Review titled More questions than answers
Rated 2 stars out of 5
by Fran Parry - Posted on 25 January 2024
I had appointment on Mondayin 1b. Neurology Doctor was very thorough. Sent me for bloods to confirm something. Three hours later told bloods ok and sent home without seeing the doc again. Left with unanswered questions. Tuesday called in at PALS for advice. They are not dealing with anyone who is not inpatient at moment. Gave PALS written notes. Heard nothing since.

Review titled At times I felt you didn't care .
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by John Keefe - Posted on 10 January 2024
On a bus journey to Warrington on January 3rd 2024 , I started having terrible stomach pains . I didn't know it at the time but I had perforated an ulcer . A number of hours later I was taken into a.e It was around 11 . 30 pm . My twin brother gave my details at reception because I could barely speak , I heard him report that I was suffering from terrible stomach pains and that I'd been vomiting . I heard the receptionist say " Please take your brother to a seat and wait for a Dr to see him " . I've never known such pain like it , I couldn't sit down , I was literally climbing the walls . Hours and hours seemed to pass with only my blood pressure being taken . I felt I was on the point of collapse at any moment and if I had of collapsed I believe I would have died . I seemed to recall having my blood pressure taken again but no one asked me anything or asked myself to write anything down . I then got the idea to try and communicate with the receptionist to explain my belief that I had burst my appendix or burst an ulcer . As I was 'walking' towards the receptionist my brother told me I was having a blood test . It's now about 3.30 am if memory serves . I was then told my oxygen levels were fine . A little time after that I was taken to another room , a room with a green mural . At around 6 am , I was finally seen by a Dr , and that man played a huge part in saving my life .I'm not being dramatic , I'm not a drama queen , I'm a strong tall man , only my strength I believe kept me alive . To cut a long story shorter , I needed emergency surgery 17 hours after arriving at a.e . It was the worst night of my life . I'm now I believe recovering well . The Time I spent on 4a will be a time that'll never forget because of the kindness and caring I received from the wonderful nurses on that ward . I'm writing this because so much of my complete agony over so many hours could have been avoided if only the receptionist had given myself a pen and paper to write down what I was feeling . I didn't think of doing that at the time because I thought I was going to be seen presently . This is not a rant , I'm a great supporter of Whiston Hospital but ' Dear oh Dear ' , at times I thought you just didn't care .I'm sorry to say that but that's what I felt at the time . In the last year I've needed to visit the Hospital on 2 other occasions , once when I dislocated my thumb after falling of my bicycle and the other occassion was when I again fell of my bike and broke my clafikle . The pain I felt from those two injuries was not anywhere near being close to the agony I suffered from a perforated ulcer . I stepped onto a bus going to Warrington at 5.30 pm I was in agony for almost all the time up until I received the emergency surgery at 4.15 pm

Review titled Fantastic staff and a great hospital
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 08 February 2024
I attended a and e on the 29th Jan with severe stomach pains as directed by my GP. I was told that the wait would be at least 7 hours to see a doctor. The hospital was very busy but the staff were working very hard and at all times showed care and compassion. The delays were out of their control but I do not feel that this influenced the care I received. The nurses and doctor I saw were fantastic. All checks were done and I was referred within the hospital to continue my care. The only complaint I have is the time scales but the care I received was great. Thank you.

The consultant my husband seen today was amazing. He provided five star patient care he was kind, and respectful. He took the time to listen and we felt like we were listened to wow what a wonderful Doctor. Outstanding patient care this gentleman has. My husband is in a wheelchair and I thanked the Doctor for talking to him and not me. Most people don’t do that well done to the stroke ward fantastic service you are all doing a wonderful job thank you.

Review titled A most enjoyable traumatic experience!

An appointment at The Holbrook Unit, Whiston Hospital with a plastic surgeon to remove a pesky melanoma on my chest filled me with dread, but I needn't have worried. Just wanted to convey my sincere thanks to the surgeon and all nursing staff for their warm welcome and for giving me highly professional experience. Whilst the actual procedure was unpleasant, the manner in which it was performed and how I was repeatedly kept informed, both pre and post-op was just fantastic. Massive thanks to everyone involved and long live the NHS. Great cups of tea, biscuits and sandwiches too!! Steve Kyriacou

I recently took a friend into A&E after she damaged her foot badly. To my surprise we were triaged, checked over,x rayed, diagnosed and sent home within a 3 hour window. The staff were efficient, compassionate and polite and all medical information was explained efficiently. Many thanks - great job!

Review titled Amazing service from all seen

Attended AE this morning with septic tonsillitis. Waiting times were better than expected. Cannulated quick and had bloods done. Received IV steroids and IV antibiotics. Was looked after when getting treated by all nurses and Drs. The catering staff made sure i was offered food and hot drinks. It’s a busy time of year and no one enjoys working Xmas specially when you have families yourself. And everyone was in good spirits. I honestly can’t ever say a bad word about Whiston. Always have been looked after. I am a medical professional myself and know how stressful the winter pressures can be. But 10/10 for everything I feel so much better and hopefully I can enjoy Xmas with my children now. Thankyou all xx
