enough (although there appeared to be strict controls of how they were being made available, by whom and how). Every professional we touched clearly knew their stuff and were also very nice despite the hospital being evidently very busy. Overall, the place gave me an impression of a slick, well- resourced, heavily kitted operation - not unlike a modern, efficient manufacturing site. Thank you to all involved for the superb job and all the care - we are very grateful.

  3. Review titled Excellent, kindly care

Rated 4 stars out of 5

Thank you to all the staff who treated my mother-in-law yesterday. We were both treated with respect, kindliness and professionalism.. we were regularly checked and all the tests place relatively quickly. It was necessary for us to be in the corridor, but considering all the news reports about overcrowding generally in hospital it could have been much worse. Good experiences don’t seem to make the news. Once again, thank you.

  5. Review titled Avoid because your life depends on it

Rated 1 star out of 5

Ruptured an achilles tendon. On entering, the department looks incredibly run-down, so much so that it wouldn't look out of place in the developing world. 90-minutes for triage; a further 90-minutes to be placed in a cast; two hours waiting for a nurse to fill in forms and take bloods; two hours until a doctor sees me; another hour until all bloods come back. Nearly nine hours spent throughout the night, no scans, no assessment. Earliest fracture clinic appointment? Seven days away. No thanks, I'm going private so I can be seen in 48-hours and treated without cutting corners. If I'd had a heart attack, I'd probably have died. It is an absolute atrocity to have a waiting time of seven-hours for an A&E doctor. I don't blame the staff - they were very friendly and doing the best they could in a terrible situation. If anything, I feel very sorry for them having to work for such an appallingly managed organisation. Do yourself a favour and get private health insurance, because it might just save your life if anything serious happens to you.

  8. Review titled Such kind, supportive attention in A & E

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Moira - Posted on 25 January 2023

Many thanks to all in A&E for the professional, thorough and quite simply, kind treatment I received on 24 January 2023. Even though it was plain to see how busy the department was, nurses and doctors kept me informed of what they were doing and, at times, why I was having to wait (usually for the results of blood tests). Thank you also to the the nurse who kindly made me a cup of tea, which she must have made with her spare pair of hands! I felt I was as in safe hands and reassured that the staff were doing all they could to find the cause of my problem, even running tests a second time to make sure they were content with results before I was patched up and allowed home. Thank you all again!

  9. Review titled Great service at a very difficult time for the NHS

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 12 January 2023

I was obviously anxious about attending A& E given the current news but my experience was very good. Was triaged almost immediately and then seen by two doctors; had a procedure to deal with an infected cyst dealt with in just over three hours. Everyone was kind especially the consultant and nurse who carried out the procedure and explained what was going to happen.

  10. Review titled Amazing care

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Jordan Hanvey - Posted on 28 December 2022

I went in to have my elective c section on the 22nd of December and since I arrived at the hospital myself and my partner was well looked after, all the midwife’s that looked after myself and baby were amazing, the level of care that we both received was amazing, the midwife’s were always popping their head around the curtains to check if we were okay when they were finished with other patients even if I didn’t press my call button, even though this was my 4th c section I still received all the information about what happened during my c section and the after care also, I can’t fault the care I received, there was one particular midwife who particularly made sure I was okay and kept on top of my pain level and was always willing to help me get out of bed, when the midwife’s seen me up and walking they would always be so encouraging telling me “ well done, you are doing great” I had all my 4 kids here and this was the best level care I have received. So thank you to each and every midwife who was working during my stay and who looked after me and baby, and also the cleaners and dinner ladies they were equally amazing making me cups of teas and having conversations with me. The ward was spotless, very clean, You all are amazing
