Review titled Dysfunctional appointments system puts people at risk
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 11 July 2023
The practice puts vulnerable patients in danger by making it impossible to get an appointment over the phone or app. If you can't physically get into the practice, or can't get in at very specific times, you will not get an appointment. The prescription system is also highly dysfunctional meaning as a vulnerable person you regularly go days without the medication you need.

Review titled Quick Response and Consultation

Contacted the surgery and arranged a call back for a phone appointment. The doctor called me back as scheduled and was able offer guidance and advice to treat my problem over the phone. I was very impressed with this service.

Review titled Prescription Issuing Difficulties
Rated 1 star out of 5

Not only is it impossible to obtain a doctor’s appointment at the surgery but it seems that delays in obtaining once prescription is now also becoming an issue. We are only allowed to rebook medication 4 days before the reissue date. Which is what I adhere too and diarise in order not to run out of repeat medication. Once recorded it should only take 72 hours to reach the pharmacist. However I have notice that recently that it takes the prescriptions to be signed a week and then it takes another two days for the pharmacy to make up the prescription which in total means a delay of 7 days to obtain once medication. When I called the surgery today to enquire why my repeat prescription has not yet been sent to the pharmacy to process I was advised that it usually takes a week. I disagree, in the past my medication was processed within two days but I noticed over the last year things have gone from bad to worse. I was advised by the reception staff member that they will mark the prescription as urgent and get it sent to the pharmacy today however that it most probably would only be ready by Monday /Tuesday. Therefore a delay of 7 days to receive my repeat prescriptions and running out of my medication didn’t seem to be of concern. To sum up, one can’t get to see a doctor at this practise; one’s medication is delayed so I don’t see the function of this practise anymore.

Review titled Awful appointment system
Rated 2 stars out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 15 May 2023
I was informed that a limited number of appointments are available every day by booking online via the patient access app, and that these appointments would be available by logging in at 7.30am, 9.00am, and 13.30pm. I tried for 3 days at all times and no appointments were available, in fact I called the surgery at 8.10 each day and all the appointments were taken for the day. This online appointment service is a nonsense and I believe is there just to impress / influence the Governing Body. This is a non service and should be removed as it it wasting patients time. Something should be done by the Governing Body.

Review titled No appointments
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Lori Rhys - Posted on 11 April 2023
I had a basal carcinoma removed from my forehead and leg a week ago. I was told by the consultant if I felt I had an infection to see my GP. I took myself this afternoon when I finished work to the surgery to be told no appointments and was unable to get an appointment for a doctor or nurse. All I needed was a prescription for antibiotics. My partner has some for chest infections that may occur with COPD so I’m now having to take his. I’m unable to go first thing in the morning as i am self employed and have to start work early. Training to get through on the phone is a nightmare too!

Review titled Worst patient experience
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 18 April 2023
This GP has gone from worse to worst in last year. It has become norm for them to not offer any appointments for severe patient condition. My daughter is suffering from stomach ache and missed couple of days of school. My wife went today in morning for appointment for my daughter. She was seventh in queue. She explained condition of my daughter but still was not offered any appointments. Although for less severe symptoms others were given. There is clear disparity in process and it seems there are clear favourites when it comes to providing the appointment. The reception staff’s behaviour is clearly not same with everyone and it seems they favour people they know or people with “same appearance and behaviour” . My wife asked for standard operating procedure for booking appointments but she was not given any response. In the meantime my daughter is suffering and we are also getting pushing as parents -

Review titled Great Doctors, awful telephone system
Rated 3 stars out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 29 April 2023
Like everyone else is saying. The telephone system is so so bad. How in 2023 is a telephone system this poor. If anything. Why don't you do callbacks even? I know the NHS are really under pressure which is something I'm aware of and that they're doing their best but in 2023 this is diabolical. I was at a old practice and never had phone line issues like this. This needs to be sorted out. Sorry to be harsh but it's 2023 not 2003. People need all the help that they need. What happens if something bad was to occur to someone and there's no answer or you denying the opportunity for an appointment. Very frustrated. Doctors are so good though. They're helpful, but the telephone lines and people behind them. Not helpful at all.

Review titled Not a Great Practice
Rated 1 star out of 5

I tried my best not to go to the gp for several months after making a complaint last year which was basically ignored in the first instance & when I did finally get a reply it was a very basic generic type reply. I have no confidence in the gp’s anymore & basically the admin & reception staff is so rude that it leaves one feeling anxious to attend & afterwards feeling harassed. It doesn’t help to raise complaints as one is then victimised when attending gain & staff talk to you like you are a nuisance. I became unwell recently & had been self medication with over the counter medication as I have no confidence in the gp’s, sent to trainee gp’s & having to deal with the unsociable, uncooperative & bad-mannered reception staff leaves one upset & distressed afterwards. I returned because I wasn’t getting better even after self medicating & as I have ongoing serious health issues I thought it best to make an appointment. I attended just to find that I wasn’t seeing a trainee gp’s but a nurse. It is just appalling that one cannot see a gp’s. Patients that are feeling unwell or have ongoing health issues just don’t have the energy to deal with the confrontational attitudes that the bhc reception staff give out. When I went up to reception to ask for the toilet coded I shouted out in a loud tone to step back & afford the patient talking around the other corner of the reception desk privacy, this startled me & once again made me question why I am still registered at these gp’s. I then returned to reception desk after being seen by the nurse (who had to take the script to a gp’s to approve anyway) to fill in a prescription request for another item I had forgotten to ask for whilst I was in with the nurse. When I got to the front reception desk I asked for a pen as one of the senior admin staff said loudly “on the table” & walked away. There are no hellos, no pleasant interactions, just orders rudely communicated. No matter how friendly one is to the reception staff stay rude & unfriendly. I had to wait for the person who was using the pen & I must say that the way the staff member spoke to this poor person trying to register him & baby was appalling. I returned home again with no treatment & was advised to wait another few days to see if the problem will resolve itself. I don’t understand the triage system that the surgery is implementing to determine the urgency of the patients needs & or treatment as they do not treat emergent cases, this is what ane is for. General practitioners (gp’s) treat all common medical conditions & refer patients to hospitals & other medical services for urgent & specialist treatment so I do not understand why common medical conditions need a triage system? One only has to read all the reviews over the last year to recognise the failings of bhc yet it seems no one cares or is doing anything about it. On a positive note, the nurses are very good & always helpful at bhc & one of the last few positive points I can raise.
