Although extremely nervous I was put at ease by the friendly , efficient and professional approach by all the staff I came into contact with. I would not hesitate in recommending SpaMedica as “the place to go”. I found the experience a lot less stressful than going to the dentist!

From the moment I walked into the practice I felt comfortable and secure. The staff were amazingly friendly and professional at all times. There was a slight variance in my measurements at assessment stage. A different approach to rectify or confirm differences, taken. At the operation stage, one is obviously nervous. At each stage the staff explained what was to happen, Eventually, you meet the surgeon for direct dialogue. This was a very encouraging element. During the course of the operation, which was very quick. I had no sense of pain or discomfort. The after surgery information is clear and the cheerful support remains identical. Well done to everyone at Spa Medica, you are a credit.

I was a pleasure to meet all these great people who put me at ease straight away. Just friendly faces everywhere. My questions answered and the operation was so fast and pain free. Would definitely recommend to anyone who needs to get this procedure done.

Spamedica Derby “You can have your nhs cataract surgery in a hospital or at Spamedica” my Vision Express optician told me, “Spamedica will be quicker”. What surprised me was just how much quicker, only a matter of weeks. It’s nhs paid for, so I wasn’t expecting anything too plush. Waiting areas are functional and clean, there are no armchairs and not a lot of space, just enough space for the flow of patients, nothing more than necessary but enough, and they do welcome you in and offer you a cup of tea or a drink and will help with calling a taxi home or your own driver if need be. The flow of patients from the small central waiting-reception area in and out of the various consulting and measuring speciality rooms is very much organised for Spamedica’s efficiency but I see that as a good thing, your time is sensibly not the top priority. The surgery itself takes less time than an oap haircut but expect five or six visits each of two hours for pre-op measurements, surgery, check-up, surgery, check-up, most of which is spent waiting. Spamedica appear to be well equipped with the latest and the best of eye measuring machines. I’m not a people person but all the staff from reception to surgeon were helpful polite considerate and most importantly very competent while setting about their respective areas of work. Measurements for the lens implant were spot on and much of this will come down to the machines. You don’t get a choice of surgeon for the first eye but you can ask for the same surgeon for your second eye. My designated surgeon had carried out some 14,000 cataract operations with an excellent record so naturally I asked for him for my second eye. I think this is good for the surgeon’s job satisfaction too. Since it’s nhs paid for, you don’t get a choice of lens type, monofocal, multifocal, trifocal, toric etc, the only lens offered is the monofocal, if you want ‘premium’ you have to go private. So I looked around at these options. It turns out this restriction is not a disadvantage at all, the so called premium lenses come with a list of compromises which make them unsuitable for engineers, hobbyists or pilots who value clarity of vision above convenience. And if you have any significant residual astigmatism or the calculation is a little out, you will need glasses anyway to read comfortably or drive safely. The option Spamedica do offer is an important one, what refractive target you prefer, distance, pc screen or reading. I chose to remain short sighted at minus 2.25 because in reality most of my day is spent at a pc, reading or making things, eating or sitting around a table, checking a watch or smartphone. You can always put on some distance glasses for driving or watching television. Overall, an excellent experience and an excellent result from SpaMedica.

Mum had her pre op on Tues 23/5 + her op on Friday 26th. Talk about great service. Everyone at the clinic was extremely welcoming, helpful + kind, non clinical staff + clinical. Particularly sensitive + kind to Mum who has Altzheimers disease, including her in all discussions, whilst tactfully referring any questions to me as her carer. We were both accommodated really well. From begining to end, it was a most impressive, efficiently run service, can't praise or thank them enough. Thank you

On Monday 22nd May 2023, I attended an appointment at Derby SpaMedica for the assessment of my double vision in my right eye. I was seen by four qualified people and kept informed at every stage. I was finally told that I would be eligible for cataract surgery if I wished but that there were some risks involved; in my case they were very low. I decided to accept their offer of surgery. I signed an acceptance form and handed this to the receptionist who arranged for my surgery on Thursday 25th May 2023. I arrived on time, had the required drops inserted and awaited my turn. The surgeon came and spoke to me and I felt reassured. I went in for the operation which was a strange experience but not painful at all. The operation lasted no more than 15 minutes and I was then offered a drink and biscuits. After a few minutes I was seen by another person who gave me some drops and information on Do’s and Don’ts. I was then taken back to the reception where they offered to telephone my wife to come and collect me. The whole process on both Monday and Thursday was efficient and extremely professional and my double-vision has been eliminated. This has made a big impact on my life. Thank you all so much SpaMedica Derby. I seriously can't thank you enough.

I came to have cataract surgery today. The staff were amazing. From the moment I checked in I felt comfortable and at ease. All of the staff were very welcoming and kind. They explained exactly what was going to happen with the procedure. Following the procedure I was offered drinks and biscuits, I was very well cared for. I would strongly recommend SpaMedica.
