Review titled Wow
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Robert - Posted on 06 May 2024
A&E was empty tonight, no ambulance after ambulance and not one patient on a trolley in any corridor. Front and back of department was very quiet. Yet the waiting time was still 13 hours. Blood test results weren't getting picked up by a doctor for over 5 hours after coming back from the lab. Awful service. They push ECG on you when you don't need one just to fill the space so on paper it looks like they've done everything super quick. Lies

Good morning Robert, thank you for taking the time to provide feedback on your recent attendance in ED. We are sorry that you have had a negative experience when you attended recently. Patients are assessed for their clinical urgency on arrival and treated in order clinical priority. There are many areas in ED that are not visible where our sickest patients are treated. If you would like to contact patientexperienceandedi@sthk.nhs.uk providing your full details, we will be able to look into this for you and provide you with the rationales for the tests and treatment you have received. We are hoping you feel better soon.

Review titled Holbrook Unit
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Peter Warwick - Posted on 07 April 2024
I took my aged mother to the unit and she received the most caring and sympathetic attention from the nurses imaginable. Likewise, the nursing staff were attentive, caring and wholly aware of the stress those accompanying patients can be under and were magnificent in supporting me and others. There would never me any criticism of the NHS if everyone's experience was like this. Quite the opposite. My thanks to everyone in the Holbrook Unit.

Thank you to all the staff who treated me during my assessment and subsequent microsurgery (Plastics Assessment/Ward A3). Everyone was professional and put me at ease. They made a bad experience bearable and I am very grateful.

Review titled Telephone Response
Rated 4 stars out of 5
by Chris Brand - Posted on 23 April 2024
Have trued for 28 hours and spent over two hours on the phone trying to get through to a&e. After a certain length of time, the phone cuts out. Need to know where and how a patient (by ambulance) is. No one has answered in the last 28 hours. We do not live close to the patient, who has no family. Please consider having a dedicated responder on the A&E reception. It's so time consuming, expensive to be on the phone for so long - not to mention the concern over the patient. Frustrated.

Review titled Excellent Doctor in A&E
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 01 May 2024
My elderly mother was admitted to A&E on easter Sunday the ambulance crew were wonderful . The doctor in A&E his name was jordan probably one of the best doctors we have ever seen in a a&e he was so thorough to be honest he is a credit to the trust . Mum was moved to the orthopaedic ward again the staff were lovely nothing a trouble. Mum was then moved to the elderly ward again staff were lovely and worked so so hard. The only disappointment was the doctors on the unit. Not very nice to be told at the nurse station that they have put a dnr in place for my mother especially when we were told she was only going there for a little physio before they discharged her home. I had another conversation in the corridor yet again for another two days regarding this with another doctor this totally un acceptable . This had not even been discussed with my Mother . The Matron regarding this matter Thankfully heard what was going on and intervened so a big thank you to her. . I would Just like to say I hope that the Doctors within the Care of the Elderly have learnt by this appalling service from them and show some empathy we hope this will never happen to any other families they should be shown respect and at least discussed in private with all the Family . .

My appt on 18/4/24 - I can’t praise and thank the 2 nurses who helped me - I suffer with claustrophobia and they were so kind, patient, helpful and understanding. They made a very difficult situation for me much easier and I cannot thank them enough.

My mum has recently been admitted to 4b planned admissions, from the day she was admitted the staff were amazing, they quickly attended to her needs, and were able to keep her comfortable, they also kept me up to date when I couldn’t be there with my mum. My mum has done nothing but sing their praises

Great service from start to finish on our recent trip to A&E with my accident prone teenage son. The receptionist was friendly. Triage nurse was friendly, caring and professional, quickly ordering an Xray on my sons injured finger's. Thankfully the department wasn't too busy. The Doctor who examined the injury and Xrays again was Friendly and reassuring. Thanks A&E

Review titled Ridiculous waiting time

The wait time was ridiculous. 11 hours and counting!!! Why is it so long? Draft more doctors in from other areas if necessary

Dear Aaron, Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback on your recent experience at Whiston hospital. We are sorry that you feel your wait has been too long in the ED Department .This is not the service that we aim to provide, however all ED Departments Nationwide are under extreme pressure at the moment due to the numbers of patients attending. Presentation at ED is for life/limb threatening complaints, patients are assessed on arrival and are seen by a Dr in order of the severity of their complaint. If you are currently in ED and feel that your condition is worsening whilst you wait , please make this known to a member of staff. Thank you for your patience. We hope you feel better soon.
