  2. Review titled Poor communication and lack of compassion

    by Concerned 83 - Posted on 17 April 2023

I contacted Ross Hall hospital last week as I had received a worrying phone call from the GP about some scans my teenage son had. They advised he needed an urgent review by a specialist which would be within 2 weeks. I called Ross Hall as my son was worried sick and couldn’t have him wait 2 weeks. Managed to get an appointment that evening, which was excellent. He had a swift appointment with a consultant with no issues and plan was made for further imaging. This is where the good care ended. Took the referral to the imaging department as advised, slip taken off us with no communication, just said someone will phone. We were advised 1-2 weeks for imaging. I called 4 days later, no answer to department each time, phone cuts off after waiting, and had to keep getting put through to main reception who emailed them to call me. Can I say those on your front desk were extremely understanding and empathetic. The imaging department did eventually call back but their lack of interest was evident. Eventually got a phone call 5 days later offering imaging with a date 15 days later. As the mum of a teenager who has this hanging over him, is worried sick and about to sit his exams, I asked that they check one of their other hospitals for an earlier appointment and call me back. This was agreed and then no call back was received. I called again, same old story, can’t get through to anyone. Eventually after trying multiple times they advised that the initial appointment was cancelled, as the other hospital was going to call me with an earlier date. I called the other hospital and they advised that they hadn’t received a referral, it would still need screened by a radiologist and until then couldn’t give a date. I called back Ross Hall who said yes they did send the referral. I advised that we needed that scan booked at Ross Hall on that initial date, in case it was an even longer wait at the other hospital, particularly since they hadn’t received the referral and they couldn’t give me a date yet, and it still needed screened by a radiologist, so was effectively back to the start of the process. I would have thought my desperation was evident, particularly given that we were willing to travel 3 hours to one of the other hospitals to get this done earlier, and I explained the circumstances clearly around why we were so desperate. Surely common sense would prevail and they’d have booked in the initial date and if we got an earlier appointment it would get cancelled? Now, at this point you would think some compassion would be of benefit, or some actual care for how patients may feel, but the sheer disinterest from the staff in imaging who are on the other end of the phone line, is shocking. The outcome was that they had now given the initial appointment away, the date I got from them for the scan was now even later than the initial date, I still have no appointment at the other hospital. I could understand them cancelling, if they had appointed elsewhere at an earlier date, but why cancel that and leave us sitting with still no date with no time frame? Each time I have called, I have felt like speaking to me was an inconvenience. Now can I be clear, they are not rude, they answer my questions but the disinterest is evident in their tone. They lack empathy. This is not the best care, when you are already stressed and worried sick and so is your child. I am aware there are pressures across all healthcare, I am a nurse myself and work within the NHS, I am aware of waiting times in NHS which is why I chose to use a private hospital for to speed things up but in all honesty, the amount of phone calls and lack of compassion received has just added to our stress levels. I know that I expect my staff to be compassionate and empathetic to all our patients, I expect the same for my family when on the receiving end of care. We will now wait patiently to see if the other Hospital will ever receive the referral and get my son booked in any earlier.

  3. Review titled Seamless service

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Joan Stevenson - Posted on 23 April 2023

From the start of my care information was clear. The hospital is small, clean and quiet, which is part of a healing environment. The staff helpful, friendly and professional. I was made to feel the centre of the exercise. My surgery, recovery and discharge have all been much better than I expected. Initial pain promptly treated, and no further problems. I cannot rate this highly enough.

  4. Review titled Bad Practice

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Maureen Doonan - Posted on 14 March 2023

I attended Circle Health Group at Braehead Glasgow for a consultation for cataract surgery. Appointment made for surgery with no indication of problems. I have since had a second opinion and have been told I have a tear in my retina which is old but cannot have surgery till a retinol specialist has examined my eye as to carry out surgery without this examination could cause retinal detachment. This is not acceptable treatment from Circle and I am extremely disappointed by the response I received when I called to complain a receptionist apologised, I was not offered a chance to speak to the consultant or even his secretary. I am certainly not impressed as the surgery would have cost me £6000 and a consultation fee of £445 was charged, if I had not sought a second opinion whe knows what damage would have been caused to my sight and I would have been charged for the privilege.

  6. Review titled Lost tests

Rated 2 stars out of 5

by JWB - Posted on 06 January 2023

Was sent to Blackheath Hospital for 3 diagnostic tests and they have managed to lose the tests / results for two of them. It has been over two months that I have been trying to get answers to symptoms but because The Blackheath Hospital has lost the tests, my Doctor still does not have the information they need to help me.
