  1. Review titled Consistently Poor Service and Unethical Practices

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Dee - Posted on 05 July 2024

My husband, who suffers from rheumatoid arthritis and has difficulty walking, frequently visits this pharmacy, and each time he is told that it will take 20 minutes to dispense his prescription. This has been a consistent issue, and it seems as though the staff are deliberately delaying the process to encourage customers to shop while they wait. Regardless of the time of day, the standard response is always "20 minutes." This tactic feels highly unethical, especially considering that people visiting the pharmacy are often unwell and in need of timely assistance. Today, I went to the pharmacy myself with a painful fungal toe infection that made walking extremely difficult. Before going in, I called the pharmacy multiple times, but the phone rang out and then disconnected each time. When I mentioned this to the pharmacist I spoke to, they acknowledged that the phone should be answered and seemed aware that this is an ongoing issue. Had someone answered, they could have prepared my medication in advance, allowing me to pick it up quickly and minimise my discomfort. Instead, I was told to wait 20 minutes, which I refused to do because it is an unreasonable amount of time to wait when you are in pain and unwell. To add to the frustration, the lady at the counter blamed the delay on a water leak, but this issue has been ongoing regardless of any supposed leaks. Interestingly, when I refused to wait, my prescription was suddenly ready in under 5 minutes. This experience clearly suggests that the pharmacy staff could process prescriptions more quickly but choose not to. This raises serious ethical concerns about their practices. In summary, the service at Tesco Pharmacy Dudley is extremely disappointing. The consistent delays in processing prescriptions seem designed to force customers to shop, which is unacceptable, particularly for those who are sick and in need of quick medication access. We will never use this pharmacy again and strongly urge Tesco to address these issues promptly to ensure a more compassionate and efficient service for all its customers. This ongoing situation is unacceptable and needs immediate attention.

  2. Review titled Not a pleasant experience using this pharmacy

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Concerned - Posted on 27 July 2024

You are told not to come to the pharmacy unless you have received one of their text messages. I didn’t receive a text message so after 3 days, I rang them up. This was for an emergency prescription by my GP that had been sent to them. I was told it would be ready on the same day after 4pm. To be answered by a very hostile person who was very rude and then hung up before I had even finished speaking to them. Before they hung up, they then said it had been ready since that day. Due to this pharmacy's lack of Communication, I haven’t been able to have this medication that is/was needed for 4 days now. I have had a few issues with the same person at this pharmacy with rudeness and lack of care or consideration on their behalf. I only use this pharmacy because it the closest one to me and due to me struggling to get out to another pharmacy. Sometimes you can ring and ring them and it’s not even answered and when they did eventually pick up their reason for not answering the phone was they were busy! This was over a 4 hours period of calling continuously.

Thanks for taking the time to leave your comments. This is the review page for Tesco Dover Extra. Your comments don't seem to relate to any recent experiences at our store, we have been receiving comments from across the country on this page. Please contact the Pharmacy Manager at your local branch to discuss further. Pharmacies across the country are at record levels of work and dealing with unprecedented amounts of shortages. The NHS App asks patients to leave 5 working days between ordering their prescription and collection at their pharmacy. At our pharmacy, any issues are communicated to the patient straight away via phone or text message. Patients are asked to wait for text confirmation before coming to the pharmacy. There are times in the day where our phone lines become exceptionally busy, and I'm sure this is the same across the business. Tesco Pharmacy Dover Extra

I went to see if they could help with a problem I had with what I would say was impetigo on my nose , asked to speak to pharmacist (young man red hair) who basically laughed about my face and nose and told me to call doctors , he mad no effort to talk to me away from the queue and made me feel very uncomfortable I will not recommend or use Tesco's Whitfield again no matter how desperate I am

Thank you for taking the time to leave your comments. I'd like to apologise for the way you feel you were treated in our pharmacy. Our consultation room is well advertised and closed to the pharmacy counter. Any patient is welcome to ask for a consultation in private if needed. Pharmacists are trained to look for "red flag" symptoms. These are symptoms which indicate a condition is more severe than can be dealt with in the pharmacy. As I recall, you were directed to your GP or local UTC as your symptoms were so severe that you didn't meet the criteria for OTC medication or Pharmacy First treatment. It is our professional duty to send you to the correct Healthcare professional. I can only apologise that you feel I was laughing. I would like to reassure you that this was not the case. As I recall, your visit was on the 19th July. This was the day that the whole of our local NHS primary care services were impacted by the Crowd strike outage. This was a highly febrile and stressful situation which lasted for at least 3 days.

  4. Review titled Unsatisfactory

Today I called into Tesco Pharmacy Glossop for Covid Tests which are free to immunesuppresants and people with other life threating problems. I explained I was immune suppressant and gave them my diagnosis of Rheumatoid Arthritis with related lung decease. I was told my condition was not on the list so I couldn't have them. I did say they had given them to me before. I just paid for them and left but did say her list needs updating. When I got home I looked on the NHS website and Tesco Pharmacy are on their list were I can collect them, but unfortunately they weren't having my explanation. It is important to me with my condition that I can get a covid test kit as I have just had a bout of covid and I needed to test if I was still infectious.

  5. Review titled Rubbish Service

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Lorraine - Posted on 07 May 2024

Tesco Pharmacy Dudley. They had my prescription for over a week and when I went to collect they had not put it up saying they no longer do this until the customer arrives, causing me to wait for 30 minutes. Then they did not have over half my prescription causing me to be without insulin and other vital medicines. They told me I needed to go else where to find them. Absolutely shocking service with a rude assistant. Steer clear of this pharmacy.

  6. Review titled Pharmacist 40 minutes late

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Pharmacist 40 min late - Posted on 04 May 2024

Saturday 4 May, I visited Tesco Pharmacy at Clough Street, Stoke-on-Trent. At 8am the pharmacist had not arrived and I had to wait 40 minutes until he showed up before I was able to collect pain medication for my elderly mother. I received no apology whatsoever and the assistant who was there at 8am seemed to be annoyed at me as if I was the problem.

  7. Review titled Make you wait ages

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Jake - Posted on 29 May 2024

I waited in a small queue to be served but then the staff still took 20-30 minutes to serve me even though they had many staff behind the till. They then told me to come back in half an hour (this happens every time). I said that I would come back the next day as it was 7:30pm. When I came back there was another small queue that took ages to serve I was then told that my prescription was out of stock this was after I had had my prescription changed by the pharmacist halving my pills which causes me severe problems, they had not told me or my doctor that this would be changed. The staff are generally rude and do not try and help.

  8. Review titled So slow

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Chris - Posted on 30 April 2024

I left an emailed prescription for an hour and a half, as the sign in the counter said it will take an hour, and then went to collect the prescription. Only to wait 20 minutes in the queue to be told it will be another hour. Why so slow? There are no houses around Tesco’s so everyone there has had to travel. I also get up at 4 every morning for work so didn’t want to return home to turn back out later eating into my sleep. I’m in pain so I need my pain medication. Not fobbed off like it doesn’t matter. If it’s longer than an hour, nearly 3 in this case, then change the sign. What a waste of time. I’m glad I don’t run my business like this. It would go under in a heart beat. Not good enough.

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Sara - Posted on 10 April 2024

I've called the store nearly 10 times today. They have text me to say items are not available from the supplier. Why not ring me instead. I also witnessed a man get refused and kicked out of the pharmacy for having a joke with the team there. Why on earth don't you answer the phone!!!! I'm disabled without a car. I can't just keep coming in.

  10. Review titled Massively overcharged for private prescription

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 12 April 2024

Awful experience at Tesco Pharmacy. Firstly they lost our private prescription. They knew they had received it as patient medical record had been created but they lost physical prescription. When we initially handed in the private prescription they advised that they could not tell us cost of how much it would cost until it was received. Therefore we we were locked into paying without knowing final charge. When we finally dealt with issue of them losing original prescription, they charged £195 for 42 x 2mg of melatonin! This is a massive mark up on base cost of the drug. Just to note that this prescription is also for a child! Will never use them again.
