  1. Review titled Inadequate support

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 01 July 2023

I have experienced frustration and lack of support with camhs. They just like to blame the parents. Infact they have given me mental health problems. They refuse to give a diagnosis where as if one was given, help could be put in place. They shouldnt be allowed to continue as a service. They have upset us. They just do not understand how much. I'm lost for words really. They have completely wasted our time with meetings. They have written unacceptable letters to other services and I suffered a breakdown because of this. They just seem to be bothered about getting my child into school and not seeing the anxiety behind it all. They don't listen.

  2. Review titled Awful mental health service

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 10 July 2023

I have been coming to camhs for a few years and I have had not one good experience I have seen multiple staff and all have been unhelpful and unprofessional. All the staff in the camhs I go to are all unbothered and seem uninterested in helping anyone. Even the reception staff were always very unwelcoming and cold on my arrival. Multiple staff told me they would call my school to make a plan to set up support at school for me and no one ever did so I was forced to continue to struggle. Even after I was hospitalised nobody took any interest into putting any regular support in place for me. Not to mention to outrageously long time you have to wait to get an appointment just to hear that it’s been cancelled or pushed back to another day. You are better off paying for private mental health services than wasting your time here. I strongly urge you to seek some proper support somewhere else for your children. There needs to be a change and someone needs to make it. Judging by the amount of 1 and 2 star reviews it’s not just me with bad experiences with camhs. camhs need to do better with their mental health support and realise this is a very serious and dangerous problem, vulnerable adolescents with mental problems having no access to support.

  3. Review titled Diabolical

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 19 July 2023

At a time of stress when you need help this service is appalling, not fit for purpose and seriously failing Cambridge’s young people and their families. Mental health services need a very serious overhaul. What should be a simple process, is incompetent and disjointed and lacking any compassion or sense of urgency.

  4. Review titled poor

I’ve now been at camhs for over a year. my experience was awful i have struggled with my mental health since i was around 13 i am now 17 almost 18, i have gone through a eating disorder and the support i had was awful the only good part was the dietician and my old doctor, i was given new camhs works and doctors around 4 months ago and they have been extreamly rude and invalidating, gone through loads of assessments for diagnoses ect to then to change mind last min and not diagnose me this left me confused, angry and upset, i have been so let down i could even say they actually made it worse the amount of invaliding. if you can afford i would 100% go private for help because camhs are usless all they do is make you feel worse than you did. i am extremely lost for words and am extremely upset with all the things my mental health has caused me to miss out. main issue is camhs workers aren’t good with eating disorders they have no clue what’s going on. it’s unfair on us and them. i am now struggling mentally more than i ever have and the medication i’ve been given doesn’t work and myself and my mum have mentioned this a lot and it’s been dismissed every time as has everything else my mums concerned about.

Complete shambles. No one knows what the other is doing they just fob you off with a promise to call back or look into it !! Last visit was asked to explain why I was there !! Surely they should have some notes. Waste of time and complete let down. A year on and still useless.

  6. Review titled Oxfordshire camhs is wholly inadequate

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Caroline Midgley - Posted on 31 March 2023

My daughter has been in and out of treatment with Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service in Oxford since she was 14. She is now 18. The experience has been so bad that if I had known at the outset how poor the service was, I would have engaged private psychiatric services. The errors and problems are too numerous to list. Examples include, only online meetings where the clinician's understanding of English was so poor that her reports have numerous factual inaccuracies. Multiple conflicting diagnoses that have been given from different clinicians ranging from a personality disorder to attention deficit hyperactivity disorder to anxiety and depression. Having to wait months for therapy despite daughter self harming and presenting at A&E with suicidal ideation. Medicine being promised then prescriptions not being sent. Repeatedly having to chase prescriptions. Meetings with clinicians where notes have clearly not been read and previous diagnoses disputed. Finally she's been dropped by Camhs, into the care of her GP, despite being far from being able to function. Camhs is not fit for purpose and there should be a government enquiry into it.

  7. Review titled Lack of urgent care

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 09 July 2023

I finally acknowledged my struggles and caved in to seek camhs for the third time, after having 2 past tries in my younger years. I was deemed as an urgent patient and told I was going to seek help due to my struggles and possible diagnosis and medication that I was told would be possible. The man I spoke to was lovely when I had my appointment and clarified that I was going to be spoke about with his ‘team’. They delayed my ‘urgent’ appointment and I have rung twice and am 6th on a waiting list. I understand the NHS are struggling massively since the pandemic, but teenage mental health is on a decline and so is the support. I am at my wits end and trying to come to terms with such big problems on such a small amount of support, energy, positivity and healthy regular movement and thought. Something needs to be done.

  9. Review titled left me feeling helpless

Rated 2 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 29 December 2022

i’ve experienced mental illness since a young age and finally started talking at 12. after trying to get help private we finally turned to camhs and was told there was a long waiting list and my referal actually got lost in the system. fast forward to 14 after trying with camhs to get help for a while with no reply, i was rushed to hospital due to an od and after treatment and i was “medically fit” i spoke with camhs and was released. i’d heard from everyone i’d ever spoke to and all over social media how bad camhs was and was scared for my life when i knew i had to meet with them. the person i spoke with was nice, but the camhs side of her wasnt. a child ending up in hospital mainly as a cry for help and getting released with nothing but more trauma from before, then calling the crisis team and telling them that and then being told some useless thing to help cope with the fact i was unable to keep myslef alive much longer. camhs are thé most useless people i’ve ever spoke with. waiting list after waiting list and eventually giving the most basic useless information to mentally ill teenagers who are feeling hopeless already. we’re dying and we need help, and there’s no one who can do that for us because the system is terrible and kids are loosing their lives by the day. this needs to change.

  10. Review titled No support for children or carers

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 15 March 2023

I brought my daughter to our local A&E because she did not wish to live anymore. I could not speak with her. This is due to 2 + years of waiting for neurodevelopmental conditions assessment which has never been picked up by professionals in school due her being compliant (masking) . We have managed since she began communicating. She did not understand toileting. She needed speech therapy. She isn’t too bad with these now but she cannot regulate her emotions. This plus teen hormones and bullying from other kids has now affected her mental health and myself and the rest of our home is experiencing nothing but hell on earth . I was told by GP they couldn’t help at all. School and camhs deal with it. Took her to A&E we were told nobody there to deal with the situation. Self referral to camhs and over 1 month later my daughter had an assessment (2nd time- first time last year she wasn’t bad enough) . Forward another month on and still no outcome from assessment. Daughter now harming herself and behaviour lot worse. Phoned up rude lady on phone telling me to stop talking because she isn’t trained . Asked for someone to call who can help. Was really nice and expressed importance of the circumstances. No one called. It’s a good job I am a patient parent but this is now affected my mental health because I don’t feel strong anymore . What is wrong with the world?
