  1. Review titled Great service

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Suzanna Sparrow - Posted on 19 June 2023

My optician sent me to Birmingham Eye center, I arrived at 8.30 and expected a very long wait. Once registered, I was triaged, then I saw the Dr who explained everything that was being done, I  was then sent for a scan & the staff doing the scans were very pleasant and again explained what was happening.  Then I had to wait to see Dr. again which was only about 10 mins, the Dr explained what they were looking for on the scan & reassured me that I had nothing to worry about, I came out at 11.25, and I was only there for 3 hours. I was very impressed by the service I received.

  2. Review titled Security guards

Rated 2 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 20 May 2023

Visited the A&E at 8 am. Was unaware it was not open until 9am as Saturday, assumed the usual 8.30 am. Went around the side entrance and found some open doors Sat on a chair near A&E counter. Was actually feeling quite ill. Later a female employee approached me and requested I go outside. I replied it was cold and I felt ill.. Several people also came in and queued. One couple got me a chair to sit on in the queue which had formed and later 3 security guards stood in front of me in a very bullying manner. One was particularly loud, rude and nasty. I explained I was feeling ill. He just wasn't interested and not really listening but repeating himself and hovering over me in a bullying manner. The general public deserve respect and be put at ease.Wearing a uniform does not allow employees to behave in an unnecessarily bullying manner. I am a senior citizen and have never experienced such nasty behaviour by security staff ever..There was no sympathy that I was feeling unwell just a continuation of quoting the rules in a loud and threatening manner In fact one of the general public had previously asked if I wanted a drink of water. Why were the side doors open and why don't the employees have keys? What a shambles! I did not go outside but sat further back as I was still feeling ill near the entrance doors and the general public were moved outside. Should I experience similar treatment again at Midland Eye Hospital I will not hesitate to take the matter much further. These security guards need appropriate training to deal with the general public. It was almost as though I was in a third world country. It has been difficult to type this report as I am still not well.

  4. Review titled No communication, no help, no appointment

Rated 2 stars out of 5

by KJW - Posted on 05 February 2023

I’ve spent hours trying to speak to someone at BMEC about an urgent Vitrectomy referral, made 3 months ago. No-one answers the phones. You get passed from department to department. My eyesight is deteriorating, and there’s been no communication. There’s a 6 month window for success, and I’m 3 months into that. If I lose my eyesight, I lose my livelihood.

  5. Review titled Incredible service!

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Nick Spooner - Posted on 03 April 2023

In January I popped into the Eye Centre with an issue I had with my left eye. In a matter of hours, I was diagnosed (detaching retina), operated on and sent home and treated by all members of staff with professionalism, efficiency and a smile. Over the following three months I would be back at the Eye Centre for checkups and each time, everyone was so helpful. I cannot praise the staff highly enough. Thank you so much for fixing me!

  6. Review titled Brilliant treatment by all staff

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Janet Cashmore - Posted on 28 October 2022

I attended the eye hospital and was treated by all staff from reception, nurses and consultant. They were all profession extremely kind and thanks to them I had a foreign body removed from my eye even though I had no idea that this was causing my discomfort. A big thank you to all involved.

  7. Review titled Excellent treatment

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Douglas - Posted on 12 October 2022

I was sent by my GP for a slight condition which may have indicated a more serious problem developing. My heart sank at the “4+ hour wait” sign. But in fact I was seen within the hour. Reception were friendly, the nurse competent and the doctor was magnificent. The examination was efficient, each stage explained and at the end of the consultation a very clear description of my condition was given. I can’t praise the staff highly enough.

  8. Review titled Great practice

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Ambreen Quadri - Posted on 27 October 2022

Took my father for his appointment ..however when his name was called ..it was incorrectly pronounced . Luckily I took a guess it could be him. Could you perhaps instead of shouting out names have the flash up on a screen . Nobody's fault ..names can be awkward . Others could not hear names as some names were called out by different professionals at same time . This causes prolonged waiting times .

  9. Review titled A credit to the NHS

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Matthew Thompson - Posted on 29 October 2022

From my initial contact with the A&E eye department, so my surgery and post op recovery 2 days later, my experience with all teams and individuals who I met during my time here have been exceptional. The level of care Ive received has been brilliant and I can't sing the various teams praises high enough. And for all those individuals who gripe about having to maybe wait a few hours, it's worth remembering that you're receiving world class care for free. The individuals who you meet choose to deliver your care for less than they could earn through private care, it's worth while remembering that when you're opening bad mouthing services and members of staff. Maybe take your negatively home and let the staff and patients who appreciate the high level of care they receive to focus on their health, rather than having to deal with your bad vibes. Finally a shout out to my pre/post op teams, the surgical and consultants who took the time out to assess me and of course my anaesthetist who went out of his way to alleviate any fears or nerves I had prior to delivering a painfree local anaesthetic.

  10. Review titled Good in parts

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 12 September 2022

I was referred to a&e at bmec from the a&e. at the q.e. hospital birmingham. the staff I saw both dr. & nurses were excellent. the dr I saw that sunday was very thorough and said he would contact me the following friday, but didn't. In trying to contact the hospital to speak to the secretaries regarding the follow-up, in the morning I reached no. 6 and was cut off. later I got as far as no. 1, held that position for 40 minutes, then a recorded message said there was no one to take my call "good bye" at 3pm. I spent most of the day trying to get through to someone only to be sent around in circles. how on earth are the public allowed to speak to anyone?? most frustrating
