  1. Review titled Not enough capacity for MK

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Stuart - Posted on 11 April 2023

It is absolutely dire, understaffed and not patient focused. To take out of hours from a city the size of MK it must be bigger and better staffed. Wait times of almost 6 hours are unacceptable and it honestly felt like an underdeveloped country waiting room rather than a first world country. I had already been to a pharmacist and they had told us to come to urgent care so I had done my due diligence rather than just turning up. The centre is so understaffed that reception staff are curt to the point of rudeness. I can fully understand why they would be as the end user would be extremely frustrated. Lastly, there is not sufficient parking for the service. This needs an urgent review to examine whether it meets the needs of patients in Milton Keynes because right now it isn’t even close.

  2. Review titled Lack of care and empathy

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 28 April 2023

After calling 111 due to experiencing bleeding in early pregnancy. I was greeted with at first a two hour wait. After 3 hours checked with the receptionist to be told it’s a sit and wait service despite the severity of the situation. I appreciate the stretches in the NHS but, in maternity any bleeding you need to be seen immediately. There was no care, or sympathy for the situation. The urgent care need to change the way they do things and prioritise cases better.

  5. Review titled Ridiculous waiting times!!

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 06 February 2023

My wife took our 4 month old daughter in to the urgent care centre following referral from 111 around 9pm and wasn’t home until close to 4am the next day due to how bad the waiting times are. The advertised wait time was around 5 hours and she was initially triaged within about an hour and then not seen by a doctor until around 3am. I was always under the impression that children were prioritised but clearly not at this centre and my wife even said that several people came after her and were seen before her. She did question the reception staff several times (as did other patients regarding their own lengthy wait times), but progress continued to be very slow. I think it’s wrong that anyone should have to wait close to 6 hours to be seen by a doctor and I think it’s disgusting that a baby or child should be made to wait that long. This place has always had ridiculous waiting times and you get the impression they just don’t care or can’t be bothered to address it despite it being one of the main complaints. It can’t take that long to see patients - what are they doing between seeing patients? Why is there such a wait between patients sometimes? Surely it could be ran more efficiently than it is and a much better service could be provided with the right people and levels of effort. I get that the nhs is strained but that’s not going to change anytime soon and wait times here have been this ridiculous for as long as I can remember so it isn’t just as a result of covid that it’s got worse. Something needs to change here but I’m sure nothing will

Thank you for your feedback regarding your recent experience of visiting our service. We do endeavour to make waiting times as short for our patients as we are able and in doing so try whenever possible to prioritise children where we can. We are, however, a service that accepts patients from different sources and of all ages, the 111 service, other healthcare professionals and patients that walk-in as well as accommodating different clinics within our building. These patients all have varying degrees of need; some will need our GPs to go to their homes whilst some will need to be seen ahead of patients that have been waiting due to their clinical need. This does, unfortunately, mean that children will sometimes have to wait longer than we would like. We are sorry that, on this occasion, your waiting time with your child was longer than we would have hoped for, we welcome all comments so that we can continue to strive to improve the service we deliver. Kind regards MKUCS

  6. Review titled Unacceptable waiting time and patients not wearing masks

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Bloodknot - Posted on 20 February 2023

19 02 2023 I was recommended by 111 to take my 75 year old wife who was feeling very unwell to the centre suffering with very erratic blood pressure and heart rhythm. On arrival, the notice on the entrance door advised that the wearing of masks was mandatory, which we complied with. There was no one on reception initially and standing was difficult for my wife. Eventually we were called forward to be informed that there was a 5 hour wait. There is no way, with my wife feeling as poorly as she was that she could have endured that ordeal. She needed to be laying down. My observations are :- The wait time was totally unacceptable. The staff’s management of the crowded waiting area was totally inadequate in that the vast majority of patients and there carers were not wearing masks. On leaving the building it was noticed that the surrounding paving was littered with empty cans and discarded masks. Probably because the only waste bin was rammed full of rubbish. On reflection our visit was a total waste of time and, in hindsight, we should probably have gone to A & E. I would not recommend this facility to anyone.

  7. Review titled Very Well Diagnosed and Treated

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by John Sullivan - Posted on 16 January 2023

The published wait times were 4 hours, I arrived at 15:30 and was out by 18:30. During that time I had my blood pressure and temperature taken twice and was triaged and requested to provide a urine sample. The reception stage was very pleasant including the blood pressure and temperature test. The triage took place just over an hour after I arrived and I felt that it was very thorough. My interview with the doctor was also very thorough and I was prescribed 2 lots of medication. All in all considering how ill I was feeling I don't think anything could have been improved.

  8. Review titled Miserable experience

Rated 2 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 03 February 2023

The Reception team seemed weary of dealing with patients and one was positively irritated. The doctor was pleasant but prescribed the wrong antibiotic for my kidney infection despite me passing on what I had been told by a previous Specialist. I had to go to my own GP today who said the antibiotic I’d been given was completely useless and has replaced it. Long wait despite there being few patients.

  9. Review titled Unacceptable weight times

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 17 December 2022

Weight times are 6-7 hrs, totally unacceptable. This is the sort of service you would expect from a third world country. Issues are 111 constantly referring people, GP surgeries referring people.. Poorly managed insufficient staff..

  10. Review titled Very poor

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Samantha - Posted on 28 December 2022

I had an awful experience up at the walk in centre with my son who was very poorly. It took over and hour to get some medication for my son whose temperature was 40.1. When I went to ask where his medicine was the lady behind the desk approached me with “what” I’m sorry but I would never speak to someone like that let alone a parent whose was worried about her son and the fact her son was shivering and limp. The ladies behind that desk give a bad name for the walk in service. It needs to addressed very quickly. they have the audacity to have a sign up with they don’t tolerate rudeness or threatening behaviour maybe they should look up rudeness. Not happy one bit with urgent care centre.
