Review titled Diagnosed but no prescription
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 17 October 2024
My wife was diagnosed last November since then she has been unable to get any meaningful communication regarding her medication. The website and patient experiance team are polite but useless. I am sure in the reply they will blame the GP and waiting times for medication ? Eleven months is totally unacceptable to wait for a prescription. I am sure they have made sure that they have billed the crumbling NHS for the diagnosis. Same old replies.

Dear Reviewer, We are truly sorry to hear about your wife’s extended wait for medication, and we understand how frustrating this delay has been. As you noted, the wait times are challenging, and 11-months must feel incredibly prolonged. At this stage, your wife should be close to moving into the next phase of her treatment, which from your review includes the medication. If your wife doesn’t receive an update within the next week, we encourage her to reach out to our Patient Safety Team at experience@psychiatry-uk.com or leave a note in her patient portal for a more specific timeline. While we are unable to look into individual cases here, rest assured I’ll pass on this feedback to the relevant team so they are aware of your concerns. Thank you for leaving a review and feedback. Kind Regards Psychiatry-UK

Review titled Poor communication and not fit for purpose.

Regrettably I have been unable to speak to an actual member of staff. So far my experience has been logging into a portal and waiting for a phone call. I cannot access any forms to be put on a waiting list but I am having weekly emails saying I will be discharged for not completing these forms. Emails ignored, the online chat was unhelpful and I have been unable to speak to an actual human. Formal complaints also ignored. I am not hopeful I will have the opportunity to be on the waiting list. The time frames set by the company are long gone and I am waiting for my discharge so I can report to CQC.

Review titled Are they fit for purpose?
by Melody Davy - Posted on 17 September 2024
Lots to this but i appreciate the need to keep it brief My son was assessed and prescribed medication around 6months ago, this medication was like gifting him life. He went from a recluse and in despair to applying for and holding down 2 jobs, having human interactions and applying for uni it was wonderful to see. He unknowingly didnt reply to a message from psychiatry uk and was discharged, no medication, no further contact by psychiatry uk other than that email. They told him his GP needed to refer him back to them and there was a 6week wait, GP referral was sent that same day. This was mid july. He phoned, over an hour on hold, for an update and was told referral was never sent and to contact his gp, gp resent his referral and even now they say they havnt sent it. GP have sent us the proof they have. On their chat today we were told he'd have to wait another 12 weeks, i had to insist they check they had the referral and it was then they said they still dont. He has just started uni and is in a terrible place. P uk have all his information and im struggling to know the reasons why they're unable to just pick it back up he doesn't need reassessing.

Dear Reviewer Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback regarding your son's experience. We truly appreciate hearing from you. While we cannot look into individual cases on this platform, we encourage your son to reach out to our Patient Safety Team at experience@psychiatry-uk.com. They will be able to investigate this matter further and provide the clarity you and your son need regarding his discharge. We understand your concerns; however, we must clarify that we have strict protocols in place for prescribing medication. Discharging a patient is not a decision made lightly, and it is essential that we maintain clear communication throughout the treatment process. If a patient becomes disengaged, it complicates our ability to prescribe safely, as patient safety is our top priority. We empathise with your frustration and your son’s situation, and we want to ensure that his concerns are addressed appropriately. Please encourage him to reach out to our Patient Safety Team, who will be in a better position to assist you both. Thank you once again for your feedback. Kind regards, Psychiatry UK

I was referred by my GP in April. Waited six weeks, and then enquired to be told that my GP hadn’t sent the correct information. The GP then confirmed that they had resent the information. I waited another six weeks and called to see if referral has been processed. I spoke to a lady that said she would call me back at 10 am the next day after waiting 55 minutes on the phone to speak to somebody. She didn’t call me back the next day, so I had to access the online chat which takes forever to get a response. Thankfully someone called me back to say they haven’t received anything from my GP. I’ve called my GP and they have said they did send the information. I just feel like I’m going round in circles and nobody knows what they’re doing. It’s extremely frustrating and I feel like I’ve wasted over five months and I’m no closer to receiving an assessment or know how long I’ll have to wait to be assessed .

Dear Wendy, We are so sorry to hear about your experience. Unfortunately, there are times when we cannot accept a referral due to missing information, which can cause delays. We apologise for the frustration this has caused. We also understand the wait time has been challenging. 1. Previously discharged from service despite shared care agreement in place with my GP. When challenged, they did a u turn and acted as if I had misunderstood communications. GP never informed I had been discharged. After I challenged PUK regarding the nature of shared care agreements, they wrote to my GP advising I hadn’t been discharged. 2. Changed agreed care plan without discussion with me, and GP still not made aware of u-turn. U turn decision made by titration team (not sure if this is was a clinical decision) and contrary to what was agreed with my consultant at consultation. Now made to feel as if it is me that is unreasonable after 15 months of no treatment. Explanation for u turn not sensible. Low dose stimulants whilst waiting for non-stimulants were deemed appropriate but apparently, not now. No apology. Whatever happened to “no decision about me, without me”. Stopping current non-stimulant meds titration due to a safety alert - titration started several days after the recall was posted, and meds taken by me for 13 days thereafter before advised to discontinue. MHRA advice is that patients continue treatment but report side effects. I pointed this out - apparently it is now a supply issue. Again, it seems as if its me that is unreasonable. Offered to put me in touch with patient experience. Recent experience of a close relative has left me with no confidence in this and tbh, what would it achieve. Multiple communications and more patient stress. Feel completely mis-understood and uncared for. Little empathy for ADHD as a condition. Nowhere to take this other that ICB which would mean more exhausting comms. Put up and shut up I guess!

Review titled In response to your response

Dear puk patient experience team. Regarding my feedback of 8th August titled “poor patient experience” and specifically your response of 13th August. I did go to your team; your response was as expected i.e. we cannot overrule the titration team decision. No further discussion. I am left wondering about the value of future discussion/care planning with a consultant when decisions can be overruled by the titration team. In addition, there is little value in engaging with pt experience when they are unable to change anything. As a patient of adhd services, I am left unheard, misunderstood and with no choice but to put up and shut up.

Review titled Shockingly poor communication and service
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 03 July 2024
I was formally diagnosed with ADHD, and due to issues at the other practice I was advised I could be titrated by Psychiatry UK. I have reached out multiple times and have been told that they cannot ‘estimate’ a wait despite being on their wait list for over 8months, and that despite having my full paperwork with both a medication recommendation and the full report of my diagnosis, they’ve advised I will still have to be reassessed. Their customer support have been non existent, they have minimal information and from the other reviews I’ve read this isn’t a singular experience. They’re a shocking service provider and should be more rigorously mediated to ensure they’re actually providing care and not just draining finances from the NHS to keep people on waiting lists for months with no care.

Review titled Not impressed
Rated 2 stars out of 5
by Deborah Jane Pearson - Posted on 29 July 2024
I recently underwent an assessment, during which I was informed that I have ADHD and exhibit traits of ASD. Unfortunately, I was not prescribed medication due to my history of high blood pressure and my age. Instead, I was recommended cold showers and meditation as alternative approaches. Upon discussing this with my GP, I learned that my blood pressure was in good standing at their last evaluation, and my GP also disagreed with the assessment's conclusions, about medication. I followed up with a courteous email asking that my case be reconsidered considering my GP's insights. However, I was unexpectedly discharged from the service and lost access to their portal, including my email access. I am aware that a letter was sent to my GP about my case, and I plan to obtain my records to discuss a potential doctor-to-doctor appeal with him. Overall, I was deeply disappointed with the service I received, especially considering that I believe a private patient would have been prescribed medication without hesitation. Unfortunately, there was no willingness to discuss my situation further, and the decision to discharge me felt abrupt. I am fortunate to have a supportive GP who I trust to aid in resolving this matter. However, it is important for the NHS to reevaluate their relationship with this particular service, as my experience has not been satisfactory.

Dear Deborah, Thank you for leaving such an in-depth review. We completely understand your frustrations and appreciate the time you took to share your experience. At Psychiatry UK the safety of our patients is our foremost priority. While your GP might have a different perspective, our online prescribing service requires us to consider all factors to ensure the safety and well-being of our patients. If our clinicians determine that it is not safe to prescribe medication, they are obliged to decline prescribing to protect the patient's health. We apologise for the disappointment this has caused you and appreciate your understanding of the complex considerations involved in our decision-making process. If you'd like to discuss this further, please reach out to our patient safety team at experience@psychiatry-uk.com. Thank you once again for your feedback. Kind Regards Psychiatry UK

Review titled Felt completely dismissed
Rated 1 star out of 5

Wait 14 months and finally had my appointment on 27th June. I had managed to find some school reports that showed I was making careless errors and I could be disruptive in class. Bare in mind I'm 37 so it was lucky I even had these. Told him all about how the ADHD affects my life only to be told that everyone gets restless and fidgety, forgetful and looses things. I understand there is a criteria they need to adhere to but I was told it isn't impacting my life enough for a diagnosis. This is due me finding ways to help manage my symptoms, such as writing down lists and keeping everything in a certain place so I don't loose them. Felt completely looked over and made to feel I was just exaggerating.

Review titled Challenging communication issues
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 21 June 2024
Having waited for months for an appointment after an NHS GP referral and filling in numerous online forms on their portal, I was granted an appointment in June 24. Video appointment, therapist only interested in childhood experiences when it is universally acknowledged that female ADHD is very often masked and issues hidden/dealt with by coping strategies and remains undiagnosed until much later in life. Apparently I don't have ADHD despite my GP being convinced that I have. I was told that her findings would be sent to my GP in the form of a letter. Weeks later, still no letter received at the GP practice. I was advised to get in touch direct with then, so rang their number, recorded message advised up to an hour waiting time and to use their message chatbot, which I did. None of the questions/responses were relevant and it advised to ring their number! I did, and waited for 1hr, 2mins, 2 seconds, before an automated voice cut off the call with the message 'we are experiencing technical difficulties, please call back at a later time'!!!! Unbelievable. Unacceptable. Unprofessional. If offered a referral to Psychiatry-UK, please request a different company to avoid you being left in my position. I remain no further forward, same symptoms as prompted me to initially contact my GP at a time of crisis. No doubt Psychiatry-UK have received their fee from an already struggling NHS whilst us patients are left in limbo.

Dear Patient Thank you for taking the time to leave such an in-depth review. We’re truly sorry to hear that your experience with us was not a positive one. Our therapists and clinicians work diligently to provide the best possible care, and they are committed to ensuring that any diagnosis given is accurate and appropriate. If they are not 100% certain about a diagnosis, they will refrain from giving one, as they prioritise being thorough and careful in their assessments. We understand that the wait times have been long and that this can impact communication. We’re working very hard, in collaboration with the NHS, to manage the high demand for assessments that we’re currently facing nationwide. We are continuously making changes and putting provisions in place to get through as many patients as possible, and we’re confident that these improvements will have a positive impact in the near future. We apologise if you did not receive the diagnosis you were hoping for. We completely understand how frustrating this can be. Kind regards, Psychiatry UK
