Review titled Great service
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 07 November 2024
I was admitted to DSU2 for a surgical procedure under the ENT team. Without fail, everyone I encountered (nursing staff, surgeon, anaesthetic team, scrub nurse etc) was friendly, professional, attentive, reassuring and kept me informed throughout of what to expect, timelines etc. The surgeon came to see me in the afternoon to check all was well and I was discharged promptly (with meds) a couple of hours later as soon as the necessary post-op blood results were available. I had a follow-up call the next day from the DSU2 nursing team to check all well. Honestly could not fault my experience.

My father who has recently been diagnosed with stage 4 terminal lung and lymph nodes cancer had to wait 6 hours for an ambulance and then had to wait a further 10 hours in A&E in extreme pain he finally got offered a bed in the early hours of the morning after being there for 6 hours he didnt get put on a ward and was left uncomfortable. He said there was cues of people left in corridors and the whole place was just horrendous.

Review titled Long waiting period
Rated 3 stars out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 11 October 2024
Initial service was great and very quick, but then l had to wait more than 2 hours to have blood samples taken. Another 2hours to see a doctor and then 4 hours waiting to see a surgeon but eventually l got tired and l had to leave without seeing the surgeon, l had to leave without getting getting the help l came for. I waited for more than 8 hours in total, but still l did not get the help l needed. I would say the waiting time is just too much, l don't know what can be done to improve on that. Imagine waiting 8hours but still not getting the help. Please help on that. Thank you.

Review titled Such amazing service and lovely staff
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Rachael Bowsher - Posted on 20 October 2024
We arranged in the evening after my daughter fell and hit her head at Legoland, and was suffering from memory loss. We were triaged straight away and seen within half hour of being there. The staff were so lovely and helpful with an understandable upset little girl. The Nurse who assessed my daughter was such an asset to your hospital. She made her feel right at ease, even get some smiles from my daughter, we left feeling at ease and very grateful for the NHS and all the staff. I hope this can be passed onto the nurse and all the staff.

Review titled Carry on Film Sunday Service
Rated 2 stars out of 5
by Nicholas Stabler - Posted on 28 October 2024
Broken Ct scanner in a and e, no one bothered to inform reception. No alternative arrangements made. The triage nurse I saw after was appallingly rude and uncaring. Medal for one of the a and e receptionists and one of the ambulance admission nurses who sorted out my scan and followed up on it. But the triage nurse was shocking and should be investigated. We don't go there for a fun day out and we don't choose to be ill and sometimes very scared of what's going on.

Review titled staff goes over and beyond
Rated 4 stars out of 5
by Joanna - Posted on 26 October 2024
I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to the team in A&E on the night of October 24th to 25th. The staff went above and beyond to support me, providing all the information I needed, patiently repeating details when I wasn’t sure or didn’t understand. Their kindness and caring attitude were truly wonderful in a moment of pain and exhaustion. I also appreciated the advice to return in the morning to avoid a long wait once it was determined my injury wasn’t urgent; this allowed me to get some rest. It showed impressive management and organizational skills, which are clearly essential with the constant flow of patients filling the waiting room—especially given the challenges of an understaffed department. I understand the waiting time reached 12 hours that night, which is difficult both for patients and staff, and I hope steps can be taken to improve this. Despite the pressure and stress they must experience, the team worked highly efficiently, but there simply aren’t enough staff members to enable shorter waiting time for patients. Additionally, I observed the staff skillfully handling difficult situations, including managing a patient who initially displayed aggressive behavior. They calmed him down within a few minutes, showing remarkable patience and professionalism. Thank you as well to the team members who carefully examined my X-ray, provided advice, fitted me with a special boot, and answered my questions with patience. Your team truly made a difference, and thanks to your amazing work, we were able to catch our flight in the afternoon and take children to visit grandparents during half-term!

Review titled Great emergency care generally. Some concerns.
Rated 4 stars out of 5

I follow a fodmap diet to control IBS symptoms and gluten sucrose intolerance. On ward 1 there was no question about diet. As I was too unwell to ask after surgery I accepted normal bread and cows milk. I developed diarrhea and because of codeine use I was then prescribed laxatives which I took reluctantly. On about 28th October I mentioned to the staff nurse on ward1 about gluten intolerance and was given the diet sheet. This diet was not fodmap but better than nothing. Shouldn't a dietician check with relatives about diet. I'm not officially IBS or Coeliac diagnosed. One other criticism about ward 1. Mixing the recovering patients with newly admitted theatre patients in recovery made for a bad experience on two nights. One patient with altzheimers tried to get out of bed and a fellow patient called the nurse. On another occasion a patient was so distressed in the early hours that I spoke to her to reassure her that she was OK and the nurses were trying to help. She was a lovely 93 year old and she told me that she'd had hallucinations and apologised. She looked out for the other 3 patients in our set. The night nurses didn't check often enough on new admissions. No thought was given to the rest of use with disturbed sleep.

I went to Wexham Hospital Surgical Unit SDEC on 12/10/2024. Then got admitted at Parkside for two days. Service was just amazing, so much care and compassion from the whole team, the surgeons, the nurses, the people at the reception. Everyone was amazing, great work guys. If l could remember all the names l would have loved to mention all the names. Service was just amazing, thank you for helping me get better.

Drs did a thorough job of trying to find out what was wrong but nursing care on the ward was disappointing - poor communication, unable to give me prescribed medication (said not available, kept trying to give me others which I told them I can’t have) and generally not around much and left to look after myself. Partner had to bring in pillow and blanket from home. Food totally inedible and no nutritional value. Not a place to go to, to get better unfortunately.
