Dear Odutayo You're absolutely right—receptionists play a crucial role as the first point of contact in any institution. Their attitude can significantly impact the overall experience for patients and visitors. It's important for them to approach their role with empathy and a positive demeanor. It's unfortunate to hear that your experience with the second receptionist wasn't as positive. Everyone deserves to be treated with kindness and respect, especially in a healthcare setting. I sincerely apologise for the bad experience you had. Sharing your feedback with the management might help address this issue and improve the service for future visitors. Please kindly email us on greenbrook.bboffice@nhs.net, so I can investigate further. Many thanks Management

Went to the Beacon this morning . Had never been there before and needed advice and treatment for a burn on my foot. From the point of entry until leaving I was impressed by all the members of staff I saw. They provided excellent support and were able to adequatley assist with my injury providing everything that I needed to put my mind at rest and hopefully put me on the road to recovery answering any questions that I asked.

  3. Review titled Chaotic reception area, rude reception staff

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 18 October 2024

I was asked for visit by 111. I was triaged within 30 mins but not seen for 3 hrs. At no point was I told the waiting times. Patients were frustrated and children with head injuries not seen quickly. Some had bleeding head wounds and visible facial swelling. There was no feedback to patients who therefore become angry and anxious. The reception staff had a change over while I was there and again, no effort was made to manage or apologise to the patients waiting to be seen. It is as if the patients do not exist and are an inconvenience. The contrast with the Dr, when seen, was very obvious. The Dr was kind, courteous and compassionate. The reception staff rude arrogant and unprofessional.

I'm really sorry to hear about your experience. It sounds like the lack of communication and long wait times were very frustrating, especially given the urgency of some patients' conditions. It's important for patients to feel acknowledged and informed, and it seems like this was lacking during your visit. Your feedback about the contrast between the reception staff and the doctor is significant. While it's great to hear that the doctor was kind and compassionate, the unprofessional behaviour of the reception staff is concerning. Sharing your experience with the management of the centre could help us address these issues and improve the service for future patients. Please kindly email us on greenbrook.bboffice@nhs.net. Many thanks Management

  4. Review titled Very unpleasant experience with rude staff

Rated 1 star out of 5

Went to centre with a friend 2 reception staff on 1 of the reception staff was extremely rude to patients, I understand that it is frustrating when the same question is asked all the time but the way she spoke to people was disgusting I work in a extremely busy doctors surgery and we would never talk to people like that no matter how stressed or busy we are she should not be dealing with the public

  5. Review titled Faster and more efficient than local hospital

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 17 September 2024

I've always had positive experiences and always prefer to visit the Beacon for urgent care issues, than my local hospital. I visited this week during the day with my grandmother, in order for her injured/swollen finger to be attended to. The receptionist was pleasant and we were seen pretty quickly by the triage nurse (within 20mins). The triage nurse was also friendly and asked key questions in order to determine the criticality of the injury. We then saw the medical professional within 1.5 hours of arrival and again it was a pleasant and friendly experience, although the clinic was by that point becoming very busy and they appeared short staffed. My grandmother's injury was quickly assessed and a prescription raised - all very thorough and all of my queries were answered. I'll always recommend this clinic, as this will always be the preference to spend a few short hours vs half a day in A&E

  6. Review titled Good service

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 12 September 2024

I am writing as I am surprised at all the negative views posted of this service. I think it is great that we have somewhere to be seen when there are no GP appointments, but we do not have to travel to A&E and wait for many hours. The receptionists were pleasant and polite, the triage nurse, who I saw quickly, was friendly and effcient. I had to wait 2 hours, which is tedious, but to be expected. When I was seen, the doctor was thorough and polite, prescribing medication and advising me to go to A&E if no better after 48 hours. I have been previously and had a similar experience.

  7. Review titled Rude and patronising doctor

Rated 3 stars out of 5

by Mother - Posted on 04 September 2024

I rushed my 8 week old baby in after her 8 week jabs as she had screamed, inconsolably cried and was clearly in abdominal pain that couldn't be soothed 5 hours after the vaccines. As per the guidelines, it states that if these symptoms occur you should get to a doctor urgently as their is a small risk of blocked bowel from rotavirus vaccine and she was clearly struggling. The lady on triage was kind and said always trust instincts. We waited for 4 hours to be seen and by the third hour baby calmed and finally had been to the toilet which lowered my concern. I highlighted this to triage who said you are next so may aswell be seen as you've waited. Better to be safe. I then saw the patronising doctor who didn't even look at my baby who nodded her head as if to say "and, what do you expect?" Whilst I tried to hurriedly explain why I was there. She said I saw you feed and change her. There's nothing wrong with her, she's fine" in such a patronising way. I explained that I was less concerned since feeding and changing her as she's now been to the toilet and that I was happy to go home but was told to wait and she said "yeh we'll they have to book everyone in". This woman made me feel small and stupid on an already stressful day. I was following guidelines and am a mother of 2 who is not paranoid and I don't appreciate being made to feel it especially by somebody who should know the guidelines and not expect us to have a doctors knowledge. Her irritation was obvious and she should have far better social skills. Don't lose the ability to have empathy during your practice. Especially for mothers of babies. This tone and mindset is unacceptable and you should never be complacent. She stood infront of me and didn't even examine my baby or allow me to sit to explain we were in and out and feeling small in less than 2 minutes after a four hour wait. She needs to do better. I hope that in future doctors keep in mind a) their own guidelines and advice of what to do in specific circumstances and b) to be compassionate to patients. Particularly mothers of small babies. We are not doctors we are parents and I I feel there could be something wrong I will always be safe than sorry everytime. Encourage mothers to trust their instincts- don't patronise or dismiss.

I'm truly sorry to hear about your distressing experience. It's understandable that you were very concerned about your baby, especially given the guidelines and the symptoms she was showing. It's good to hear that the triage nurse was supportive and encouraged you to trust your instincts. However, it's disappointing that the doctor you saw did not provide the empathy and understanding you needed during such a stressful time. Your feelings of being patronised and dismissed are valid, and it's important for healthcare professionals to remember the impact of their words and actions, especially when dealing with worried parents. I appreciate your feedback and will ensure it is shared with the team to improve our service. Compassion and clear communication are crucial, and we will work on reinforcing these values. Please don't hesitate to seek medical attention in the future if you have concerns about your child's health. Your instincts as a parent are important, and you should always feel supported when seeking care. Thank you for bringing this to our attention, and I hope your future experiences are much more positive. Thank you Management

  8. Review titled Don't waste your time

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 12 August 2024

Awful experience. Given appointment with via 111 but then told it's only an arrival time by receptionist. Although seen quickly, the triage nurse was rude and made me feel like she didn't care about why I was there. She didn't appear interested and spoke to me as if I was wasting her time. I would never bother with this place again.

  9. Review titled Bad experience with my daughter

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 17 August 2024

Came as 111 told us to come for appointment met by really rude receptionist who told us to go to the surgery but then was told by them to come back here hense her now not getting her time on time as moving in ques. Finally seen by the triage nurse after telling her she had chest pains and her asthma was hurting her told her to sit and wait. We have been over 2hrs no help and her pain worse. Shes a severe asthmatic if known would have gone to A&E but 111 dr told her to come here as nearer and would get seen asap. Not good service know nhs under pressure but sitting waiting people with minor minor problems I’ve spoken to them being seen first. She has bad asthma low oxygen levels and chest pains not ok.

  10. Review titled Disgusting/frightening experience!

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Christina Chaproniere - Posted on 02 August 2024

Just returned home after being told by 111 to attend the Beckenham Beacon Urgent Care Centre urgently! I’ve had gastric flu for 5 days and failing fast! I have adrenal failure and realised I needed urgent treatment I.e a 100mg of hydrocortisone! Despite taking double my usual dose of hydrocortisone. I rang 111 to ask best place to go for an emergency injection. They assured me a doctor would see me urgently at 4pm? I arrived at Beckenham Beacon 3.30 and was told they couldn’t book me in as my appointment wasn’t until 4.00pm. At 4pm she booked me in told me to take a seat and wait to see the triage nurse, waited again and triage nurse said wait in waiting room when I ask how long, first I was told there were 8 in front of me i then said I needed to go home and try taking some hydrocortisone orally! I was then told there was now 12 in front of me! If I go into fatal adrenal crisis I hold Beckenham Beacon Care Centre responsible!
