  2. Review titled Ongoing but midwife I spoke to was so reassuring and nice

Rated 4 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 26 June 2024

I’m still ongoing my treatment but the midwife I spoke to initially from the Doncaster office ( I don’t think your allowed To mention names even if it’s for a positive reason) . (Im in Newcastle) she was so lovely and reassuring. She didn’t make me feel like I was an awful person for undergoing a termination and she was so kind and patient. It really helps having someone like that to talk to when it’s a really sensitive subject. From making the first phone call to receiving my treatment in the post it was dealt with very promptly and we are so lucky to be able to receive this treatment as other countries women aren’t as fortunate.

  3. Review titled Sad experience

by Niamh - Posted on 07 June 2024

My experience with BPAS was not nice. The appointments prior to abortion were prompt and comforting. However on the day of my abortion I felt alone and not reassured. I got there and waited for 30 minutes which was fine. I had my partner with me which was comforting. However, I went through to the admin and had been asked questions that made me feel sad and uncomfortable about the process. I’m already quite nervous about surgery so this was quite a big thing for me. I have never been pregnant before and I felt quite judged. The only positive relationship was with the Healthcare assistant who was lovely. But only saw her for a short amount of time. When I went up to surgery I was told to take underwear off but I was bleeding by this point and shared this with them but they said it was fine and to sit there with nothing on other than the gown and blanket over me. I was then on my own and felt really nervous and no one had checked in on me. I was then told that I could go through to theatre. At this point no one really introduced there names and said what was going on. After having the canula put in my arm and the oxygen mask on i went through to theatre and there was lots of practitioners in there who didn’t even say hello or any reassurance whatsoever even though i was shaking and crying. They took my blood pressure ( didn’t ask consent or even said hello ) and all of a sudden i felt dizzy. They had put the first set of pain killers through my arm without telling me. So i panicked. Then next thing i was asleep. I woke up to girls crying and I had no reassurance or told that it went well from the nurses. This made me feel angry because i have had previous surgery on my breast and throughout that whole experience I had atleast one person with me at all times to make sure i was OK. It was almost like they made it traumatic enough to never return. Not that i’m planning to. Overall not a nice experience and did not feel supported throughout and felt so sad throughout my whole expierence. This was a very invasive procedure and I expected better.

  4. Review titled Couldn’t ask for a better experience

by Anonymous - Posted on 05 April 2024

I have had 2 abortion experiences and would 100% recommend BPAS over the hospital. After having a previous abortion through the hospital which took me a million phone calls to book in and having to wait 2 weeks to get an appointment, having no support and facing ignorance when I rang up a few weeks later saying I was still in unbearable pain and still having huge fleshy clots, I got told ‘the pain could last for up to 2 weeks so there’s not much we can do’ I later realized I think I was unlucky and had RPOC as my pain, clots and constant bleeding went on for over a month, and there was definitely something that could have been done. The second time around I couldn’t face the hassle, the wait times and the judgement in person at the hospital, so I choose to go through BPAS and it was the best decision I could have made. They got back to me super quickly, it was easy to change my phone appointment to suit my work schedule and the lady on the phone was extremely helpful and supportive. The process from filling out a form online to receiving my package in the post took less than a week. In the package you have more than what is given at the hospital. You get the medication, a backup dose, a pregnancy test, and Sti test, Codeine for the pain (which I had to buy myself last time after googling best pain management 3 hours after the pain started) I also got 3 months of the contraceptive pill to see if it suits me, there’s also a leaflet explaining how to take the medication and some useful information about abortions. I got support on contraception over the phone as I stated I hated the way I felt on the pill they gave me last time. I got advice on how to manage my pain and what tablets to take. I was made aware of all the support that was available for me for my mental and physical help, I honestly can’t explain the difference a good experience during this process can make during such a sensitive situation. And the fact you can (depending on your personal situation) do the whole thing from the comfort of your own home can be a massive savior for mental health and anxiety.

  5. Review titled Absolutely Rubbish

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 12 February 2024

During a horrible time in my life I contacted BPAS. Filled in the usual form for the 24 hour appointment, no appointment was forthcoming so I called to put my mind at rest & ask a few other questions I had and was spoken to by the most unfriendly, uncaring women I have ever spoken with who was incredibly unhelpful and after numerous security questions didn't actually let me ask any questions as she just started repeating herself. Honestly, made me more upset than I already was so I went elsewhere and was treated respectfully.

  6. Review titled Still waiting

Rated 3 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 06 September 2023

We have contacted BPAS following the online appointment application, doing so after the contact number provided was either not connecting or picking up, it states someone will be in contact within 24 hours and this has not been the case. It’s unacceptable for timelines to be set then not to be adhered to. We are now cutting it close and may need to go elsewhere.

  7. Review titled Treated as if i was unstable...

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 25 September 2023

I'm in a bad place in my life currently and turns out I'm also pregnant ...contact them for an appointment nothing .so I call and when I ask for a rough timeline for things .am I expecting this to take weeks days ? I get told by the robot on the phone you will be allocated the next earliest appointment ...umm is that days weeks what she just keeps repeating that .I get my appointment through .middle of my work day I arrange stuff for my appointment but its not an appointment its a 2 hour time frame i hear nothing til 10 minutes before the end of the time frame so I call asking why and how long things are gonna take .I get told only then the call will take an hour .why now? I then have to cancell my 2pm appointment at now 3pm and re schedule I originally get told Thursday that's in no way good enough . Then suddenly I get one next day first thing only to then get my originally call I explain I'm back to work now I make accommodations to make the call and no-one called . I say I wanted to explore options in the quickest time frame and get told weeks as I didn't have my consultation when i should have .i explain this isn't my fault its theirs for not explaining properly so then I get questioned on my mental state wow I'm a grown woman and because I got messed around then that apparently means I can be belittled and talked down to being told we can help if you were in an abusive situation or you can take your self to this clinic a 300 mile round trip away .not good enough. In a time in a woman's life where she is so vulnerable and things should he done in a timely Manor no care is given by the people behind their computers .and by the so-called midwifes when the weeks waiting for treatment could mean many things . Why do I need to drive hundreds of miles to a clinic to have another consultation to be able to take them but you can post them with you fingers crossed they actually arrive as some time when you need them .its a joke .this sorta thing needs to be dealt within days not weeks

  8. Review titled Excellent care and support - Thank you.

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 09 May 2023

After diagnostic tests confirmed that my baby had chromosome abnormalities, I made the decision to end the pregnancy. I had the surgical procedure under conscious sedation at 16 weeks’ of pregnancy. My pre-appointment took place at the BPAS Leicester clinic, whereas the actual procedure was performed at the Finsbury Park clinic. I found the level of care, clinical diligence and support provided to me from all involved in my treatment to be outstanding from the first telephone consultation onwards. I was particularly anxious about the procedure, but found this to be no where near as uncomfortable as expected and I experienced only mild to moderate discomfort for a day or two after the procedure. The clinic does it’s best to provide a clam and caring environment while still ensuring it feels professional and very focused to ensuring the highest standards of clinical treatment. The aftercare information was particularly useful, with all relevant information and contact numbers should you had any concerns, but I had no issues at all. I really cannot thank all the amazing staff involved in my care enough. The only one thing that could be improved is the actual waiting time to receive the initial telephone consultation appointment, which was just over a week for me. The waiting during this period felt a little drawn out, but I appreciate the demand for the service and recent bank holidays may be the catalyst for this. Overall, I am very grateful for the excellent care I received and indeed that we can access this important service at all in this country.

  9. Review titled Still waiting for assistance 25 days later!

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 15 April 2023

Day 25, still nothing from BPAS! I went else where in this time and just made the deadline for 10 weeks to have an at home tablet abortion. BPAS hasn't even started the process as of yet. Disgraceful.

  10. Review titled Ok but need to work on something's

Rated 3 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 03 April 2023

My honest opinion on my experience. They are ok but need some work. I will start off with the good everyone I have meet or spoken to has been nice and try to understand your difficult situation. And never had an issue with getting in contact with them so that is always good. Now for the not so good and what needs to be improved. The process is far to long and it's very distressing when you know it's a discussion you have to make. My whole treatment process will take 3 weeks (it's still ongoing). I don't feel like my reason for my treatment was really understood. I will explain with this. They put that the reason for treatment was for emotional distress. However as much as this is part of the reason it was mainly medical reasons. I only have 1 in 5 chance I will ever make full term. And honestly feel this should have been the reason after two horrific failed previous pregnancies. And lastly the clinic's are so far from my local area luckily for me i was able to get to theses locations. This would have been a nightmare if I would have had to use public transport. Apart from theses things I can't say I have had a good nor bad experience. I think if these three problems could be sorted they would be a great service to women who are in need of their support and services.
