Both my visits to SpaMedica Exeter were very good. You have a card route that tells you exactly what is happening. The surgery was explained in the same way. I had a cataract removed. My surgeon was excellent an explained everything that he was doing which helped make the experience less scary. The information I was given for aftercare was very good and SpaMedica's response was always very quick and informative.

After having had my right cataract removed with some minor problems postop I then had my left cataract extracted a couple of months later. All of the administrative and clinical staff at spa. Medica were superb, but unfortunately the surgery was very difficult for me. There was a delay in the proceedings, and by the time I was being operated on the anaesthetic had started to wear off and I felt that I was handled very roughly by the person doing the surgery, this resulted in a blackeye and my eye, bleeding and lots of problems to my cornea and retina which required seven drops daily for one month and then another month or four drops daily to remedy the problem . I cannot quite remember the problem, but I think there was ulceration and blistering in the eye, that may not be correct, but it was something along those lines that caused me to have very poor vision and discomfort for a significant period of time which resulted in several follow-up visits to see the optometrist who was really kind and understanding and did everything she could to help, as I said the staff in the clinic are fantastic, but the surgery was difficult and resulted in quite significant problems which caused me to feel upset and a little traumatised. I expected the surgery on the second eye to be as easy and comfortable as the first and this was something of a shock when I realised that it was a whole completely different scenario. Pain and anxiety during the procedure, followed by long-term complications with pain and poor vision, resulting in my loss of confidence and distress. Thankfully the staff at spa Medica were consistently kind and pleasant.

I was very nervous about the procedure, but from the first appointment the staff were all extremely kind, polite and thoughtful. Everything was very clearly explained, the literature was very helpful and I felt very supported. On the day of the procedure I was informed about everything that was going to happen and after a short wait was taken through the various checks and pre-op medication (drops). When I was taken into the theatre my nervousness was clearly noticed by the nurse who stayed next to me and held my hand, and kept me calm. The surgeon explained what he was doing and was very calming. After 10 minutes it was all over, totally pain-free, and very calm, and as one cannot see anything that is going on, it is just staring at a bright light for a few minutes!

Highly professional unit from the porter to the surgeon,made to feel totally at ease and no long waits for surgery if only the nhs was a fraction as efficient as this

From entering reception and being welcomed by the cheery staff, it instantly dissolved any nerves one might be having. Everything was explained each step of the way but with plenty of space to ask questions if you needed to. A lot of thought has been put into how to help you to be as relaxed as possible before the op, which was then performed without any fuss. A reassuring experience. Thank you.

From assessment to procedure I was made to feel comfortable, kept informed and relaxed. Everyone from the transport drivers to the surgeon couldn’t have been more helpful

The whole process was well organised, efficient and smooth. All staff were kind and considerate, taking time to answer questions and put me at ease. The actual procedure was quick and pain free.
