Review titled Poor communication
Rated 3 stars out of 5

I had a telephone consultation in May and was told I would be referred directly for mra scans. After finally receiving an appointment date, I was unable to get through on the phone to get my appointment time, despite trying about 15 times at different times during office hours. Each time I was put on hold for a few minutes and then the phone went dead. I also tried calling the MRI department and my surgeon's secretary who both advised me that I have an appointment but don't have an mra booked. I eventually went through the switch board and was given different numbers for the appointments team. One of the numbers worked after a few tries. Why on earth are you insisting that patients call a number to get their appointment time if that number never gets answered? At this point I have no idea if I still have an appointment or what it is for as I have had no response to email or any information. I really feel for anyone who is vulnerable, I can see how they would slip through the net entirely.

Review titled Mixed experience

I attended for a hip replacement on the 30/5/23. The registrar and staff were considerate and caring. Everything prior to the operation was fully explained, physio was also explained. It was on the discharge that I feel the hospital was let down. I was waiting for a frame to be delivered to home ready for my discharge. The sister on the ward 1/6/23 asked if it had been delivered, I had spoken to my husband and was told it would be that day sometime. The sister phoned my husband an hour later to enquire if it was delivered - it was. She returned to me told me it was delivered and said make your way to the discharge room. I started to get dressed when a nurse told me a porter would take me to the discharge room. At no point had any member of staff gone through my medication to take home. In the discharge room there were 5 other patients waiting to go, 1 man had been waiting 3 hours and was very annoyed - understandably. The nurse was very good trying to sort out what had happened to patients medication, transport and care. My husband arrived luckily my medication was there unfortunately I had not been told anything about the medication I was taking home and the nurse had to go through it with me. My husband had to find a wheelchair to take me to the car as I could not walk down the slope, and he had to try and get me in the car. I feel the whole discharge process lets the hospital down. I feel the discharge process needs to be reassessed.

Had a scan in February on right ankle to see what the problem was and why I was in so much pain with it. Results booked in for March. Cancelled due to doctors strike. Rearranged for today. Oh guess what they have cancelled again. If a patient cancels so many times we are struck off the list. How can a consultant cancel so many times and get away with it. All I want is my scan results. Wish now I had stayed at Euxton Hall and not moved to wrightington hospital. Never known a hospital that can cancel so many appointments as wrightington do. Yes I have another appointment now 31st May. Who has to wait four months for scan results and have a policy it is our policy we can give out results you need to come in and see the specialist. It's disgusting.

Review titled Mixed feelings and messages
Rated 3 stars out of 5

My hip replacement in March I hoped would bring me relief from 11 painful years to enjoy quality again, the hospital was recommended after a private assessment after having been told to wait until older at another hospital -however I am still struggling post op on a daily basis with a hiked up pelvis and large leg length discrepancy which has created a very awkward hobble and gait & ongoing discomfort and pain. I had to make my own follow up appointment by phone which was given at 8 weeks, . My ankle swelled badly when Teds were removed on day 2 this seemingly against the Surgeons criteria but staff were generally kind all in all. I have felt very alone with mixed messages of how to deal with this on a daily basis, I've had mixed advice - surgeon told me to just walk, but by leaning on a crutch I felt I had to have chiropractic support to protect back & neck. The discomfort is sadly more than pre op due to hiked up pelvis which I find hard to understand & come to terms with as I don't know if it will recover? Although told to walk it better by surgeon the chiropractor says the leg muscles are very short and weak so definitely need to do building up exercises? Also for massage as they are very tight, I therefore feel much time has been wasted and can't understand the differences in aftercare advice given to me by all these professionals of what is a common, albeit major operation. I've had to seek a way forward ... I stayed in hospital 5 nights I didn't see a senior person and after two weeks of going home I arranged some nhs physio myself as there had been no mention of this, but this was to no avail sadly. I try and have hope but need to know if it's false hope by other peoples outcomes? - the pediatrist I saw said I will be back shortly for a large shoe uplift?? This is not what my surgeon said...... I was positive for the first 8 weeks but now I'm hardly improved six months in . I need advice and support Thankyou

Review titled Chronic Pain Clinic
Rated 4 stars out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 10 March 2023
After waiting for eight months I arrived 15mins early for my appointment. After waiting nearly 30mins from my app.time I approached a nurse to enquire how long I would be waiting. I found her to be off-hand and unfriendly. Without any apology she told me I would be next after she called a gentleman in, who had only arrived 15 mins earlier. I was eventually called in exactly 1 hour from my appoint. time and still no apology from staff. Due to waiting so long I had become extremely anxious and frustrated. The doctors I saw were excellent; understanding, empathetic and approachable. What a pity not all members of the team were not and basically ruined my first experience to the Chronic Pain Clinic.

Review titled An outstanding hospital in every respect ...
Rated 5 stars out of 5

On 6th March 2023 I had a very successful total hip replacement at Wrightington Hospital and I was fortunate to be under the care of a wonderful team. I cannot praise enough the care given to me and the professionalism of all during my stay and the excellent aftercare and advice (including my 12 month post operative check up). My experience with the staff during Out Patient and pre-op visits gave me the utmost confidence in the hospital and I was not disappointed. From the moment I arrived early on the day of my operation staff were attentive, knowledgeable and, above all, caring and approachable. Many health care professionals – surgeon, anaesthetists, nurses, cleaners, doctors, HCA’s, physiotherapists and admin assistants - were involved in my care both before and after my operation and all were wonderful. Without a doubt, Wrightington is an outstanding hospital in every respect. One which offers a warm, positive and welcoming environment and is a true example of the NHS working at its best – professional, compassionate, efficient and reliable whilst maintaining a wonderful sense of team spirit at all times.

Review titled Friendly, caring, efficient, knowledge of Consultants
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Sue Longden - Posted on 27 January 2023
From the welcome at admissions for my first consultation, the knowledge of the anticipated operation and what I needed to commit to, ie exercises, to the admission and step-by-step details through the operation, the professional nursing care in the ward to the continuing expertise of the physios after the operation - 100% experience. The news is full of doom and gloom but at Wrightington life, to the patient, is excellent.
