    I’ve had cataract operations on both eyes. The second was a success but the first has caused problems that led me to seek a second opinion from a consultant at Brighton Eye Hospital. His diagnosis was that the first lens was ‘grossly misplaced’. This will not improve and causes my night time vision to become distorted by arcs and halos to the extent that I do not feel safe to drive. My options are to learn to live with it or have further surgery.i shall live with it as I don’t want to run the risk of any further complications. The possibilities listed by the consultant were: blindness, detached retina, an inability to perform the surgery because of scar tissue and damage to my eye due to the need to stretch it more than is usual in normal cataract surgery, as well as needing a lot more anaesthesia. The longer the wait, the higher the likelihood of scar tissue getting in the way and the waiting list is five months. My experience of cataract surgery has been dismal overall and I would suggest to anyone contemplating it to wait as long as possible because although the mechanics might be simple and straightforward, the actuality can be very different.

    I have now had my second cataract operation at SpaMedica Brighton, and my experience was totally satisfactory, with vision clearly restored. Good eyesight is so precious. The surgeon and all the team were so helpful, caring and professional and made me feel at ease at all times, within an ultra clinical environment. I am so grateful, and would highly recommend treatment at this centre.Thanks to all the wonderful staff.

    It was all going well with tremendous rapidity. Had pre op within a few days and booked for surgery following week. First minor problem was not given pre surgery eye drops. When I realised and called their national call centre was told to go and buy some. The specific branded drops I could not obtain and after another phone call ended up driving back to the clinic. After arriving for surgery and waiting a short time all the patients including myself were told that all operations for the day were cancelled. Also we were all told we would be re booked the same week. Things happen so I did not mind. While I waited for my lift other patients were being booked in for the following week. Not hearing anything I called the national phone number that got me no where. I rang again the following day, it is not possible to call the clinic providing the surgery by the way. The cancelled surgery had been due to air-conditioning not operating. Nothing major and easy to rectify. So the promise of surgery the same week was not kept, apparently they could not get a surgical team together. The next date offered was well in January. All the time I was having to call them and there was a lack of empathy in regimented inflexible procedures. The whole thing cost me loss of wages for the time booked off. I lost complete confidence in Spamedica and despite a longer wait have opted to undergo surgery at local hospital

    Had both eyes done for cataracts in 5 to 6 weeks. All went smoothly and was always greeted with a smile. Having great eyesight has completely changed my life Thank you so much Andy Newton

    I just wanted to say how wonderful the experience was for my cataract surgery in September and November 2023. I would recommend SpaMedica Brighton to family and friends. All the staff I encountered were extremely helpful and put me at ease.

    Very Friendly, Caring, Informative and Meticulously Clean. Nothing is too much trouble which puts you at ease all the way through surgery and aftercare. I can honestly say I would definately recommend this particular eye hospital.
