Review titled Appointment times
Rated 3 stars out of 5
by Claire Staines - Posted on 20 November 2024
I was contacted because my blood test results are out of range, and to arrange an appointment with my GP to discuss. I was given an appointment for 16 days later, and was told this is the earliest appointment available. This is far too long to have to wait. It is clearly noted on my records thar I suffer from anxiety so the next 2 weeks for me are going to be very challenging and will escalate my anxiety levels. I was happy for any doctor to ring me to discuss, so that I didn't have to wait, but was informed that wasn't an option. I feel let down and very disappointed.

Dear Claire, thanks for taking the time to provide feedback on our service. I am sorry that you are feeling anxious about your results. If your GP has requested a routine appointment to discuss results, they are aware of the wait time for their appointments. We do have a two -three week wait for a routine appointment, whether that's by phone or face to face. If its something which needs to be discussed sooner the GP will arrange that. I hope this put your mind at ease- they will call you sooner if they need to. If you are concerned and feel that your health is worsening please put in an appointment request online and a clinician will review this and get back to you. Regards

Review titled Quick response
Rated 4 stars out of 5
by Gary Faulkner - Posted on 30 November 2024
Had an issue that was very quickly addressed. I submitted an online application and received a call within a couple of hours. This was followed up with a call the following morning whereby an appointment was scheduled for the afternoon of the same day. The medical practitioner I saw was very pleasant, personable and professional. I was quickly put at ease and my symptoms discussed, a sample taken and an interim treatment prescribed. My only criticism is that I was told that I would receive a call on the following Monday to discuss the results of the test and any further treatments. This never happened and I was very much left wondering what the next step should be. I eventually accessed my personal NHS app and searched for the test result section which said no further action needed (but acknowledging this statement was really meant for a medical professional to address). This has happened to me previously on a number of occasions where I was told I would be contacted, but never received a follow up call. The last occurrence was for a PSA test where again, I was left to interpret the test details stated within my medical records in the NHS app. That said, this is my only criticism as the general care and service during appointments at the practice is excellent.

I cannot recommend Dr Mair enough, she was very understanding and supportive. I have had a couple of medical issues recently and both times felt supported by Dr Mair.

Review titled Broken System
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 20 November 2024
I have been trying to see my new doctor since my previous doctor retired. I am told that only the doctor can book an appointment post a telephone consultation. Since my previous doctor retired I have not seen, or been told, who my new doctor is. Telephone appointments have been with locums who haven't been particularly helpful. I have long covid, type2 diabetes and possibly, arthritis. During my treatment for long covid it was suggested that new research states that long term use of metformin is likely to have some adverse effects and I should see my doctor to review this. After waiting about 2 weeks for the telephone appointment, the locum was dismissive of this, told me to go for blood tests then see my doctor to discuss. I had the tests done the next day and received a call from the surgery a couple of days later. Although told to see my doctor by the locum, again i had to book a telephone appointment! This was another 2 weeks away and again, only during this call could the doctor book an appointment for me to come in and talk with them. So, at the earliest it will be 5 week wait to see a doctor! I strongly feel this is a case of profit before patient. We are not in the midst of a pandemic so all this system does is add delay and is a poor reflection of what is supposed to be a primary care provider to the public. Pre-pandemic the system worked well so why are we not able to return to it?

Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback on your experience. I am concerned to hear that you are not aware of who your usual GP is as we should have contacted you regarding this. Our practice has a usual GP system for continuity of care for patients, we try where possible to book patients with their usual GP. I am sorry to read that you haven't yet spoken to your own GP. We can look into this for you if you are happy to email us with your personal details at the following address d-icb.beaconcomplaints@nhs.net. Demand for healthcare services is growing this means there is a wait for appointments. We reserve a number of appointments each day for urgent clinical presentations, routine appointments are offered as they are available- unfortunately there is a wait. Most practices across the country have changed the way care is delivered from pre pandemic, this is due to increased demand. We do offer face to face appointments, these are based on clinical need and will be offered to you by your GP or clinician if is felt needed. If you feel you need to be seen face to face you can mention this during the call with the GP. I am sorry that we aren't able to see you sooner. I note that you have spoken to a GP about your medical concerns and a follow up has been arranged for you, if your condition changes and becomes more urgent please contact us. We would like to check that you have an appointment with your usual GP and to inform you directly of who your usual GP is. If you could send us your details via email we can assist with this. Thank you for your feedback and we hope you get what you need from your appointment.

Review titled They didn’t even contact me
Rated 1 star out of 5

I was told I’d get a phone call the same day. No call. I called, then the dr messaged me to ask for pictures. I sent pictures and that was it. Nothing further. Two weeks later still nothing. Yet they wonder why the ED is so over run!?!?! I know exactly why.
